@spwolf OK, but what if you don’t have a registered copy because your Toolbox license has expired? Can you continue to extract PA files? Or is your ability to interact with PA files completely cut off?

@trparky I had the same issue as you did - the latest windows 11 update (March/23) seemed to be the cure - give it a shot.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix coming? This is a primary reason I buy PA.

I’ve tried both methods I know to extract multiple zips at the same time. 1) Multi Extract feature in the GUI. 2) In Windows File Explorer, select multiple zips, right click, use PA context menu to Extract or Extract To…

Is there a setting I missed? Or maybe it really is processing in parallel, but I can’t detect it? Nothing tells me in the Processes in Task Manager that multiple PA extracts are running. And my CPU, memory and disk resources do not look like a lot of extracts are running.

I’m using PA 2022 Standard version 21.00.18 on Windows 11 Pro version 10.0.22621 Build 22621.

It looks like its resolved in the latest Windows 11 preview update (March/23).

When the function for testing archives is invoked via the shell context menu (PowerArchiver > Test) then all the files in the archive get extracted to the current folder.

The test dialog reports as many errors as there are files in the archive but it fails to give any hint as to which files are supposed to be erroneous or what the nature of the problem might be. Comparing the extracted files to the originals shows no differences at all.

The .7z in question was produced with maximised compression settings in 7zip (taking forever but resulting in smaller archives than .7z produced by PowerArchiver with maximised settings). Therefore I wanted to see whether PowerArchiver can at least test .7z that it produced itself. Hence I had PowerArchiver convert a .pa with the same contents to .7z. There weren’t any errors reported but the resulting .7z contained fewer than half of the files contained in the .pa (137 of 366), so I scratched that test.

Performance is abysmal when testing via the context menu (e.g. almost 2 minutes for testing a .7z that 7zip tests in 4 seconds), but that is most likely due to the fact that the extracted files are written to disk. Testing the same .7z in the PowerArchiver GUI takes only 8 seconds but causes the mysterious appearance of a UAC dialog, as reported elsewhere.

The testing function is vital because PowerArchiver has a history of producing archives that it cannot unpack without errors or that do not conform to the respective file format standards (e.g. ZIP) so that other programs report them as erroneous.

The point of creating archives is that the files in them will most likely have to be extracted at some point. If the extraction cannot be guaranteed to produce correct results then the whole program is absolutely pointless. Actually, worse than pointless - it causes data loss and hence damage.

It’s been changed a bit for the worse in PA 2023 22.00.08.
Now the option labelled “Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts” can be set and unset when queue is disabled, but it seems like it doesn’t do anything.

I installed powarc-macos20001.dmg and I am attempting to create a password protected zip file. When I create the zip in the UI it doesn’t write the file to the destination folder. No error message is displayed. The PA app has full folder permission. I’m new to Mac, but have been running PA on Windows for a long time.

Will there be a new version of the Mac version soon?

IMHO, that should NOT be the only way to add an image or log file to a forum post as there are more people without a domain than ones that do. This usually means something is wrong with your Windows Installer, usually setup repository got wiped out.

Try cleaning PowerArchiver entry from Windows Installer database by using MSI Clean Up tool:

That should delete PowerArchiver previous version from registry and then you should be able to install new one.

As to the images - in the future, you can use imgur.com to post links to image files, They are very reliable and great image host.

We’ve checked with the latest version which created the encrypted archive properly.
Right click on a folder>Encrypt and the archive is created inside the folder that you right clicked on.
Please check that folder to see if it’s there.

That’s working fine, and scheduled jobs are running as required. As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, my .pbs scheduled jobs are timed to run when other system jobs, like Macrium Reflect image backups, aren’t due or running; and vice versa.

However, I can see a situation in which I would want to use PA Queue, and thus need to run PA Starter, and I don’t think we yet have an answer, as to why PAS grabs so much CPU. I have previously used ProcessExplorer to lower the PAS priority, but this doesn’t appear to make any difference.

