it contains only unreadable caracters (seen with Notepad.exe), whereas the German file PASHELL_G.PLF contains readable German strings yes I rebooted several times, tried to check/uncheck “use shell extensions” in the options of PA and selected French/English several times in the langage choice I also tried to replace the French file with the German one to see if I could start with it and then edit the file; it didn’t work I guess the content is copied somewhere at installation? and probably overwrites the initial English strings, as there is no PASHELL_EN.PLF file… thank you for your help

Hi, You will need to contact the following: If Vista came Pre-installed, then you would contact the system vendor. If you purchased an OEM version of Vista not with a PC then you cannot contact anyone for support. However, you can try the Microsoft Forums and Community Message Boards for User-To-User support. If you were refering to the .dmp files created on error, try attaching them here, or emailing to me at the email in my profile, and I will see if I can help you by reading it and see what is causing problems. Thanks, Andrew Robinson.
  • PA1001 BUG: PA clobbers Windows 'Transition Effects' settings

OS: Windows 2000 SP4 with all current updates PA: PowerArchiver 2007 10.01 Problem: When PowerArchiver is run with the Classic theme, the Windows “Use transition effects for windows and tooltips” (Display control panel, Effects tab) is disabled. This means that when the Taskbar is set to “auto hide”, it snaps straight up instead of ‘scrolling’ up from the bottom of the screen. As far as I can tell, there is no valid reason for PowerArchiver to be changing this setting, much less changing it without asking. Reverting to PA 9.64 stops this behaviour, so I am led to think this may be an issue with the new theme engine. Steps to reproduce: Set Taskbar to Auto Hide (R-click taskbar, Properties, check Auto Hide box) Set transition effects to ‘Fade’ (Display control panel, Effects, Use Transition Effects for Windows and Tooltips enabled and ‘Fade’ selected from adjacent dropdown) Note that the taskbar ‘scrolls’ up into view when the mouse is moved to the bottom of the screen Run PowerArchiver, set skin to “Classic” Note that the taskbar now ‘snaps’ up instead of scrolling Quit PowerArchiver Note that the taskbar still ‘snaps’ Open Display control panel, Effects tab Note that the Transition Effects have now been partially disabled. Thanks, Phil.

@chp: Would like to know how to set zip file a password protected? Using PowerArchiver, under “options / Zip Encryption” @chp: How it will work in DOS batch file? This would have to be using PACL - so option ‘s’ or ‘e’; see manual.txt

: are they still associated? When you doubleclick on the zip file, does it open in PA? Well, most were associated. The ZIP extension though… maintained the association with the Windows default, meaning when I double-clicked upon a .zip file in Explorer, Explorer opened the file. I could have fixed that by going directly into the registry, but I fixed it instead by clicking upon Tools, Folders Options… then selecting the File Types tab, then scrolling down to the .ZIP extension, and clicking upon the Change button. That’s corrected now, but I noticed that many of the File Types listed there do not expose the Delete button any longer when I highlight them. If you can duplicate the problem by deleting the extensions, and confirming the problem that would be helpful to me, and possibly to you, but if can’t duplicate the problem, then there must be something goofy going on with this particular machine and I’ll have to live with it until I figure out what’s going on. : p.s. is there an reason for not rebooting your system, server or something? Yes, it’s a server, and rebooting doesn’t fix things and it ends up as a waste of time as the boot time takes awhile. I took a look at what was going on with Windows Registry API (using Rohitab’s API monitor) and noticed that after changing one of the items via the Change button under the Explorer File Types tab, Explorer then re-reads the keys that were changed. The calls work as follows… RegCreateKeyExW, “.01\OpenWithProgids” RegSetValueExW, “PARAR” RegOpenKeyExW, “.01\OpenWithProgids” RegCreateKeyExW, hKey:0x80000001, “Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts.01\OpenWithList” RegOpenKeyExW, hKey:0x80000000, “.01” RegQueryValueExW… There’s alot more going on but it appears that after the key gets set, it gets closed, then reopened, then requeried, and there’s a heck of alot of enumerating going on as well, but I believe it’s the fact that after the key is updated, it’s then re-queried. I didn’t check what’s going on inside PowerArchiver, I figured you guys already know what’s up there. ;-) Jim Carlock

Spywolf, I fully agree with you regards punishment! One area i do not understand about UK’s legal system is why the Tax payer should feed, clothe and give someone a place to live for 20+ to life for Killing someone! However, I wouldnt follow the american way for letting kids have guns! because were allready having that problem in manchester, birmingham and London and guns arnt even legal here! “curruption of the clases!”
