But… I have one minor buglet to report on this. When you try to access a file with a different password then the last one entered, it initially gives an error that says “Error: The password is incorrect.”, which I suppose is true.

Ideally it should just prompt for the new password (which it does when you dismiss the error message and try again).

However, this is such a minor issue, and it’s so rare to come across a Zip archive that uses different passwords for files inside it (I’ve only had them for test situations) that I was reluctant to even describe the behavior.

So feel free to completely ignore this.

I have a problem using PA Backup to setup a .PBS automation script. The Protect with Password box is not masking the input password **** when .PBS is created or edited. The entered password is cleartext. :confused:

Can this be corrected in the near future?

Out of curiosity, why is there so much wasted space at the bottom of the toolbar ribbon? There’s a good 3/8 - inch of wasted space – unlike the top of the ribbon, which has no wasted space.

Unfortunatly, just published MS guidlines have strict rules on mandatory height of the toolbar.

As you noticed, that extra space wasnt there until B4, when MS Guidelines were published.

So we will re-arrange space in B5 in order for it to be used more efficiently vertically, thats the best we can do…

it is done so it is easier for people to register PowerArchiver. It might be easy to you, but we have had many people who dont know how to register :-).

We will modify shortcut to something else.

it is IE using expanding trick to make fonts larger under 120dpi… That option has been disabled in IE6, you have to enter it manually into registry or upgrade from IE 5.

IE 7 with zoom works great too.

This bug is still not fixed in Beta 4. I think I may go back to 9.64 until this is fixed, it is becoming more needed.

Hello,

I am experiencing a strange delay when opening archive.
I open an archive: PA appears: I select the file I want to extract, I drag the selection to a folder I want to put the files: the cursor is a forbidden sign. After a few seconds, if I restart the drag’n drop, the cursor is the normal arrow with the plus sign and the extraction can be performed.

The zip archives are located on a E: drive, the TEMP/TMPDIR/TMP are on a C: drive, the destination folder is on the E:.
The bigger the archive, the longer the delay. It’s as if the archive is pre-decompressed in the TMPDIR before its content

Running Vista x64 but I can try on XP if needed.

Can the relationship between queue and PA Starter be clarified, please?

it is not that complicated - queue needs PA starter, but PA Starter does not need Queue. So if PA Starter is started, disabling queue wont have any effect on it.

Since beta 3, when you exit PA Starter, it asks you if you want to disable it from starting.

I think it is related. Because It works fine before install. After every new installation, I have to reconfigure the queue.

It’s very simple.

1. install PA. Enable all the checkboxes.
2. Extract a spanned rar
3. Extract a Spanned rar

Now you will see that both files will be extracted at the same time. Instead of the queue

If I look into the configuration, the option enable PA queue is checked.

you can encrypt files if you dont want them to be accessible to others.

You can not corrupt file though, as zip file is not an application.

I tried cut-and-paste from the PA password box into the WinZip one, but it didn’t work. (The apparently-corrupt password has a lot of characters which can’t be directly typed using a UK English keyboard; that might have something to do with it failing).

It is a 32-bit console application.

my orriginal thought was you were upgrading your website to the new design 2007 but your probably correct it might be a problem with the information transfering via servers.

I checked my side of things and my connection is fine.

Some engines in PA do not support not compressing any file… As an workaround, you can select one file as well, and then delete it from archive.

Otherwise, it will not work without any file being compressed.

Update: Problem still present in Beta 3.

I have a zip that contains 1 file. It’s a ISO

1. open zip in PA
2. Open the ISO

PA is extracting the iso to the temp folder. This looks strange in the statusbar. Also the % in the taskbar stays 0%.

When Extracting the zip file, and minimize to tray, the tray icon build up to the color icon. But when you show the tooltip of the tray-icon it stays 0%. Shouldn’t this be the same % as the building process of the icon?

oh, in the powerarchiver queue application, the font is still MS Sans Sherif… you should fix that, too :)

ideas you can exchange in forums, of course, and there will be plugin listing page… Not sure about anything else, as that is more left towards the final version of PA 2007.

I always thought that Options button there looked tacky and Options tab we have actually is part of our interface, and I think it shows a lot more… Since it gives you many other options as well as config window.

So we will see - question is what will MS make us do with their licensing, and we still dont know that as their licensing pages have not been updated yet (should have been in November).

So no changes to Modern toolbar until we know more about that.

I agree on top right buttons, they will be updated, just a bit neglected right now :-).

spwolf is probably right about the binary file issue.

Brad: I suspect your files may have been transferred as text instead of binary (binary mode leaves the files intact and does not attempt translation), during either upload, download, or both.