This still seems not to be fixed, is it?

Hi. The “Move” Action seems to be Not Working when used in the Tool – Batch Archive.

Using the Options – Configuration – Compression Profiles ---- I created a Profile with the Action of Move. Also set were Zip, and Method Deflate.

When I use the Tool - Batch Archive – It appears to me that the Action Move does not Move the compressed files (basically add to zip, and delete the added file from original location on the same disk). Zip file(s) are created and look ok.

Typically I on the Batch Archive process – I have selected options to use a Profile with the Move Action.

My PowerArchiver version is 21.00.17 .

i just registered my own copy and i need some help to set it…

if i set the ‘configuration>shell extension>open folder after extracting’ checkbox, after decompress an archive is opened the file manager on that folder but… if somebody is using a different file manager how to open XYplorer or Directory Opus for example and NOT the MS file manager?

Zlib is not the only feature that intel has included with their processor, there’s many, which if combined can result in efficient and better compression ratios.

i have been going through some older posts, so i have to respond to this - apologies.
Intel’s zlib is terrible piece of code full of bugs, i think we still have some bugs opened with Intel about it as we used Intel compiler for a while. And PA’s deflate is actually faster.
Consider it a PR piece that does not work.

I have tried to burn a DVD with PowerArchiver 2022 Final, but it didn’t work because PA didn’t found the external DVD-Burner.
I have tried several burners from Sony, LG, Dell.
I have connected the burners with several USB-Ports but unfortunately without any success.
With other burning software, e. g. Nero, all burner worked perfect on each USB-Port.
The same problem occured with PA2018 and it was solved with an update, but I don’t remember the detailed software version.
Could you check the possibility of an bug, please?

When I create a ZIP archive with another program such as Winrar, if I open the file with Winrar, the original Access and Creation dates are also displayed.
If I optimize that zipper file with the Optimize Archive function of PowerArchivier (or create a new archive) the resulting file no longer has the original Access and Creation dates.
Is there an option to preserve this data? (I haven’t found it in the program settings and I have already enabled the “save complete folder info” options in “Compression Profiles”)

Upgraded from 2021 to 2022. Selecting ‘backup’ no scripts are showed. Only after editing and saving an existing script (explorer) it shows up in the PA backup folder.
So is the ‘backup’ icon to open the Backup screen only for creating ‘new’ ones. This means that you have to open ALL your old pbs files and to save them again… not user friendly.
No way to improve this ? Thank you.

As the RC Candidate 21.00.14 overwrote my version 20.10.02 and considered me as an unregistered user, I uninstalled PA completely and downloaded the latest official version 20.10.03 and I am back in business and without that options clouds problem…
Strange : when I checked for updates I never got the release 20.10.03 in the picture (patchbeam fast ring ??)
Is there no way to install RC Candidate 2022 beside your installed PA. Now the soft detects an existing installation and consider it as an upgrade and gently overwrite your existing PA …

When adding a file into an existing archive, in the add file window, if you click in the breadcrumb bar to navigate to a parent directory, the file list does not change. The directory Up button works.

Ok I thought it was the Windows Open with menu… I just added the Open with PA to my PA context menu and it does not work.

Since I have PA as my default app, my WIndows 11 top menu has and Open command and Open with (sub menu). So I never even noticed PA had the option to add an Open with PA in its context menu.

But no, you are correct. It just opens PA without opening the archive.

the new Windows 11 context menu is not localized in PA 21.00.13.
While the classic context menu is localized, when it’s opened on a file on my desktop, it’s English, when it’s opened from a file on my C drive.

I’m still getting the nag screen in the options dialog, when clicking on SmartAI or internal Editor with version 21.00.13.

PA Queue does not compress file optimally with same parameters if used in Queue mode.

Being able to save advanced option, and set a default profile and archive type for compression so I can save clicks.

The above two are majorly affecting my efficiency with archiving stuff with PA 20.10.03.

Can someone confirm if they are resolved with the 2022 RC1?

