Kind of but no, :D because a user can already disable pa password manager and delete the saved passwords. Im saying that it would be handy to have an option in password manager to set a Master password for all archives, so when encrpting you can encrpyt with new password or with master password. This would then decrease the time it takes to password PA Files using the encrytion option. eg. PA Master Password “123” everytime i encrypt a file using Quick Encrypt it will use the password “123” obviosly no one else would know that password bar me. In other words its an amendment to the PA Password manager to enable a master password and an option when encrypting to use Quick Encrypt that uses the password you set or normal encrypt that askes you for a new password.

@madeinlisboa: … I have 8gb of zip archives with office documents spread through many directories. Converting them would recover about 3gb of disk space. …I’ll have to search all zip, convert about 400mb at a time, than delete them, because I only have 500mb free in this partition. If you are working on this partition, remember that you will need enough free space for the uncompressed files as well as the “new” archives. P.S. Maybe save them on CD / DVD to free hard disk space? You should also consider converting to CAB format. This usually gives better compression than 7z with MS Office document files - also have a look at PACL (command line/batch file tool) to do this.

I understand that Power Archiver 2006 has a backup utility and it works well. However, should the user require a constant update on regular intervals s/he would have to use Microsoft’s Scheduled Tasks as instructed by the help file. It would be nicer to have a Auto Schedule built into PA. A user also has to designate an area to save the backup script, cant this be a defaulted location such as Powerarchiver/BackupScripts/"name1 And should a user wish to change this location they can do within options. Just an Idea…

7zip will compress those files considerably better than WZ 11, so there is no sense in using some kind of “zip” format that is not readable by most other zip utilities. It is only confusing for other users and compression is still a lot worse than 7zip. In my test of some .wav files, 7zip compressed to 2 MB and WZ compressed to 2.5 MB.

I would be interested in a USB version that was not U3 compatible as well. I currently use EditPadPro and RegxBuddy from JGSoft and both of those applications allow install on both U3 and non-U3 USB drives. The application settings are stored on the drive itself rather than in the registry so there is nothing to cleanup. While this option may not be as well intergated into the shell, it is more compatible with the many non-U3 USB drives that already exist. I should probably try installing PA on my USB drive just to see how it behaves when used on other computers.

It is pretty impossible at this point of time, to start with, Delphi itself wont support 64bit until sometimes in 2007/2008.

@tjukic: Well yes, that’s what I presumed, but why would one want to use both cores for a single task. Gain from that in compression algorithms requires parallel processing of several chunks which demands algorithm rewrite. Most of the time that would be just waste of resources as one core should be available for interface thread or whatever else you do meanwhile your data compresses. it makes sense if you are not using computer at that time. And I am pretty sure that due to heavy memory and hard disk usage, it wouldnt trully help with 7zip - but then again, 7zip does support dual core.

@harry: 4. Icon design The icon is almost unidentifiable if percent number is low. I think it’s better to use the normal icon and a little progess bar (one or two pixel) on it’s right or bottom. BTW: I ever wondered why the tray icon looks that bad, and I just found out that it shows the progress. I prefer the way it is now, the icon filling up is “cute” :p

@andyr2005: Mate, that’s the Office places bar. However, the XP places bar is praticaly the same, but has different default places and cant be modified with own places, and is accessible from all XP application. The Office Places bar(s) can be modified as well (at least for office 2003). In the file open dialog click Extras - add to my environment or so (below print).

@WarOtter: Is it feasible to have support for creating Ace archives? Or is there a licensing or technological barrier? This PA forum (unlike general forums) allows searching with three letter words. So you can enter ACE in the search field and see all the related threads. Quick answer, it is a licensing problem (not a technological problem).

Okay cool. However, I was referring to a more permanent icon that is always resident in the tray, offering access to a custimzable menu of stuff, such as items from the tools menu. Just an idea.
