I was thinking about upgrading to newest PA version so I installed it for testing. One thing: new icons. They’re too bright (or maybe the saturation level is too big). Look at the attached image and compare newest icons to other, typical icons. Note that the color scheme is totally diferent, they just don’t go to well with each others. Look how the older PA icons (bottom of the image) look good with the others, even the oldest are much better. The contrast with the background is much too low, and on default system color scheme it’s even worse (white background, and very bright yellow icons). Note that none of default Windows icons don’t have such high saturation, they’re all based on the same level. Look at the second screenshot, new icon just doesn’t fit there well. And on the third screenshot you can see that many bright icons near each other can give you a real eyes pain. So I ask you to make an option to choose from oldest, new and newest icon set when making file associations. It just a small tweak, beacuse the icons could be called e.g. 1xx (oldest), 2xx (new), 3xx (newset) in the resources and in that case it’s just a small fix in the registry and everything would work fine. I would rather such a system came in the form of a plugin. I have no need to change the icons or use skins and would rather it wasn’t a compulsory part of the program.

@davidsplash: the repair tool only works on zip files so you have to change the exe to a zip extension before it will work… @TBGBe: 1B) Know to use ZIP Repair (on an exe file - from B) Actually, when you use the Open Dialogue within the repair tool, it seems as if will only allow selection of ZIP files - however you can type in the sfx filename e.g. ARCHIVE.EXE The repair tool will work and produce a " _PAfixed.zip" file.

@spwolf: Right now if you leave associate with… check, it associates with PA’s default associations, without taking care of what your current settings is. Solution is to uncheck it :-). I dont know what could the solution be in the 9.5, maybe uncheck it by default if PA is already installed? Probably I was not quite clear. Default associations in PA do not include JAR. Just do a clean installation and verify Options -> Configuration -> File formats. Still at installation it seems to associate everyting

Hello, Is it possible to add in future versions an options to just use one icon for all archives? Without the file format text on it? I don’t need to see the extension on the icon (I’m sure I can’t be the only one), if I do I can just get windows to always display file type extensions or sort the explorer view by file type. You could have an option for to enable switching between one icon or many (one for each file type, as now) either in settings or maybe in some sort of first run wizard.

@encode: Take it easy man! Sorry, on reading my post again, it could have been worded friendlier. No offense intended. But I still don’t understand what changes you are thinking of for the PowerArchiver GUI. As klumy asked - can you give specific examples? @encode: It’s about compressing tar files with standart test files. Ah, I see. I did say I don’t understand Russian :p Anyway, more about that program is probably too off-topic for a PowerArchiver forum.

Is it possible that the update function automatic start the downloaded file, so we don’t have to start the update ourselves :)

Interesting… in fact, PA was the first to implement Open With in right click menu inside of app itself :-). good one.

@andy2004: How about a seperate sfx program like davidsplash asked for, but using the same license key. so when u register for powerarchiver u get the sfx program free. aka use the same username and code. Problem is that if we have to maintain completly separate package, it will have to cost something… Otherwise, PA SFX is pretty decent with its features, probably more than what normal users need…

Hi, today I was modifying some nVidia driver files, but they seem to have SZDD compression. PowerArchiver is not able to open this files or even extract them. I have no further information about this compression mechanism, however I do know I can extract those archives using Microsofts Expand tool. I would like support for this compressiontype. Also other driver packages have sometimes SZDD compression. Here some History CAB History In 1977, Abraham Lempel and Jacob Ziv devised and published a paper on their new compression method, LZ77. In 1982, James Storer and Thomas Szymarski released their LZSS variant. In the early 1980s, Microsoft required some form of data compression for their installation media to cut down on the number of disks needed to install MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows, so they took Haruhiko Okumura’s implementation of LZSS. Their compressed files had a SZDD signature. Also a link with lots of information: http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php

Well, you can buy PowerArchiver offline - via fax, check, bank wire, etc, etc. They are all options when purchasing PowerArchiver (you select them from the list of options). :-)

Hello, Would it be possible to add FTP resume to PA ? I think it would be great to add a checkbox “Resume broken uploads” in the config section, and if this choice is made, it would be nice to be able to enter the number of tries, and the time to wait between each try… Well, I know it’s easier to say what I’d like than for you to do the job, but I think this improvement would be great… Congratulations for the job already done, Regards, Delta69

This is something I’ve thought about many times. I would definitely support that. Although, it would probably make the SFX stub much bigger.