I sent a txt file of the registry to support, but now I
tried to install PA on my Surface Pro 7 with W11 and the problem is there too.
The same behavior, when I open PA, it is functional and registered, if for any file
I right-click and select e.g. wrap or unwrap, a registration request pops up immediately.
So it’s not a single computer problem. (This information as a second email also sent to support.)

My problem is that your system doesn’t let me log in, even I asked reset password and change it and make sure that I write new one correctly, because I use Bitwarden, there isn’t possibility to typo it.

I have faced the login problem once. I also use a password manager. What I did was reset the password to 10 characters, no special characters. It had fixed the problem for me.

Verified: Uninstalling PowerArchiver from the system solved the issue.
I can now burn ISO files to the DVD-RW / CD-R Disc.

@spwolf Yes. Maybe the first step would just be that you could fill in something like:
.apk=.zip .info=.txt
in the configuration to say .apk files are always to be treated like .zip files and .info are always to be treated like .txt.
Also either
=.zip
or maybe
.=.zip
would mean files with no extension are to be treated like .zip.

It would be nice to be able to configure this on a directory by directory basis but I can’t really see a good way to do that without it also making things rather complicated.

The best I can come up with would be to say that you could store the configuration in a file in the directory with a special name and PA would know not to store that special named file and would instead use it to adjust the configuration. Something like .PAConfiguration

I thought with paid-for software like this there might be support that replied within a few working days of a request for help.

Hello. My problem with Powerarchiver is as follows:
First of let me say that I am running a Windows 7 Starter edition on my Toshiba NB505 laptop. You can see my specs if you google it. Needless to say that it has very limited resources and has low ram and roughly 1.66 GHz Atom processor.

I am currently using the latest version of PA. But mostly the tasks I do with it are create and uncompress zip files, as this comes in handy with my needs for compressing older files which I dont need. There is where it comes my issue with program and it is just that version after version it becomes harder for my computer to load and create zip files and 7zip ones. Needless to say that the same goes for zipx.

I have been using PA for a decade and its a good program but it is just that the current version has things which I don’t need or seldom use it, such as the preview file panel, and also the explorer tabs, skin customization and the nagging conexware update tool. Thus I was just asking, Does it exist a minimalistic version of PA or perhaps some ultra light version of it?. Something which it can be run on older computers.

Please don’t say to install an older version or going back to 2003, as well, this is not what I had in mind. I know that I could use the command line version but for me usng a GUI is more convenient. Regsrding compression speeds, I mostly use deflate for legacy zip files on the fast setting.

So far what I am doing is to set PA to use the classic skin windows view and while it does alleviate some of the lagging symptoms it doesn’t really seem to make the program to run or load faster.

Any help or advice on my problem?. By the way, I use the PRO version as that’s my current license. By the way, does PA has any pdf user’s manual or reference book? I see there are changes and numerous functionality that has been added but I have no clue on how to use it. I hope somebody could help me with that as well.

I will be honest with you.

You release minor versions because you fixed bugs, optimized performance/code.
,
You release major version because you added new features, made overhaul to the software, and it’s competitively better than old major release.

However, all your releases had same bugs, same outcome, I hardly notice any difference between resulting compressed archives, there are no new algorithms, there’s no optimization or performance improvements, and no new features.

Many devs have made it a hobby to release new major versions to sell new software due to major upgrade.

also, don’t wish to go offtopic, but ConeXware’s Encryption suite has never been updated, it has same visual and operational bugs, yet you guys are selling it openly, without disclosing the fact that software is no longer supported.

I feel the same with this software.

P.S. commenting after 12 days, there’s no minor version update yet. as per your 10 days statement.

I wish to completely customize the default PA profile.

so whenever I start archive from shell, i do not have to go to advanced options and customize the plzma(size and entropy model), zstandard(levels & size), ppmd_sh(sizes) options.

not having to select zlib level, dictonary size, method optimize strong, compression level extreme.

there are various options that I would like to modify for the “PA Default” profile so I do not have to create any new profile.
