@pirrbe If you go to Options> Config> Misc> Enable PA debug, you will get debug file with all the options used and timings. Thats the real way to test and to send us info on the testing, since we can see that way if anything is wrong or not done correctly. Thanks!

@pirrbe i would guess we need to expand this to include .pa and make it work without pae… compress & encrypt is an legacy option for when ZIP encryption was poor.

@ckit said in Flat Folders View: Ummm yes, now I feel stupid. Thank you! it is original view in PA, we added explorer view maybe 10 years ago, or 12 :). Missing it is normal because there are million options and no matter how much we try to show the most important ones, something will be missed.

@alexmiller said in Lite/Free version and other plattforms: @spwolf I actually would pay for a lean ‘core’ version focussed simply on maximum performance. Think a multithread Winzip 1.0. I generally don’t use the advanced features, sfx, encryption, etc… All I need is an ultrafast startup, compression and decompression. Even with a 90s interface I wouldn’t mind ;) compression and decompression is as fast as it can be in PA 2017 already, it is really well optimized. Did you check .pa format? For startup speed, lets use that other thread :-). thanks!

Confirmed that the problem is fixed in 17.00.70, but still with some room for improvement: PowerArchiver 17.00.69 7z Optimized Ultra: 41.579.382 bytes. PowerArchiver 17.00.70 7z Optimized Ultra: 29.057.719 bytes.

great improvement ! You can even drag/drop from one panel/directory to the other panel/directory even multiple selected files. One question : does it request a lot of program coding to ‘automate’ this process ? Adding a ‘move’ icon, that you can hit after selecting files to activate the transferts ?

what would be great if the status bar could tell you if there is an update to powerarchiver saves you having to go and check on update and check that way

I know this is a plugin question but it would be nice if powerarchiver could display what version of a plugin is installed. for example 32 bit or 64 bit and the version number so people know and can diagnose why they have a fault in a plugin

I know you used to have this in 1998 but it would be nice to reintroduce this feature. it would be great if you could detect an archive with wrong extension and offer to change extension. only if you are trying to open that archive. good feature as many compression programs just simply can’t open archives with wrong extensions

what you could do then is have an option for solid archives and non solid. the idea was to get more information on an archive instead of just a list of files. The listings at present look ok but they are only the barebones if you want detailed info what in the archive including date added to the archive

@H4ndy yeah… pretty much everything was tried… same goes for apple’s port of zstd. Not efficient for archiver at all.

I don’t think that really needs to be in the program – the mapping should be static by file type. It could be handled in documentation, but if you’re opening something like an .exe or an odd extension it could be useful to know what type of archive PA thought was being opened.

x86 programs run perfectly (and start faster) on x64 system. Only thing not available is addressing over 2GB of memory. Since in 2017 we are adding our own format where you can use more than 5-6 GB of memory, realistically, when needed, we are also adding full x64 version of PA. Also, codecs built from grounds up might support faster instructions in x64, so with .pa format you will see up to 30% faster performance in x64 than in x86… for .zip, performance difference is nowhere as close, if any.

I know you can create plugins for powerarchiver but it would be nice to have documentation so we can write our own archive formats to use from within powerarchiver.

the idea was to run pacl commands from within powerarchiver. Just thought it would be easier to install just one program

while we just last week, Microsoft sent us all the info for the store, it is unlikely that these store updates will have same timing as our regular updates… plus it will likely do everything all over again… but lets see what happens.

@drteeth said in Is this possible?: Is it possible to burn an ISO without extracting it from a ZIP file first? If it is not possible yet please put it on the wish list. If it is possible, could you please let me know how. Thanks DrTeeth PS Don’t like the new forum at all. i guess we could make it you can click on Burn on supported ISO inside archive, and it would do everything for you. It would still have to extract the file, but it would be to temp folder and deleted after PA exit?

Hi, You should add a option that creates independent spanned zip files, based on approximate file size or maximum amount of files per zip. For example, I’m working on a project that requires ~2,000,000 files that are ~272GB in size. The machine I’m working on has only 60GB of free space, so I can’t put all of these files on the machine at the same time. Current span zip option allows me to split the zip files, but is dependent on all of them for extraction. I would like to create 5GB zip files and move them one by one for processing. After processing I’d delete the extracted files and move in the next zip file. I currently use a software called “SpinZip” which does the above, but I’d really like if it could be implemented in PowerArchiver.
