Many viruses also corrupt the files and even archives. If that is the case then upload the file to virustotal.com which scans the file with all antiviruses avaialble and presents a report.

quite possibly it was really locked, maybe due to AV checking? In any case, closing the thread. In fact, we could add this to the VSS code as well - ability to read locked archives (currently we use VSS to read files that are locked), but this happens so rarely it is probably not worth the effort.

@cswake: Re-install didn’t work, but an uninstall/clean install did. ok, cool - sometimes something else messes up dll registration (in this case for shell extensions). thanks - closing.

I’m closing this thread. Thank you to all for your replies. :) As it turns out the System Scheduler utility has failed to properly execute an automatic Windows login, so when PABACKUP is scheduled no user is logged in, causing PABACKUP to crash (perhaps not very elegant programming!). Before I run all of my backup scripts, I schedule a series of housekeeping activities (closing applications, running CCleaner) followed by a system restart. System scheduler has a setting to automatically initiate a Windows auto logon and this works well in Windows XP, but has stopped working in Windows 7. I’ve had to find a different way to initiate a forced Windows auto login (I’m not relying on System Scheduler for this any more). Problem solved. Thanks again. :)

btw these are the drivers that get installed with Virtual Drive, they allow for direct access to burner devices, and they are much better to use than standard Windows SPTI. PowerArchiver Burner can use: SPTD, SPTI or ASPI for burning drivers, but SPTD is by far the best of 3 and recomended for fastest operation and least number of issues.

@ampillion: It’s worth mentioning that the ZIPX format does make full use of my quad-core setup, thanks to “Multicore compression” option. I wondered why this option doesn’t exist for 7z format? it is due to the different engines - our engine for zip/zipx is our own and multicore optimized. For LZMA/LZMA2 we use 7zip engine. What is happening right now with your issues is: a. We didnt optimize Ultra settings in same way as 7zip - this should be simple fix in next release. b. Devs turned off multicore in lzma2 since it would crash PA due to some issue with 7zip dll. We need to figure this one out. thanks for all the help.

there is no way, it is done on purpose since malicious users often use sfx’s to introduce viruses.

Hello, I’d like to know what variable there are (if any) for use in the “Parameters:” field for PA’s virus scanner feature. I’d like to use ClamWin as an extra security option, but it needs to know the full path of the file to be scanned, but PA’s help (at least the version I read, which is in Portuguese) doesn’t provide a list of variables, so it doesn’t work. Thanks!

@Kai: Yes, this did not help. But after reinstalling PA11, I do not see the error anymore. The German option now works flawlessly (without setting to English). Therefore, uninstalling and reinstalling PA11 somehow fixed the bug for me. it seems that language was not set in registry at all, hence it didnt know what to use for sfx.
