@Charles: Also, (and this is an ommission I have mentioned before) check under “Select Backup Type” window, “Save as Type:” and you’ll see all formats listed, except BZip Tar is missing. Beat me to it… Bzip :o - that’s MY format - you stick with BH :D

Unfortunatly I dont think we can - cab compression is always done via cabinet.dll which is supplied by MS and its development has stopped long, long time ago. sorry,

@Anthony1uk: Thanks but is there anyway that i could set it now or you could set in future releases that if i choose three objects and right click on one them the archive will be named what i right clicked on. As to me it seems strange it would only give you the option to call it desktop.zip i mean why would anyone want to call their archive that? Thanks for all your help though Say you want to put aa.txt bb.doc and cc.exe into cc.zip. Right click cc.exe and create cc.zip containing just cc.exe Then select aa.txt and bb.doc and drop them on to cc.zip cc.zip will now contain copies of all three files

I haven’t used version 6 of PA but I would guess that it doesn’t support files over 2GB. PA 6 is very old and is no longer supported. I would highly recommend upgrading to PA 9, which only costs $20 and for that you get upgrades for life.

If you have an idea of the length of the password (eg. between 5 and 8 characters) along with a range of characters that were used for the password (eg. A-Z letters and 0-9 digits), then it’s possible to write a script using the command-line version of PA (ie. PACL) to brute-force try all possible combinations.

@spwolf: I think I know what happened - He used german version of 9.2 and PAOP 1.00 does not recognize non-english versions properly (different registry key is used for every different language so they can co-exist properly). Once 9.2 is released, PAOP update will be as well, so it can be used with other language versions of PowerArchiver. thanks, same answer!

For all we care, you can keep using it forever. However since it is not distributed anymore, you should not really install it on new computers. That being said, we dont care. What we care about is that it is an +4 year old software full of its own bugs. A lot of people still preffer it to the other freeware zip however I RECCOMEND anyone to use newer software that was designed for newer operating systems and has its issues fixed! I really dont reccomend the use of PA 6.xx or any other PA version than latest, or of any other software for that matter. We improve PA working on it on daily basis and we feel that is what you should use. thanks,

I don’t know of an “on-line translation”, but if you need a reference guide to “translate” common terminology (not technical) try http://www.effingpot.com/index.shtml

FYI: On the credits link from the “About Page” for Powerarchiver v9.20.06 is: “For compression and decompression of BZIP2 compressed files (.bz, .bz2, .tbz, .tbz2) PowerArchiver makes use of LIBBZ2.DLL. The BZIP2 project is completely free and available to everyone. More information can be found at http://sourceware.cygnus.com/bzip2. We wish to give thanks to everyone who helped us create PowerArchiver, and send a special thanks to the following people: · David Cornish –- who improved explorer shell extensions, added SFX CAB support, created the original toolbar skin, offered many suggestions, found many bugs, and provided many solutions to problems. You can get David’s wonderful SFX Maker here.” http://sourceware.cygnus.com/bzip2 appears not to exist. There is an underlined link “here” after “SFX Maker” that points to http://sfxmaker.powerarchiver.com/ , which says only “serving you at the speed of light”
