we will try to add standalone gzip and bz2 to PA 2011… Keep in mind that with only gz and bz2 (without tar), only single file can be compressed in archive, so only one file per archive. This is why we support only tar.gz and tar.bz - it is much more useful.

any wise installation program is actually a 7zip sfx file.

example of the wise installation i was reffering to is the powerdesk 8 installation univeral extractor and 7zip file manager recognised it as 7zip sfx but pa didnt

if you have say a nulit par rar archives with say h.001.rar say 20 of these each in order say h.002.rar etc and they are fairly large say 1-2mb each pa takes for ever and in some cases freezes up where as 7zip and winrar and winzip do it in a flash no problems

should of said fixed didnt know you have to open them with pa to actually install them no info on how to do this on site yjays why i thought i downloaded the wrong items

If you wish to use PA as Windows Explorer, simply run PA and select the Explorer w/Folders view

End User License states.

After you have registered, you may personally use the Software on one or more computers, or allow multiple persons to non-simultaneously use the Software on a single computer, but not both.

On a network server it’s different.

If the Software is installed on a network server and accessed by multiple workstations, you must purchase a license for each computer on which the Software is used.

seems to work fine here - /silent is the switch. Try that out… pabackup.exe /silent backup.pbs

you dont need to have .NET installed for PA though.

This error is due to bad MSI installation. You have to clean it by using Windows Installer Cleanup tool.

thanks a lot. i have identified an other problem with Preview window. the problem is that for certain avi files no sounds available. I guess you were using ATView (UniversalViewer) component and the error should be on that level as if i am opening the file via Universalviewer no sounds as well. This is a small an annoying problem.

I noticed &zip has only recently added support for TAR > 8GB. So if there is a current limit, this could be an interesting wishlist (for both PA and PACL)?

very small files are not being shown through progress so extraction is faster

Is there a way to automate the installtion of multiple self extracting archives created with PA 2000? I could call them in a batch file but when you execute a file it pops up a window to confirm the file path and if you want to overwrite or not.

I would be nice not to have to open 20+ archives and click start on all the systems we have to update this information on.

Yes, but my switch from WinRAR to PowerArchiver was a good one, I absolutely love PowerArchiver now

and from my experience, PowerArchiver extracts .rar just fine

I use PA for a long time, so i copied the new version over the old one…
This was done with the admin account. For the admin -account it works fine, for surfing i’ve a “guest”-account without admin-rights. For this account i have the descripted problems.
Should i try to reinstall PA for the restricted user?

I was trying out PowerArchiver.

I was trying to figure out what the difference is between making a normal encrypted file, and making an encrypted file using PAE?

When I choose PAE, the encrypting and unencrypting takes MUCH longer than it does using normal encryption.

you should be quite safe with using ZIP AES or 7zip AES.

I guess somehow it had two installations. Usually Windows Installer uninstalls previous version, leaves the settings and then installs new version (this is all during normal installation).

Since we created new shell extensions (before we had same name for 32bit and 64bit), if this uninstall doesnt go correctly, you could be left with 2… this is not how it should be of course :).

Dual reefers to both 32bit and 64bit, but they are never shown together… 32bit shows only in 32bit programs, such as PA or explorer windows when launched with 32bit programs, because then explorer is 32bit too.

can you zip your pbs and send it to support at conexware dot com and refference this thread, so we can take an look at it… it SHOULD work, but there might be something wrong somewhere… thanks!

The “simplest” approach would be using a DOS batch file.

Something like

FOR %%X IN (*.zip) DO PACOMP -a %%X readme.txt

Note: assumes all zip files and the readme are in same folder (and that PACL is in system PATH).

personally like that program though would prefwer powerarchiver to give total support to its own basic like macro program that would mean i would not have to create my own scripts and use the commandline version. If programs like irfanview can do it from the main program itself why can’t pa. A simple macro utility could meanthat i can program pa to say open a program export a file that i need and backup just that file. very usefull if you have limited space on a disk and really need to backup a file, and don’t want to lose the most important data on the program.

