it will force it, as option text suggest, it is useful for compressing text files/documents since it achieves the best compression there (better than standard LZMA in 7z).

@cyberblob: I don’t know where you got IE out of explore.exe… This problem still exists but is very rare. shoe posted an image of buffer overflow of Internet Explorer…which got this thread back from dead. In any case, Buffer Overflows do happen all the time in MS Windows (you can monitor system calls to see how often), problem is that stack based BO’s can be misused, but not heap based. If you find the reason why are you getting it, please let us know. thanks!

What spwolf said :D In addition:- @64bitguy: If I choose (in my browser) to instead save the source .tar.gz file to disk and then open the file, it downloads correctly as a .tar.gz but PowerArchiver fails to see any files in it and all of the menu options regarding extraction are greyed out. If you can provide examples for this it would help. By “open the file” do you mean Start PA and then File… Open Select file in Windows Explorer and “double click” Explorer shell menu (right click) “Open with…” Explorer shell menu (right click) {PowerArchiver} “Extract …” or something else?

These occured using V9.25 (2004) I managed to create number of CRC errors by processing UNIX file paths > 255 characters. Software should check the final file path lengths when doing batch unpack of files. This is particularly important when using the option to preserve directory structure in a folder named after the original archive. Need to warn user if path will be longer than 250 characters. Clearer error message would be helpful. Encountered a corrupt TAR.GZ file, gave a “CRC” error, but program still gave final dialog that said “all files processed correctly”. Clearly not. We need a logging mechanism, including error logs. This is a batch program; I ran something like 1000 archives through it yesterday and 50,000 files.

Yes it is, PPMD is WinZip’s own extension to ZIP format, and PA does not support bzip extension to ZIP format. There is no reason to use these new formats in WZ as they do not provide anything beneficial to the use but destroy and divide ZIP format itself. If you wish for better compression, you can use 7zip which is widely used and can be read by tens of different programs. I am closing this thread. There is an wishlist thread in the wishlist forums about the same topic which you can check out and respond it. thank you,

Hi Claude, you simply have to enable non-unicode support for language you are using, in your language settings @ control panel. This will do the trick. thanks,

Check your advanced installation instructions for more help with registry keys. That should explain quite a bit and you should have gotten it if you have purchased PA 2004. thanks,

@Ricco: Shall PA automatically enable [Make Large ZIP File (over 4 GB)] once it found there are more than 65,555 files to compress? :) no, option is automatically enabled now… pa write 2.04g header if the zip being created ends up less than 4GB or 65,555 files

@PAFuser: what i mean is that if u download an archive in IE and u click run instead of save as, PA will open a blank archive. is there a waiting period for the files to show or is this just a bug? edit: this doesnt always happen however i included a pic of when it did: here i tried downloading teh eventid 4226 patch: [image: pa9ud.th.jpg] this is an known Internet Explorer issue. This is why many websites instruct you to download using Save As option. thanks,

@spwolf: if we ever implement plugin support, you will get forum where you can discuss different options/formats. Sorry, but I think you have missed the point. The suggestion is for a new WishList type forum dedicated to the topic of adding new compression formats and plug-in type adaption. Like wishlist, ther is no commitment by conexware beyond “general” forum maintenance. Deleting or closing duplicates/Moving posts fromother fora etc.
