@AmyGrrl: … I really don’t like this and can’t figure out how to turn it off I hate spend an hour renaming all the files. … Couldn’t you just have it not add the ext unless it detected a dupe file with the same name. This is actually the feature I need most when batch zipping - for all filenames, not “just for duplicate filenames”. “Automatic detection” is not a good idea as then I would have to spend hours renaming :D It was previously suggested that this be a configuration option, but there are already so many options …

@eraserhead: Is there anyway to edit or create the *.PAE file for my existing files??? The PAE files are archives that have been encrypted using PA’s encryption tool (AES). So to create - use the “encrypt” option on an existing zip file. You cannot edit the PAE files. Note: they are not used for storing passwords in the “password manager”.

@ivan: Hello! You can test multiple archives from Windows Expolorer. Select multiple archives and choose ‘Test’ from the right-click menu. If the option is not there, turn it on in PowerArchiver -> Options -> Configuration -> Shell Extensions. But this only works for multiple files. No subfolders are scanned hence no files from subfolders will be tested. Thanks for the quick reply, I found a way to test the subdirectories also, but it takes a few steps: In windows XP: go to the directory with all the files and subdirectories, then press F3 to do a search, then enter .zip,.rar, *.exe from there I can highlight all the files and right click and test them all. I hope in the next version of PowerArchiver you put the ability to to recurse through subdirectories.

Just wanted to say HAPPY NEW YEAR from us at ConeXware, Inc. :D While most of us (and hopefully most of you) are resting at their homes, enjoying holidays with their families, we are still working on some new things for our loyal users. Expect new beta’s within next few weeks, and few alphas of completly new product from ConeXware, that we plan to release within few months. Expect few more translations to come within several weeks as well. Long term, we already have long, but still growing list of things we want to implement for PA 2007. As you might already know, we usually start development of next major release in March, so keep your ideas coming to our Wishlist forums - deadline to any major wish would be March of this year. Once again, Happy New Year and get some rest before going back to work or school. PA Team ConeXware, Inc.

If I open an archive and drag&drop files to a folder in windows explorer, it seems so that PA first extract all files into a temp folder and then copy it to the destiny folder. this takes time, wouldn’t it be better if PA directly copy it to the destination folder

@STJ: …I found my answer by unchecking the box under: Options / Configuration / Shell Extensions / Options / Check for self-extracting ZIP,ARJ,ACE,BH,LHA and RAR files… Hi, It is better to use Options / Configuration / Shell Extensions / Menu Items / Compress to… (for archives) ;) So you will be able to extract/open SFX archives with shell extantions… …and compress them… Serhiy

It actually completes the current file before canceling, thus saving your 7zip file from being corrupted. There will be another update to the 7zip engine this month, maybe that will solve 255% problem, although I did not encounter it myself (and my compressed files are usually around half gig). thanks,

@ACTANO: Hello, i try do deploy the msi installation via Active Directory GPOs. When an Version prior 9.5x is installed, the installation of the 9.51g.msi seems to be succeeded but when start PA its still Version 2004. When i run the msi after this manually on the affected machines, it says PA 2006 is allready installed, and give the options of repair or uninstallation. The mostly Versions are 9.20 and 9.26. When i install PA 2006 manually via exe or msi, in Softwareinstallation of MS Windows XP, the entries of PA 2004 are still alive. Any suggestions? Is an real upgrade via msi switches possible?!? best regards, Henry Gerloff Hi, Please contact us via support link above, and we will continue this conversation over email for faster response. thanks!

ok, i manually edited the pbs file, and it works now. so it seems to be a bug related to the backup express interface unable to edit the pbs file correctly. i’ll do all future pbs jobs now with a simple plain text editor. no hassle any more :)

i was only trying to state that this can cause problems but is possible to an extent and that extent is windows limitations. It not related to the format but the author has to add support for each format separatly in order to have this feature.

@goaley45: I have a 32MB .WMA dictation file that I’d like to compress, being its way to large to send by email. Power Archiver barely compressed it. Any ideas of what to do or another utility that might help? WMA is already compressed wav file. So it can not be compressed any better via PA. You can change your “dictation” program settings probably so it produces smaller file, but at the expense of quality.

I had to check/tick this option in the configuration, to get it to work: Miscell | General | use normal relative path I would have thought that option would not have been changed with the new version installation, unless it is a new option, and now required to get the top level pathname in an archive ?? Anyway, the pathname ‘public_html’ is in the archive pathname now, for all files. Peter
