For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

Some labels in the help toolbar are not translated:

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Solved Virgin install

Hi,
After a long-ish battle with my win 7 install, which I had been using for many years, I am now on a virgin 8.1 install. It has been configured to be identical to win 7 as possible.
Two minor issues:- Installing new skins is impossible as PA is installed in the program files folder, so it is a permissions issue. I did fix this by brute force in my last install so would like advice on how to fix it here. Do I use the “take ownership” context menu?
The other thing is that PA still takes ages to load. What the heck is going on behind the scenes that it should take so long? Honestly, I did not see any difference thyat the startup optimisations made in the v17 line of PA
Cheers

@drteeth dont you have access to soon-to-be-beta PA 2018? Check out its speed vs PA 2017.
As to the skins, give us a link to example please (of a skin you are trying to install). It should be installed to app data.
-
I assume extra skins are meant to install to:
C:\ProgramData\ConeXware\PowerArchiver\Skins -
Thanks both for the info on where to put skins, I will check it out.
I do have access to PA 2018. I will download it and have a play. It wiuld have to have a considerable decrease in startup speed to be really noticeable. Also, the second and subsequent starups are not that much faster than the first one of the day.
Cheers

Update about beta. I downloaded 18.00.08 and it seemed to put a lot more in my install folder than just the powerarc.exe file. I did rename my original file before the install. Can I still revert by swapping these two files? VERY impressed about the speedup improvements.
-
@drteeth cant wait for you to try it :)
-
Hi all.
WOW! Now that IS a serious drop in loading speed.
Regarding the skins issue. I cannot get any skins from the PA site to load at all no matter where I place them on my hard disk. The skins I was experimenting with are Slate and SmoothVista.
Can I get updates via Patchbeam or must I download them directly from this site?
Cheers

@drteeth this week should be start of 2018 patchbeam updates, but not yet exactly. Things are still moving at fast pace.
Full skins are not supported anymore like that… new skins coming up soon. But Slate and Smoothvista interfaces used to work with directskin that stopped working properly with x64 version. However toolbar icons should still work (not tested in 2018 yet)

I had to stop testing as I found the unregistered version nag screen that appeared too annoying. If it can be removed, I will start again.
Due to the nature of the beta, I assume that I can have both PA 2017 and 2018 installed and usable at the same time? Is that correct?
I asked about downloading via patchbeam as I really do not like this forum software.
The good news is that I have retired by old Win 7 partition and am now on Win 8.1 x64, so the Virtual Drive feature is working again. YIPPEEEE!
Cheers

@drteeth there will be email with links… also you can configure forums in settings to load full page and set pagination manually, so it behaves like everything else… i have made it default now, but i cant change it for existing users… i assume thats the problem.
-
Hi,
Sorry, but what do you mean by “there will be email with links…”?
I also did not get any notification for your reply even though I am “watching” this thread. I’ll change a few settings.
Cheers

online code works with every version since it checks and downloads appropriate offline code… and I have sent you manually offline code (in email) if for some reason you cant use it… latest release is a .16. Check it out and let us know how it works.

Hi,
I have not received an email from you at all.
I have been using the .16 release, but I need to get rid of that nag screen.
Cheers
