From the PowerArchiver help file: The Virus Scan operation performs the following actions: 1. Creates a temporary folder 2. Extracts all files in the current archive to the temporary folder 3. Runs the virus scanner against files in the temporary folder 4. Deletes all files in the temporary folder and removes the temporary folder So you use Kaspersky Anti-Virus from the command-line to scan the current directory: avp.com scan "%CD%"

can you send us that .pbs file? Either to support at conexware . com, or attach it to the forums. Epassword is new password which is encrypted. Password is previous password that was used in earlier versions and is not encrypted. thanks,

Not sure what the problem is, but I just noticed that I cannot copy/paste or drag n drop a file into an existing archive. If I attempt to copy/paste, it doesn’t present the “paste” option in the context menu. If I try and drag a file to the archive, it simply sets the file beside the archive. I am not presented with any errors or dialog boxes while doing either of these. Using PA most recent with XP Pro SP2. I got it working by re-installing PA. If there was something I could’ve done different, it would be useful to know :)

I want to write a backup script that includes files with suffix .sas but not with suffix .sas7bdat . When I use the filter *.sas it includes both of them. I’ve tried various combinations of quotes but can’t get anything to work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

@greeny: Hi guys, I also complained about this a long time ago and with the new update v9.63.02 found that some of the files in use are added to ZIP correctly when highlighted and Right Mouse button-> Compress with Options is performed :) However some files are skipped when using the Drag-and-drop in PA or using the PA graphical user interface to Add to a new archive  What is the difference ? there shouldnt be any difference, it was never added.

Thanks for the reply. I’m looking for an encryption method. I think I can do it with a script that calls PACL.

@jamesday67: For a test I encrypted a .mdb access database file and it worked I was able to encrypt the file without extracting the files…. So it just password protected the database it seems… well is it an active database or are you backing it up? For backup purposes, yes, you can do it. However, if this is an active database that has to be accessed as .mdb file in realtime, then you cant used PA and you should use either MS Access encryption or some encryption tool that tries to transparently handle this. If you need really secure solution, then you should use database that already had safe encryption built in. thanks,

If you are usign Outlook, you could use our plugin, which has an feature than renames last letter of the extension, so mail servers would not block it. It also supports creating SFX’s.

@noobian: Funny that you mention this. After discovering this behavior in powerarchiver, I went into my other archivers (7-zip, WinRAR) and guess what? Same type of behavior in them with the formats that support the password field in their app! That made me suspect that this might be a problem with the underlying routines, and not the specific application. I hope it can be fixed soon. I’ve already informed WinRAR of the problem. Haven’t informed the 7-zip devs yet. Just got tired of typing ;) And, yes this is a bug. Under no circumstances should an archiver corrupt an existing file, not to mention simply because the user enters the wrong password when trying to decompress a password protected archive into a directory that already contains a file with the same name. Thanks for the responses. yes, because we all use same 7zip engine, so same problem. Another problem is - even if we start using temp folder, how many people will turn it off because it is slower? Because if you use current folder as temp option, it will always do this, it simply does not know that it failed before it extracts it. And if current folder is temp, then it will always overwrite file (with overwrite warning). And again, it does show you the overwrite window, problem is that nobody cares about overwrite windows, people just click on Yes within same second it appeared :-).
