@Claude: we can’t create zip/cab self extracting exe @ivan: Actually it is mentioned in PA Help;) Go to PA Help -> Details -> Command Line Options. No it isn’t. Help only mentions If the archive is a ZIP file POWERARC -tosfx “filename.ext” there is no mention of cab files (or any other sfx format) except zip. … for all other compression/decompression stuff we recommend PACL. The original question was about using PACL and not PowerArchiver. According to manual.txt - SFX from PACL is not possible (at the moment).

Hi, you should email the file to us at our support@conexwareREMOVEE.com email address. Just make sure it is small enough. That way we will be able to check it out a bit better. thanks

Is it my destiny to live without Power Archiver? Only if you don’t keep up to date (if you encounter a problem). With Winrar I don’t have any problems… You not really trying ;) " I love Angelina Jolie! " Whoa, a little bit more information than I asked for … unless you are archiving her photos. If so, care to provide some examples of the archives you are working with … just for testing - honest.

A bit more info regarding the KAV problem: I used Filemon (www.sysinternals.com) to see what the difference was between PA and WinZip. The result is that PA actually opens the file and closes it, which is obviously what’s causing KAV to scan the file. WinZip on the other hand only queries the files, but does not actually open it, hence KAV does not scan the file in this case. I know PA 9.2 will be released for alpha testing soon, but thought I’d let you know about this extra info now.

Shell extensions (explorer right click) - when activated this option is only available for Zip compression. Is there a configuration (or profile) I have missed which enables changing the compression format used - or should this be in WishList?

Hi, Currently, PowerArchvier does not display CRC or packed size info for 7zip archives. In general, when archive is solid (which means that all files are treated as one big file) you do not have single file info. 7zip still stores CRC info but no packed info, so you wont see compression ratio either. We will implement support for displaying full info in non-solid archives and crc info in solid archives when we update our 7zip support for 9.5. CRC signature is still checked when archive is being extracted by 7zip.dll, so you should get an error message if file is corrupted. thanks,

I’ve noticed problems with PowerArchiver & zip associations in the past. More often than not I’ve had to re-register the association with Explorer in order to view them as folders after installing Power Archiver, even though I’ve not selected zip files as a type to associate with Power Archiver. This didn’t seem to be a problem when installing 9.11 on a fresh XP SP2 install recently, although now for some reason Explorer won’t open zip folders in the same window any more. It will open them in a new Window, but I can’t work out how to change the default action back to ‘Explore’ rather than ‘Open’. I can only assume that Power Archiver caused this problem.

Hi, it seem there is one small bug in listing of archive. recently i downloaded the trial version of Corel Graphic Suite 12 from www.corel.com and decided to view the archive and PA 9.11 didn’t list its content it showed only one dir. When I entered this dir and returned back PA showed already 3 dirs but no files in root dir. At the same time WinR** could list the archive and 7-zip also could. P.S. PA extracted the archive w/o problems. The archive itself contains 3 dirs and 6 files in root dir. Alexander.

@Java: I downloaded evaluation version several times after it did not work the first time, but had the same (non) results. Double-clicking on the powarc911.exe (either on the Windows desktop or inside a folder) causes it to do nothing. [Actually, it does make a Windows error-beep sound, but nothing else happens!] Is my system too low in reqources? Using MS Windows 2000 Pro (5.00.2195 SP4) on an Intel Penium 4 CPU , 2 GHz, 512 KB RAM. (Free RAM XP Pro reports I have 259 MB of RAM free.) I do have McAFee Virus Shield enabled. What else could be the problem? If you need additional information to diagnose this problem, please let me know what else I should let you know. All help will be much appreciated. What a pity! This looked just like the thing I needed right now! ~ JC ~ Hi, It could be that: your download has been corrupted and you have been re-downloading bad but cached copy you dont have admin rights or your MCAFEE is blocking PA’s execution. Assuming that you have admin rights and that McAfee is not causing problems, can you tell us what is exact size of powarc911.exe when you check it in Windows Explorer? You might want to redownload it by holding shift and then clicking on the link PLUS saving it as with different name. thanks,

@spwolf: You just enter . into the filename field and it will show you all the files in that folder, if you select that SFX archive, it will “fix it” even if it is an EXE. Problem with putting general “*.exe” in there is that, obviously, it would show both SFX archives and all other EXE files. While you might know the difference, an average user might not :-). thanks, right, but the average user would never guess to put the . to be shown all files…I guess I’m more than an average user, but I couldn’t think of that simple trick! the normal user should be assisted in the largest way, I believe… and don’t forget that the tool’s named “Zip repair”…so one can’t promptly guess that it can be useful also with exe sfx archives…

@manuangi: by the way…I guess this option should be not modifiable, and set to check… I’m thinking of a reason why one could want it unchecked, but nothing cames to my mind…what do you think? Reason it is there is that in some cases, when you have large SFX archives, it will slow down your system when you just click on the file in Windows Explorer. So in certain cases, depending on what you do on your computer, you certainly might want it off. :-) Closing it.
