I would indeed like this moved to the Wish List. Thanks. I’m not sure why you would consider preserving empty folders crucial for backups. If the restore destination has the folders that the backup archive does not, then no harm is done during the restore. But if the restore destination does not have the folders that are empty in the backup archive, then the restore destination gets a bunch of empty folders that it didn’t have before. Maybe that’s useful if you want to transfer a folder structure, but if you only want to transfer files, why clutter the zip and the restore destination with empty folders? I’m just suggesting that it should be an option to omit backed up folders from the archive if they have no files in them that meet the filter criteria for the PBS. Jeff Jansen

I suppose there’s countless options that we would find useful for our preferences in a backup situation…I’m sure the team will give it some thought as they always seem to do when a request surfaces…:)

@jsjansen: By which I meant to say: When I: have this file structure: folder –file1 –file2 –file3 Configure PA with ‘Use normal relative path’ OFF and Create a PBS to backup ‘folder’ with ‘Include subfolders’ ON or OFF, and ‘Store relative folder information’ ON, then the resulting zip file contains this: folder –file1 –file2 –file3 and not this: file1 file2 file3 Jeff Jansen yeah, of course - it does not respect that option right now. I was just commenting that in the future, only difference would be exactly that situation that you are commenting :-)

david, you usually report bug in one line sentence :-). so whatever you want to do to improve bug reporting you can do it. For us, 99% of that info is not useful, because last time another software caused issue with PA was 3-4 years ago… and thats among more than 1,000 other bugs reported. What we need is nicely written way to reproduce the issue, and that will help us the most, as well as being patient and answering our questions, even if sometimes they seem endless :-)

It would be nice to have the auto backup feature manage the number of back up files that you would want to keep when appending a times tamp to the file name. For example, if you have a schedule set up to backup a few folders daily to a network location or device, have a setting that says, keep last X backup files where X is the number to keep and delete the rest based on the file name format. I wrote a windows service once that did this with the command line WinZip utility. It basically acted like a wrapper for that…
