the reason why i said this is that in the past i have created several backups with different versions of powerarchiver muddled them up and forgot which version i used to create them and they didnt work in a version of powerarchiver. I reinoputted them time consuming but if they had verion info in them i could of checked if it was the latest verion or older version bug and then you could track down that bug more easiley

@Socrates: Don’t give me too much credit. I THOUGHT it could be done . . . but I had to check first to make sure. Still, if david’s suggestion could be easily implemented for email and FTP, it would be a nice tweak. But I don’t know how easy it would be to do. yes, but it takes a while for us to do it while you presented perfectly valid options to the user, so thanks!

@davidsplash: if someone clicks on an archive and opens it up and then clicks a file excluded bt pa pa should then stop its execution and say this is in the list of bab files for security. Bit like a virus program can force certain files not to run if you tell it to. How many times have you found a archive infected but need to access it to get the uninfected files out of it? i have. Anivirus dont work trust me Now I understand!!! I agree! I have NIS 2012, and used NOD32, McAfee and Avast! all of such have ok archive scanning facilties. However, its never gaurenteed. Implementing Pro and Toolbox with Archive Security Handling process would be a good idea!

@davidsplash: could we have a better recovery solution to archives. The zip recovery is not as effective as some of pas rivals. How about using par2 format in program when creating archives to aid recovery of archive I am keen for this to be expanded on! Anything that brings PA up to the level other brands are on is a good thing and its relating to archive’s so its not like were going off track.

i woukld like a feature within powerarchiver that can be turned on to tell the state of the computer and archive, so if im having problems with the archive i can retrace the stepts stae of computer and send that log file to you so we can solve the fault within powerarchiver quickly

I would like powerarchiver to suggest the best possible archive format to archive files in. I dont even mind if it suggests putting all files in different archive formats as long as i get the best possible arche compression. And if this can be done by clicking yes it would be a great help.

PACL is built for this… with PA GUI, you might always some weird problems when calling it from other applications, especially with Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008. PACL needs no installation, requires no system access (registry, etc). For instance, in Win2k8 Server they give very limited access to apps that are started by IIS. So unless you thinker with it, PA 2011 will not work properly when started by IIS server because it is run under limited account that has no registry access at all. On the other hand, PACL will run great… it needs no registry, it needs no system dll’s. Just copy pacomp.exe or paext.exe and it will work great.

@Socrates: I think your proposal would be nice. However, you can currently do the same thing, albeit a bit more roundabout. Ho to the folder with the pbs scripts, choose the one you want, make a copy, and then rename it. You can then edit the new pbs to make the small tweaks you want. I have found that this works with only a couple of extra steps. Cheers for the advice! I did actually know of that method. However, to be honest i forgot about it when describing the request and reasons. But yes, you can easily copy, rename externally without PowerArchiver. However, as you agree with me it would be a nice feature to have. And from my point of view, having a option to create a copy of a backup technically is what an Archive program should do ;)

;) I dont have a problem personally, bar at work patchbeam doesnt work due to the proxy restrictions. So I have to disable updates as it slows the system down and crashes PA at times. I am them forced to download PA, PAOP and Virtual Drivers from the website. of such i managed a hidden forum for the alpha team. Other users would have to request this. hense why i suggest you make publically available the latest versions of these files. cheers anyway,

Maybe it’s a bit too much to ask for, but it would be great if you can implement cloud functionality in PowerArchiver that enables users to back up local folders and files to any cloud storage service. In fact, I’m already using Gladinet to backup my compressed files to my SkyDrive account.

Hi Guys, A really simple one for you. It would nice if you could add an option to Shutdown/Hybernate “depending on system settings” within the CD/DVD Burner, Rip and Auto FTP. For example, if i have a large job in FTP that may take hours or a DVD that i am burning late at night. It would be nice to instruct PA that on completion close app create a confirmation Txt Log on desktop and then shut down. Cheers.

Hi, I try to archive many folders over night. I add them to queue. In the morning I wake up to find out that it stopped with some message dialog because of some error or other issues. For example something like: 1. The folder is in use. Enable volume Shadow Copy. (???) 2. Some unidentified Extract jobs appear in queue which I don’t know from where appeared. I did not explicitly add them to queue. Of course they fail for some reason 3. Maybe by mistake I added same job twice. (I need PA to prevent adding to queue identical jobs) 4. Some folder paths are too long. This drives me crazy. I need an option for jobs to run silently with no dialogs just skip to next job. Also when I minimize job to tray it pops again when a new job starts from queue. If I minimize to tray I want to stay put to tray and execute silently. Only a tray notification can appear if a job fails. The job should remain in queue with a Fail status. Also I’d like for PA to create zero size TMP archive file immediately I add job to queue in order to have a indication it’s gonna be created and rename it to final name after job finishes. Also for failed and skipped jobs I want to see reason in a log window.

@iampedro: If there is repetition type of jobs such as copy to one folder and then zip and send it up to a website it would be great if you could have a scheduler built in that would do this without being at your computer or with gui for setting up the scheduled task. Your still going to need to sit at your computer and set up the scheduled task even if it was simplified. :) I’m sure there would be ways in the backup tool PA has that can instruct a copy, move or deletion of a folder, sub folders, files for all files before the next step of Archive and FTP, Burn. Just a question of the paramators required before hand.

When you get an error on an archive it would be nice if you would record the steps you did to get the error and what is running on your computer at the time, this would dramtically cut the time for solving faults with pa.

I am using the image builder to make ISOs. Could it be possible to make it remember that last folder in which the ISO was created? I am busy trying to fix some corrupt linux ISOs and it is unecessary to have to keep changing to the desired destination folder. Also, I find myself looking instinctively for the ‘close’ button to be on the lower right, where it is frequently placed. With kind regards DrT

I think the problem is the example in manual is wrong since it doesn’t use the {p} option but is supposed to be an example of how to use the {p} option. I found this incredibly hard to decipher, and really don’t understand why SFX wouldn’t run the command line in the root extracted folder, especially when you set something like the default extract to temp folder. This could do with a lot of improvement, and better documentation.

Hi Guys, Can you update the Auto Update Screen within configuiration so it is disabled “greyed out” when Patchbeam has been uninstalled. Maybe have a message instead explaiing that Patchbeam has been uninstalled please download it via “destination” or speak to your administrator. Also create a msgbox for when the user selects “check for new version” and patchbeam isnt available it pops up with a similar message.
