is there any particular reason you feel we should remove it? SFX Maker has been an great freeware tool in past and many people are still using it, even though it has been over-run by time… This is one of the few last places you can download it from. I see no reason for us removing it, nor would that be beneficiary to anyone. I am closing this thread. thank you,

Hi, I made an archive. The data that I’ve compressed is 6GB, I used Standard ZIP with these options: “Super Fast” option, “Write Directly into ZIP”, “Use Deflate Compression” “Make large ZIP file (over 4 GB)”. The archive contains a CRC errors while testing it at 4% “CRC error, continue?”, it’s size is 3GB, well I don’t know how, but when I made a “Maximum (slowest)” compression with THIS settings, the file was more that 4 GB. If I create an archive without the option “Make large ZIP file (over 4 GB)”, the archive still contains CRC errors. Why is that option if it not works?

You should use Total Commander for deleting those files, until PowerArchiver includes this feature. I had this like of problem before when I had more that one million AVI files in one folder. Windows crashed immideatly when I’ve enterred the folder.

Both screen shots seem to be using the same font Look at the word Encrypt on the Toolbar button and Option list. PA menu uses Windows settings. I cannot identify the font you are using - maybe Times New Roman but the ‘y’ in Encrypt is “unusual” Right click on your desktop and select Appearance, click on Advanced button Then under Item select the dropdown option Menu What do you have for Font ? You can change it here if you wish. On my PC it is Tahoma.

Thanks for that. I know about that just thought we should know what made it, so we understand if there are any errors in the help and why they might be there. Also i want to know if they used something different as i was hoping to use chm files for my own programs.

@jblaty: In about 2.5 hours, I had my zip archive restored. That’s a relief :D @jblaty: the GUI button for Extract does not work properly with a password-encrypted archive. OK may have found something, a similar problem (but with different format archive) was reported here http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700 So seems that more testing is required :(

@davidsplash: …bit like batch creation but with batch extraction Yes, but how would this be generally useful? If extraction is always to the same destination, then create a batch file (.bat) to extract once and then copy. If the destination changes then a batch file is not useful, but extracting an archive multiple times is not efficient - again extract once and then copy manually. This just seems to be a “one-off” request and not a “generally useful” type of request. The quick answer is that that multiple extraction is not possible, but if a good reason exists then add it to the wishlist.

@jsjansen: But PA can’t do this because, as soon as I clear the “Add only if ‘Archive’ attribute is set” check box (so that PA will disregard the archive attribute and backup all files), the “Clear ‘Archive’ attribute” check box becomes unavailable. Correct - and you have already requested this in the wishlist http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574 Personally, I don’t see a reason to leave the attribute SET after doing any backup (full or incremental), so I would want it always cleared. So to differentiate FULL or INCREMENTAL, the choice may be based on archive attribute. But instead of an option to CLEAR it - the configuration option should be to NOT clear it :D

@davidsplash: can we add it to the same place you make pae encrypted files, i mean have an option box either to creat one or either. it is confussing for new users to undersand. Cause the tool bar jsut sayes encryption fbut you can only make pae files with it. The tool bar is misleading to new users. you cant add it there since you have to do it at moment of zip file creating - which is at zip options, and not later on (which is what PAE does). I am locking this thread, thank you!

Solid archiving significantly increases compression, especially when adding a large number of small, similar files. But it also has a few important disadvantages: slower updating of existing solid archives (you have to repack all the files); to extract a single file from a solid archive all preceding files must be analyzed. This makes extraction from the middle of a solid archive slower than extraction from a normal archive, but, if all files are to be extracted from a solid archive, the extraction speed will not be affected. if any file in a solid archive is damaged, it will be impossible to extract all files which follow the damaged area.