If the issue is indeed a binary/ascii conversion issue, the file might be repairable if you reverse operation, though I cannot confirm. Also, an FTP client called “32bit FTP” claims to be able to solve such problems. I have not tried it; therefore I cannot confirm or deny their claims. Neither the makers of PowerArchiver nor myself endorse “32bit FTP”; therefore, proceed at your own risk.

Lastly, be sure to backup whatever you have already transfered to your FTP server before proceeding, as the files may be recoverable, and I’m assuming the last thing you’d want is to corrupt them further.

PowerArchiver Queue doesn’t support extracting few files from archive (only all files).

But I will make for Beta 3 one workaround that unchecks “Add to Queue” if user selected files and “Add to Queue” is checked by default.

Encrypt window will now have “.pae” format mentioned from Beta 3.

One noticed bug so far was connected with updating 7-zip archives and will be fixed in BETA 2.

There has been alpha testing of this version almost 2 months since releasing BETA 1, so I guido said, most things should work even better than in 9.64 version.

But as it is BETA there is still warning that something may not work as it should.

You can create SFX (.exe) file from zip archive that will have pre-defined extract location.

However, you can not pick different locations for different files inside SFX, that would be something that an installation tool would have…

just to let everyone know i managed with some degree of success to make pa work on these emulators

if anyone else has any particular emulators they know pa works with please let us know and we can update this list.

if you have standard toobar on in pa and you select smooth vista skin then seletct default skin again it goes to the modern toolbar which you cabnn only change by the option not easy.

thats because it is actual certification, not something you can just put there… Once we finish with PA 2007, we will apply for certification (there is also testing and review process to make sure it follows the guidelines).

I had to uncheck sharing on that folder and then re-enable it. Something got hosed on the sharing set-up in terms of credentials and it just had to be re-established.

Sounds like a solution to me, I have tried this and it works it is on the second save and final exit of excel that the documents updates its archive.

If your good at macros you could always setup excel to save twice and close automatically for you.

Would be nice if PA As you said would show you the progress of updates in the background!

However, if I was a guesing man i would say that this same problem happens with other file types. - will look into it.

I have created a tar.gz file of Unix binaries PA-Risc and Itanium. These tar files are working fine when you extract these on mentioned platforms, but if you untar the packages on a LINUX system it doesn’t unpack the tar file proper. Any ideas?

simple method did you encrypt with aes zip or pae encryption from the too bar menu in poawerarchiver as that format is not supported by windows.

Just incase you didnt know, on your main page you have the Link button “PA for U3 Devices”. However, this button doesnt display in the pages for “Skins” and “Forums”.

It’s been a while since i qualified as a web designer, but i know how easy it is to forget about new buttons and links for all your web pages.

I didn’t get an email advice about this new post (above), so I don’t know what is stopping it.

The exim logs from this website will show if an email was sent though (assuming Exim is used).

However, as it has now been manually activated, and I do not have any problems with PA, then it’s not worth trying to find out ‘why’.

If I do post, I’ll just check back on the forums.

you will get list of updates once we release beta. We dont have strict dates but it should be relativly soon.

We dont usually announce list of new features before the release.

Well, i tried uninstalling and and I still didn’t get a context menu for zip files. I then reinstalled PA and no luck still. I did notice this time that the zip icon was displaying in explorer but not in the Open file dialog.

So now I’m desparate and pulled up regedit and located any zip keys and had a delete fest :) I have it working again, but I’m not sure which entry fixed it. There were a few entries to zipfldr.dll that just seemed suspicious. I’m thinking the problem was somewhere in that area.

Anyway, after deleting the entries from the reg I reinstalled PA and everything seems to be fine now.

I believe I was getting the same symptoms on my laptop. I’ll try to narrow down which reg entry is actually causing the problem when I get around to restoring it.
Maybe it will be of some help if anyone runs into this.

One of the versions after 8.0 (2002) should list the removal of this “feature” :p

we dont usually list removed features, heck, we dont list all features added (it would be too much). At the same time, feature was never added since it was removed from final release, so info should have never been there in the first place. :eek:

there is big difference there. If you open an archive inside PowerArchiver, by default behavior it should open in that same PowerArchiver.

However that still does not mean that you only want to use single PowerArchiver window, which is what reuse would force.

Open in new window sounds like great option there.

From the PowerArchiver help file:

The Virus Scan operation performs the following actions:

1. Creates a temporary folder

2. Extracts all files in the current archive to the temporary folder

3. Runs the virus scanner against files in the temporary folder

4. Deletes all files in the temporary folder and removes the temporary folder

So you use Kaspersky Anti-Virus from the command-line to scan the current directory:

email us at support so we can give you reg number as well OR if you purchased PA 2004 or before, you can login to your account and you will still be able to get PA 2004 from there.
