Why not add crc to each file so even when compressed it shows you the crc of the files

I assumed the CRCs were probably correct.

Anyway you can’t just change the 7zip format, you’ve got to stay compatible with other 7-zip archivers.

I have had Windows 7 Ultimate 32 & 64bit since it was released in the UK and PowerArchiver has worked like a charm…

nope… PA still installs 64bit only… there was an wishlist item for that… to install both, we have to re-write our shell extensions… which means it has to come in major release.

not really though reformating my computer and reinstall windows 2000 solved the problem. I must thank pa for sticking by windows 2000 theybare a life saver

Thanks, that’s great! :) 7zip is my favorite format by far. Maybe it takes a lot of memory, but it’s really good compression, and I have plenty of memory.

ZIP SFX’s do not support ZIP AES yet… use 7zip AES instead…

When trying to look at the back-up file created in PA with PA the system hangs. The file is a little more than 6MB in size. We can view the file in Winzip. Is this a known issue or are we doing something wrong?

This is after a full uninstall, reboot and then install pre-release. So dll not updated for 64-bit? But no update required in order to correct the issue? I’m confused here.

probably due to the fact that dll actually just calls PA to do the work, and this has been fixed on PA side…

We had one german customer with similar complaint - it turned out permissions issue - it could not access remote drive when run from isolated account, but local folders worked fine… I am sure you tried compressing to local drives as we said before?

Oh, one last remark, about installing virtual drive.
As suggested, you may wish to leave it upto the user, so somewhere during the installation the user can (un)tag install the virtual drive software.

So, all parties are happy then, I guess… :-)

UPDATE:

I found a way around. Exclude the temporary directory specified in Configuration > Folders in the anti-virus program.

I don’t recommend using the default temp directory for this purpose because it’s also the system temp directory. Excluding it would expose your system to a great risk.

Of course, the best way is that MS will do something about it. After all, WinRAR and 7-Zip don’t need such tweaking.

I guessed, but it should be overwritten even with a timestamp. That or make it clear that overwriting doesn’t work with timestamping enabled.

overwrite option these is only to make sure you dont want to update existing archive when they have same filename. It is not there to delete old backups.

what we can do is disable the overwrite checkbox when timestamp is select, so there is no confusion.

Thanks - we were able to reproduce the issue on 64bit Windows.

While dev team looks at it, try deleting the queue you have scheduled. You can go to HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver\Queue and delete the whole Queue key. Then try again and see if everything works. There has been something specific in that Queue that made PA crash under 64bit but not 32bit.

Apparently, the animated hourglass in the released version is missing a frame (shock, horror) and hacks exist to transfer the full animation from the released RC versions.

Seriously, OT - I think I have discovered a bug where Win7 misreads NIC MAC addresses.

I wish there was a way you could some how make it so the PowerArchiver UI starts up almost instantly and then starts the unpacking.

Maybe you could do something like this for example.

Have the PowerArchiver UI open right away and then on the UI have a count down like “starting in 3,2,1”

I think that would look a lot nicer then the way it is now which looks like the ui is freezing.

install it on Vista64 in the same folder as it is on Win7.

I understand now - it will not work as registration is saved in Win7 registry and Vista64 is reading its own.

So if you want to save space, just install them both to the same folder and it will work fine.

What i dont understand is that it does not really need installation again - in Vista64 when nag screen pops up, you just had to enter registration code and it should have worked.

That’s what I thought. I’ll check again just to be sure.

Step 1: Boot to Win7.
Step 2: Open PA. It’s registered
Step 3: Boot to Vista
Step 4: Check to see if registered, if not then register it.
Step 5: Boot to Win7
Step 6: Open PA. Check for registration.

I’ll report back in a bit

I installed that version and it extracts ok in PowerArchiver. Still can’t extract via the context menu but that might be an admin issue.
