    End of Powerarchiver

    Please publish latest translation templates
    BigMikeB
Hi, it would be very kind, if you published the latest translation templates for the current PowerArchiver 2023. So we could complete the translations for the current version. At the moment, at least the Windows 11 context menu and some items in the menus are not translatable at the moment. Kind regards

    Windows 11 Shell Extension crash
    W
Copied the Take Command shortcut, changed Target to be wt.exe -p “Take Command” and saved it. Right-clicked to get to properties and Explorer crashed. (wt.exe is the Microsoft Terminal program, which I have installed from the Microsoft Store.) The Target path had changed to: C:\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\wt.exe -p “Take Command” Created a new shortcut in a Start Menu folder and set the command line to the same, and it crashed the same. Created a new shortcut and set the command line to mspaint.exe (also a Windows Store app) and Explorer crashed on right-click on the shortcut. It appears PowerArchiver shell extensions doesn’t handle Windows Store apps in shortcuts properly. Perhaps it needs better defensive coding around checking the Target of shortcuts, or just ignoring shortcuts altogether. Running PA 22.00.11 on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.6584

    Affected by winrar/.rar vulnerability?

Was Power Archiver affected by the WinRAR/.rar vulnerability discovered by ESET researchers recently? Not sure if PA is using their libraries for extraction.

Ultimate zip was made by powerarchiver
    D
From google search AI Overview Yes, that’s correct. UltimateZip was indeed a product of the same company that developed PowerArchiver, and it was essentially a rebranded version of PowerArchiver. It was discontinued and replaced by PowerArchiver.

    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT
Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D
Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 . The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg I know it has non standard quotes in it. However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip. Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it. Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver. When will a fix be implemented?

@Luxor: All that matters is I’m happy that it’s now functioning properly and I hope that it stays that way and doesn’t revert back to the compact menu as happened in previous versions after a couple of days use. What a great way to start 2014! :D

The issue is with the automatic issue of drive letters. I found another piece of software that worked similarly to PAs and also used StarPort drivers. I have updated these drivers via windows device manager without any difference. Anybody have any ideas where the upper and lower filter keys for the PA virtual drive are in the registry or even what the drive is called (Rocket, StarPort, PowerArchiver, SPTD)? Restore points will not help, old ones gone as many installs and uninstalls have written new ones.

@davidsplash: will the new paf format allow the same actions as zip meaning you can work with files inside a zip file and it will automatically update itself. I would like to see recovery like they have with rar. A paf repair tool as well and encryption. sfx program for paf. It would be a poor state of development if they couldnt repair there own code. :) but very valid points, and if PA want users to use their new format then they will need to tick those standard boxes you get with competitors formats, would you not concur?

you need to test it with taskbar jumplists, not with start menu jumplists… it seems as if start menu jumplists dont get updated at the same time you change options, but taskbar ones do.

@Ren: I’ll bump this older thread… :) This is one of things I would like have too so I read through older topics and found this one… I think that making another button is crazy but to have ‘…’ for leaving archive will be enough for everyone, won’t be? It’s something I’m missing much. Spwolf, I know I can use bckspc, I’m doing it so now…:-) But to have ‘…’ for leaving archive when we have it already inside of it would be great and will make work with bigger number of archives more transparent. :) I tend to side with you. I think just the ‘…’ would be enough.

it could be combination of plugins… PAOP has been used for years now, never got that complaint. what other plugins do you use (other than ezdetach)? We will try to install them on our Win7 with Office 2007 and see what happens.

Hi! Made som more tests with PACL 7.00 [May 11 2012] and noticed one small thing. When running PACOMP without any parameters, no remainder pop up to tell the user that the program is unregistred. However if I run the PACOMP with parameters and a file to create the remainder will pop up. This is inconsistant behaviour as PACLREG.exe PACRYPT.exe PAENCODE.exe PAEXT.exe PAFIX.exe PASPAN.exe all have the pop up remainder to register the program when running it without any parameters. It’s really not a big issue, just noticed that PACOMP don’t behave the same as the other program when running unregistred without any parameters. Kind Regards Micke

Disabling video hardware acceleration might give a clue as to whether it’s the video driver or not. In “Display Properties”, click on the “Advanced” button then the “Troubleshoot” tab of the Video Adapter properties page that shows up. If the problem goes away after ratcheting down the Hardware acceleration and/or turning off write combining then the problem is almost certainly he video drivers.
