  • Filenames in Explorer Shell extension (context menu)

This has been brought up http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485 and here: http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1269 already, but I want to bring it up once again: I am almost always using the Explorer shell extensions of A, namely the “extract archive to subfolder”. But when you have long filenames or a rather long directory/path the context menu gets really big. Like in the example: “C:\Use…\Ski…\Des…\Dow…\Mus…\Art…\Alb…\1. Artist of your choice - Album of your choice - Title of your Choice.mp3” And because the filename doesn’t get truncated you can get even bigger size menus by using longer filenames. Why not use a static entry for the context menu like in the shell extension settings, or like this: “Extract to subfolder” “Extract to <subfolder>” “Extract to ./subfolder” And for the new feature “extract to filename/(multiple archives in separate folders)” it would then be: “Extract to separate subfolders” “Extract to separate <subfolders>” “Extract to separate ./subfolders” Which will be replacing the above enty when selecting multiple archives. And also for Compressing: “Compress to filename.zip” “Compress to <filename>.zip” Hopefully this will be changed, because I more than once had a context menu taking over almost the complete screen! THX, Zefiris</filename></subfolders></subfolder>

If you have queue enabled and que up a bunch of archives to be extracted, and then right-click the PA Starter tray icon and click Show Queue, in here it would be nice to be able to: Select multiple queue items by holding Ctrl or Shift (so you can re-position more than one at a time). Have the ability to ‘move to top’ and ‘move to bottom’ for one or multiple items. Thanks for reading…

Add an option for DVD sizes in the presets of this list. Right now the largest it reads is 700MB for CDs. Might as well add BD and HD-DVD to this as well, though I dont use those personally. This is an issue because PA uses KiB (2^10), while the DVD standard uses KB. (10^3) (For the difference, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KiB) This would be really useful for backing up large amounts of data. Billy3

Add an option to load each .zxx file one by one. I use PA for dvd backups, and I need 2 times the restore space to restore a backup because PA fails with error: “Unexpected End of Zip File”. Then I manually have to go file by file until I find the one with the split…… etc. This would be really useful for my 20 DVD zip file backups! Billy3

@Jerry: Please concider adding an exception list based on the recipient(internet and exchange address list)/domain being sent to. Possibly also an option to not send to anyone in the current exchange organization… Situations, like internal e-mails, warrant not zip’ing a file. Internally, people just don’t always want to open an archive to get to a spreadsheet or presentation. Thanks Again! i am not sure if we can do so, but interesting idea…thanks!

Hi Crew, I wish PA would create a software version of PA for Windows Mobile PDA’s I currently use “ZIP” By HTC Innovation V1.11 (Build 211505) as this was included as default when purchased. However, doesnt come close to the features PA does!

Please consider moving the “Action” field to the main Add dialogue box. Since this field retains its settings from the last archive created it has the potential to cause problems. For example, if the last archive created used the move action instead of add you could potentially delete important files the next time you create a zip. Thanks, Jerry S

Hi Guido, I can see why you are requesting this. But doesnt that conflict with the whole idea of the Queue system. as the point of it was to ease system processor time and allow for each extraction and compression to be prioritised one by one. The user also can also prioritise each item by moving up and down the list can’t they? However, with that said… I understand that on allot of popular download managers the queue system can be instructed to Prioritise by number etc also they have a button named “Download NOW” which overrides all other items in the queue untill it has been completed.

Good Idea! Only the other day I had an Archive Zip with multiple Folders in and thought it would be usufull if I could not only drag the files to the location but the entire folder as well without using the extract feature. Little things people notice makes a big difference!

Hi PA, With reference to an old and closed Forum, http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2617&highlight=PowerArchiver+Internal+Virus+Scanner The Disabled Tab Option for “PowerArchiver Internal Virus Scanner” is still visible. If this is not needed nor is planed for further development can this be removed from the “Locations” Sub menu.