A macro utility would be better than plugins as it can open up a new way of creating plugins which is far better than the way we do so at present, or should i say noone has as no one has made a plugin specific to pa to date. They all see to use total commander plugins

your antivirus might be detecting new version differently.

You can also send us your settings to support at conexware dot com, that way we will try to reproduce the issue with same configuration as you are using.

To do that, go to regedit.exe, navigate to HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver and right click on it, select export and then zip it and send us zipped reg file to above mentioned email address.

well that is great news! I’m glad I asked that question as we now know that the issue is not anything related to your specific system.

We have this issue(mounting ISOs from network drives) reproduced and reported in our bug system already, not really sure when the issue will be taken care of, the developers will take a look and see what is up. Until then, I hope that mounting ISOs from a local drive will not be too much of a hassle.

The issue in this thread is actually my issue and I’d love to bounce some more ideas off of you guys to see if I can resolve my problem.

I’m on Windows 7 and PowerArchiver 2010. The archive was also created with PA2010.

I have 6GBs of RAM and I am only trying to move a few files from the archive, so I know I have enough space for that. Unless someone can confirm that I need to have space for all the files on the archive before I can move even one file?

I am able to load the main zip file and see the folders and files within that archive. I can even drag just one file from the archive into a new folder on my hard drive. I can preview all the files in the archive.

However, if I try to move say, 5 files, I end up with the same issue described above – 0% progress and Not Responding. Each time I try to restart the process, it takes 15-20 minutes to get the archive open and I try again with the same result.

Issue was not fixed in 11.63.13.

go into yopur computers safe mode and delete it from there it deletes ok from there just checked

you can block internet explorer from going on the internet via the proxoy settings. powerarchiver like so many softwares requies it to be present on your system

Actually why are there only three?
On XP all the right click options appear that appear when you right click any folder appear AS THEY SHOULD because the start menu is a folder like any other folder that you might quite reasonably want to backup to a ZIP file.

So I guess “web update” is just - not yet :p

yeah, but they cant be wrong… even if they do something that they didnt want, next screen has that checkbox that they can easily uncheck/check… so no need to over-complicate it… imho.

When I install the application I insert the first DVD and then I am asked for the second DVD.

How can I simulate this but using the 2 ISO files?

Do I need to join the two in one ISO?

But then what do I do if I am asked for the second DVD?

there was an minor release update, however there was no reason to actually update to it if you had .03 release… in other words, it is always done on purpose, no need to worry about it ;-)

I can only report that archives opened in PA, open at C:, even if there is no file 3-5 folders deep. Perhaps there is some setting in PA that causes this. I cannot find it.

In WZ the archive opens in the top folder with files.

Well, it doesn’t do this for me, so it sound like a fault or configuration problem - could be in archive or in PA.

Sorry I was unclear. I mean “open” as if fully open (in the associated program). I know this can be done; it is default in WZ. I thought it would be nice in PA as well.

Again, tried this with a zipx archive and was able to open both a text file and a pdf file in associated programs at the same time :confused:
Could it depend on the archive format or the filetype/associated program?

Note: Beginning to look like these are all faults or configuration problems - not wishes.

it is function of compression engine… we have our own for zip, while we use 7-zip engine for 7zip.

7-zip’s engine does not support move option.

I remember reading long ago that compressing encrypted files (whether in an archive or on a fully-encrypted disk, or even using NTFS compression/encryption) helped security. However, I don’t think in practical terms it really helps, since the security margin is already huge, provided you use a good password. Speaking of the password, there’s your weakest link–by far.

for PA 2011, we are almost decided on overhauling FTP component, so we will see then if this can make it in…

:) :) It is hell, pure hell. We know where you are, scurrying away here and there within the code. You stay schtum and taunt the rest of us. One day, somebody may just crack, the months’ of long silence having made them go crazy; not helped my the mention of an 11.63 release which does not materialise. The light at the end of the tunnel, the next major release, will come too late for some as these owners’ licences become free again.

You see how you are playing with peoples’ minds with this silence, this long and noisy silence? :) :)
