Using shell extension, I have Test as a choice. However, if the file does not have the correct extension, then Test reports “This does not appear to be a valid archive”. It would be useful if Test could actually examine the archive structure to identify if it is “simply” a naming problem and if so report the format used (I appreciate it may not always be simple). As a test - rename Tutor.zip to Tutor.7z Additionally, in PA GUI “Test” should be available before archive has been opened.

Okay, thanks for clarifying that for me. I’ll be eagerly awaiting this being added to the next version.

i really dont understand why would you put this into the “what should be next format” in PA thread… this is why we have complete forum section for wishes - so not everything would be together in one post. and you might want to explorer some of the skins, they already have different icons included… it is a bit of work, but it might be worthwile, up to you ;-)

Can PowerArchiver burn “BIN” files? If not then that would be nice too :)

@infimum: Sorry for bumping, this really bugs me. Too small for a tree display. It shouldn’t be that difficult to implement, should it? thats what happens when you enter an new wish or bug, depending on how you look at it, as side comment to another wish or bug. thats why we try to ask everyone to make specific thread for each issue or wish they have ;-)

@Wepver: Well, you could have iso files associated with Burning software, cbr to a comic viewer,… and PowerArchiver would kill that associations. And if you later disassociate those formats then the earlier associations would not come back. Yes, but that is the situation where I proposed using the “open configuration” option. P.S. personally I never “disassociate”, I always associate from the relevant utility. PA is not the only one that doesn’t support “disassociate”. @Wepver: That is false. AlphaZIP allows the use of 7z, rar (but it could not compress it), and other compressed formats as folders. Interesting, I didn’t know that. Just had a look and it is a shame that AlphaZIP appears to be a dead product (no forum and no updates since 2007). @Wepver: The main one is dual panel. (Drag-drop files from one panel to the other. For example: One panel is inside 1.zip and the other one with 2.zip. You could move files from 1.zip to 2.zip easily and only with one PowerArchiver instance opened) Now this would be an intriguing feature (if possible) for copying / moving between archives especially if all formats were supported e.g. Drag from RAR and drop in BZip2. Not sure about speed/memory requirements but why not - this is a wishlist :p

A very useful feature (for the users of the new epub format (which is a simple zip file)) would be if PA allows arrangement of files inside the zip archive (useful after a file modification or addition of new files inside the zip). It would be enough if users could put a specific file (mimetype) first in the zip table or at least if PA doesn’t change the order of files inside the zip (preserve the place of edited files and add the new files at the end of the zip table).

you need to test it with taskbar jumplists, not with start menu jumplists… it seems as if start menu jumplists dont get updated at the same time you change options, but taskbar ones do.

@davidsplash: i was jsut generalising for instance some iso can not be opened by pa. it would also help compatibility with other archivers. those are completly different, ISO files dont have version info in them like zip archives, and even in zip archives, that info is always wrong for compatibility reasons.

I sure hope this is going to be added soon. It’s sorely missing from PA versus the alternative(s).
