Nevermind I found the serial and username keys, and removed the entire Powerarchiver tree.

What I want is to add files to a zip, but the name in the zip should be different from the original name. e.g. demos\demo v3.txt infos\info v2.pdf data\data v4.exe these should be organized in zip like for example /demo.txt /info/info.pdf /setup/data.exe Actually this would require some assignment feature. I’m thinking on a list file like: /demo.txt=demos\demo v3.txt /info/info.pdf=infos\info v2.pdf /setup/data.exe=data\data v4.exe having one file per line [/virtual_target_path=]source_name At the moment I have to organize all the stuff in a folder and then zip that folder.

Never used SQL shell… but one thing occurs to me; as you are running in a shell perhaps you need to specify the target directory [ -p command ]?

I’m interested to know if Power Archiver is capable of creating a tape archives (.tar files) on a Windows XP system, so they can be written to tape and later viewed on a Sun Solaris system. I have heard of other applications that can create .tar archives and write directly to tape (WinTAR-SCSI), but users have had problems reading the contents of the archives on Solaris systems.

Ah - Ok. Tried pacomp -a -r -sep \testing\ignore.zip “\testing*.jpg” Almost works for me (OK in the target folder: testing) I also get the file by file output listing.; so I cannot explain the no messages as you report. But the subfolder recursion doesn’t work  Note 1: which drive:folder are you running the command from - pacomp needs target info from the archive name; with your example would be in “current” folder. Note: Cannot test with different drives, on this PC sorry. Edit - just had a thought - if recursion is not working, then there may be no messages if your Backups\databases folder has NO .BAK files to compress.

@Eggerd: Apologies the bad English!!! That’s OK. I have the same problem in German :D Check the size of the damaged Zip file. If it is only 1KB as you originally reported (when trying to change the name) then the archive cannot be fixed - I’m sorry but you have lost the data. If it is large enough to contain the data then you could try different repair utilities - e.g. 7-zip, WinZip etc. but I doubt they will work either. This is one reason it is recommended to have more than one backup - and to test them after creating.

Andy, many changes were done to PACL to bring it to 5.00, basically all of the improvements from PA versions since PACL, should be included in 5.00 version.

@spwolf: -p is for relative path, -P is for full path… I know you know I know that :p Relative path should still save the Sub-folder names. Note: Just noticed I missed it out, but I did have -p in first test.

Two possibilities I can think of off the top of my head (not tried) - 1. include the root folder name -x"FMWEB\web.config" 2. create and use a @list of all the files to be excluded.

@Sandro: … a 130Gb IBM DB2 Backup of a database. Sorry, but currently PACL compression (any type) does not support such a large amount of data - the current limit is ~2GB :( If you don’t need command line - try PowerArchiver for Windows.

Latest version 4.01 on WinXP SP2. The files are all .msg files and total combined file size is approximately two MB. Files can be deleted successfully manually. Also, using another command line utility with the exact same files and directory structure I experienced no similar issues. I tested this with both utilities at least ten times each. Of those tests the other utility had a 0% failure and pacomp had about an 80% failure rate. “About” coming from the additional times I reran pacomp on the remaining files and having it work. An odd anomaly is that after terminating the batch file it ran from I would also have to kill explorer.exe which I had opened to the directory housing the .msg files to monitor activity. I was careful not to have any files selected during the process of testing to prevent any open handles to files. Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide you with to help.

Wow, two in one day!! Also curious as to what the errorlevels returned back from pacomp and others are. Also, I noticed in the manual.txt that spanned zips “may not” be compatible with other zip programs.??? Are they or not and if not with some then which ones? thanks!!
