I have a feeling we are talking about several different things here. 9.26.01 version had an problem with creating 7zip files, which was not in relation with any other bug. Whole 9.xx>9.26 7zip support has issues with some specific 7zip files in a way that it could not read it but it could be read by 7zip FM. Complete code was changed in 9.5 release so this problem does not exist anymore, in >9.5 releases. Anything else is an separate problem needing its own thread. If files “dissapear” from 7zip archive, and can not be read by 7zip FM, then this would not be PA specific issue. I do have to say that nobody reported anything similar to this so far. So, for best 7zip experience, or rather for best PA experience, use PA 2006 9.5, as with every other PA release, not only it has more features, it is also considerably faster. thanks, closing this tread!

Using 7z format “sizes up to 16000000000 GB” {http://www.7-zip.org/7z.html}. :D Although I am not going to test this

@johnsa53: When uninstalling PA 9.2, Windows XP’s built in zip utility is not restored. How do I restore it? From http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm To Restore Compressed Zipped Folders Association http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/zip.reg @narfm: it seems to me that having the uninstaller properly restore the original context menu and file association would be easy fix to provide The problem is what to do if another utility has been installed later which takes over the association? Now restoring the “original” is incorrect. You should create associations using the desired utility. It is just a pity that windows doesn’t provide a nice way to do this.

Or just stick with PA - try 7z format for better compression :) Don’t forget to update from the beta to the full 9.5 release when it is available. :D Right! I’ll watch for it! And thanks! Stephen

http://www.powerarchiver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1218 The above link mentions that 9.26 has a bug in it concerning the 7-zip format and they are working on a fix. If you are a personal/home user, I would recommend giving PA 2006 a try (version 9.5.XX). Beta seven seems very stable and I believe they are getting close to the release of of the finished product.

ok, so you WinXp x64 users - make sure PA installs under Program Files and not Program Files (x86). Windows will not let shell extensions to run from x86 folder! This is only valid for people who had already installed PA on the computer so PA’s installation will look at last installation folder. New installations will go into “64bit” Program files by default. thanks!

reason we never have special free beta keys is that a. our software is always fully functional, b. our beta’s are very usable, so there wouldnt be many reasons to actually purchase PA :-))). Anyway, I think this got settled, final is out soon and this thread is cllllooooooseeeed! thanks.

The workaround was good enough - just purchased a copy and very pleased with it!!! @TBGBe: Yes, the normal ZIP password is not very secure and you can find “cracking” utilities on the internet. In this discussion thread, we are using encryption to refer to the “AES encryption” options for ZIP compression (as spwolf said). Note: in PowerArchiver there is also “PA encryption” - this is also as secure as AES, but cannot be invoked from PA Backup Express Lite.

@gsuchecki: Hi, I need to use command line options(PowerArchiver)… May be a stupid question - but why? PowerArchiver really only supports extraction via command line. PACL is the command line version of PowerArchiver for compression. PA license is valid for PACL, no extra license requirements needed.
