Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)
I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.
Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption
Open archive after creation
-
A simple idea, but the only archiver I’ve found that does this so far is WinZip:
When creating a new archive using the shell extension, an option to open the archive after it is created. This makes it easier to work with the new archive, rather than having to manually hunt it down and open it.
I’m thinking the option would be something like a checkbox titled “Open archive after creation” on the Add window.
-
from what I can see friend we already have that option…see screenshot.
I extracted files and the folder opened instantly to show me my files…nice and handy…:)
-
ah forget that…just read your post again…you asked for it after creating a NEW archive…my bad sorry.
-
Sounds like a great feature. Something I would use.
-
yep some would find it useful…not me personally but many users I’m sure.
-
Thank you, MarcFou, for supporting my request. I’ve been asking the WinRAR developer for years to add this simple feature, and have given up. That’s why I started asking for it to be added to PowerArchiver.
I often create archives using the shell extension, starting with a single file or directory in one given location, but then want to continue adding files/directories from other locations. That’s why it would a convenience for me to be able to quickly create an archive using the shell extension, and then have it opened automatically so that I may edit it further. Currently, I create the archive, but then have to find and open it manually before proceeding.
I realize that I could first run the archiver and then create the new archive that way, but that isn’t much easier than what I do now, and it defeats the convenience of the shell extension.

Would you want this to be active for every ADD (once selected) or only current ADD function?
It is not something I would use, so wondering if this should be P.A. configuration option or possibly an alternate shell command … (e.g. compress then open). -
I was thinking it would simply be an option in the Add window, along with the usual Add window options.
-
persistency is key to victory.
Add window in shell and Config option to mirror? Checked once, used always.
2 more bugs found and wish shall be granted.
deal?
:-)
-
Deal!
I’m fairly good at finding bugs, shouldn’t be a problem. :)
-
i feel evil now.
:)

Blackmailer…:p
not bad strategy for the future :).
Step 1. Read wish thread
Step 2. Ask the hampster if wish is solid
Step 3. Decide how many bugs need to be found for the wish to come true.Hampster is crucial though, as without Hampster we might end up with freaky PowerArchiver :-).
-
OK you lost me (you have a knack for doing that). What (or who) is “hampster”?
-
he could be referring to beta testers…little hamsters running around in their wheels doing the testing…lol
or it could mean something completely different…that’s my take on it anyway…:) -
The “p” added to the confusion…
-

mythical being that lives inside of every cxware’s employee head, and that we consult on things that are more important than us.
“p” was added so PETA wouldn’t sue us for making fun of hamsters.
it was a joke, lighten up people! :-)

-
we will build a remote switch inside PA which triggers self destruct mode for this option, if you decide to stop posting bugs after this wish is granted
:-)

This post is deleted! -
of course not :P.
just appreciating bug reports :)
-
If this was moles42’s thread i would like be Whos your daddy/boss now, but i have to restrain myself and just say :-)
-
so this has been implemented in preview #3… yay!
-
Yay indeed. Thank you. I do appreciate it.
I found that the “Compressing Files…” and “Mode:” items are grayed out until I select the “Open archive after creation…” option. For some reason, selecting that option “ungrays” those things. (The same type of thing happens with the other options in the dialog, although in some cases the applicable option has to be checked and then unchecked for the “ungraying” to occur.)
