Hi, For those who are Fellow Avast! Users it has been I thought that you would like to know that Version 5 will be released sometime in Octobter “If Alpha & Beta Testing goes well” They have redesigned the user interface and create re branded their suites. A Free Home Edition “as displayed” B. Paid proffesional version “Avast Proffesional” C. Avast Security Suite “with firewall” The Avast Security Suite includes a firewall for the 1st time in ages! This is something that I personally have been talking to Avast too about with the last 4 years!! As previsoly I have had to use their software for virus protection and then a brand like ZoneAlarm free for a basic firewall with inbound and outbound protection. @Sir: Agree 100% Office 2007’s Ribbon Interface is great once you get used to it. I am already pushing the IT department to move onto 2007 at work. However, it is the training cost that is expensive as well as the time involved. This is one of the main areas I love about PA 2007 “the ribbon interface!” I just wish the configuration screen was back the way it was in beta and not the way it is now. Or atleast a choice. while we are bring 2 year old threads, config is cool again :-)

Davidsplash I 100% agree with you! With the online registration part it is and continues to be a royal pain in the backside! of which wont change. However, there are work arounds that if you havnt tried already take note as its reduces the problem. 1. When upgrading/installing clean windows xp vista dont register untill the last week. 2. Download or obtain Service Packs CD’s and install them before using windows update this keeps windows clean from fragmented updates which CAN and DO cause glitches despite what people say. 3. Create a backup of all your Drivers use a program such as “Driver Genius” and keep it archived. This means you can roll out upgrades for same spec systems far faster and in theory you have already tested the drivers and know 100% they work without problems. Once all the above is done and you are happy with the stability you can either register windows or format the system start from scratch but this time use the Driver Genius backup files to update your system with all the known and trusted drivers. on another note through testing Windows 7 Microsoft are really pushing the boat out on making this OS backward system compatible. Meaning if you use 2000/XP it will work without significant impact. They are developing an inteligant code which looks at the system specs and only installs required components needed to run. Unlike Vista where it installs everything but then disables the features if your system isnt up to stratch and the problem is it is still their in the background hoging up space and memmory!!

I like it. It seems stable, but so did XP. I’m not going to upgrade my older computers to it, but I don’t have a problem with buying it on any new machines. Over the last month or so, there has been deveral driver updates released for my laptop, which fixed minor issues. I would say by this Fall, there wouldn’t be much of reason not to buy a machine with Vista on it, yet I can honestly say I don’t see any reason to upgrade a machine to Vista. XP works great and is just as stable. The only thing that I have found that I don’t like about Vista is the User Control protection thingy that pops up. I’ve thought more than once about turning it off, but I’m trying to get ‘use’ to it. In the end, I wouldn’t be suprised if I end up disabling this feature, just to dog gone annoying.

I am planning to use Nessus (installed on Desktop) at work (production devices) 1- Is there any difference between Nusse Linux platform and Windows Platform ? 2- Is it a good idea to use more than one monitoring tools on different PCs, like Nusses on one PC and SolarWinds on other PC or ? 3- Does using Nusses (Linux or windows) affect any network devices (Cisco devices, hp servers, etc ) 4- Is it necessary the PC which has got Nessus installed on it, to join AD domain ?

at least we agree that software venders that disable features reduce the possibility that a user will purchase their program. And may I make it clear that Cracks, Serials are illigal and ruin the software market for everyone. If you like a program buy it because just like everything in this world “supply and demand comes into effect” the more demand the cheaper the products get. “unless the developer gets gready and decides to up it anyways!”

In your context “compressing” has a different meaning to the compression offered by PowerArchiver. Most popular “media formats” are already compressed and will not give you any saving of disk space if you try to Zip or 7-zip etc them. @effigy233: … I ripped dvds to folders and they have VOB files … As spwolf answered, you can save space by ripping to a different format. For more details/ideas refer: http://www.dvdripguides.com/ http://www.doom9.org/ Note: mpeg2 / mpeg4 are “compressed” formats. @effigy233: …I copied all my music to my computer… Again depends on the file type/format. Maybe converting from e.g. .wav to .wma or .mp3 would reduce filesize without a noticible loss of quality. Note: wma / mp3 are “compressed” formats. @effigy233: …i have stored … pictures … Again depends on the file type/format. If your pictures are “bit mapped” ( .bmp) then converting to .jpg or .png will reduce the filesize without a noticible loss of quality. Note: .jpg / .png are “compressed” formats. When your dvds, pictures, music is converted into one of the compressed formats, further attempts to compress the files using e.g. Zip or 7z could actually INCREASE the amount of disk space required. The only way to reduce disk space further would be to collect them into a single file or groups of files (improving the actual block size used on the hard disk); for this you could try TAR format - with NO compression. @effigy233: … i have stored programs … Do you mean the program installation (setup) files or the actual folder(s) from e.g. “Program Files” folder. Most setup files are already compressed and so the above warnings apply again. Of course, after converting/compressing, to then view/play your files, you will need sufficient free disk space to allow the extraction from the archive first.

Yes, use the Search / Advanced Search tool on the main Powerarchiver Forums Header(Toolbar). Tip: use “outlook plug-in” rather than “outlook add-on” as that is name of the PowerArchiver “tool”.
