glad it works now, but the problem with cab is due to Windows version itself. It seems that Window’s cab dll is registered in the system and takes over.

We will have to investigate better if we can force usage of version of cab.dll that works.

You have extract the cab support then recompress then click next on setup then when you do you see that error on it :).

in main interface, it will show an icon in status bar and open the comment.

It is not really meant to do anything more than that. It depends on how archiver implemented it, and most do the same thing as we.

p.s. We never got the email your forwarded - i later on found it in spam box. It was garbled because of your Eudora not supporting unicode email text. It is only email client that was widely used and not supporting the unicode. I know because i used it before as well :-).

Hello, I attempted to reproduce this by including the Unicode #017A character in a filename and creating an backup archive via WinRar 5.00
Tested in latest PowerArchiver and it worked fine.

right now it is not possible

if you actually look at the changes some have been added to enhance pa. if pa was not developed you then wouldnt be able to open some zip files or rar files. if you look at pa they fix problems, that occurr with different versions of windows. what i’m stating is that pa actually fix bugs and make sure you actually can work with archives in the knowledge that you wont loose your precious data. if you take the com,petition some dont fix bugs they blame it on other s9oftware. be lucky pa actually do something.

it seems it only ignores root of the library…if you go down one folder, it seems to work fine.

i can tell you this has been already fixed in PA 2014, but that wont be out that soon… i will see if it is possible to do the same for current 2013 build (might not be).

if that doesnt fix it, you can simply delete all the language files from pa folder.

I have attached a screenshot showing what to select in the backup configuration in order for it to appear fully.
In the dropdown shown, Minimized is selected by defauly, So, simply select “Normal” and the backup will appear when selecting Run.

I can mount a virtual drive just fine.

And I can unmount it from the system tray. No problem.

However, the “Unmount virtual drive” from within the Windows shell does not work. I DO get a message near the tray saying that the drive is unmounted. However, the drive still shows as an active drive within Windows explorer.

So the problem I have is just with the shell option.

I will check it out on monday… shouldnt be out of date. For encryption, 7zip SFX works the best. There are several different SFX formats supported: zip, 7zip, cab.

LZMA2 was developed to take advantage of multiple cores. It is MUCH faster than LZMA with more cores. What computer these days don’t have multiple cores? Heck, even my phone has more cores than what PA can handle without crashing.

So it isn’t as fast as WinRar 5 when dealing with rar files, everything blows it out of the water with 7zip files and you are still developing for machines made 10 years ago. PA is spending too much time trying to make the application look pretty but going backwards with what goes on with the actual compression. Yeah, I think it is time to move on

as I mentioned before, 7zip dll crashes when LZMA2 is used on multicore inside PA. It is not like we dont want it to be multicore, but we have to work around it. There is no going backwards, it never worked properly with LZMA2.

So right now, if you are only using LZMA2, then PA is not a good choice. For everything else, PA is excellent choice, probably the best even if I am biased to say so.

Hopefully this gets solved in next major update since we are moving to new version of programming toolset that should be more compatible with dll’s that might cause problems, but it requires rework of everything we have in PA so far. It is big undertaking that we started last year and it requires a lot of testing to make sure everything works properly.

I stumbled on a solution. After brief tinkering, (a) “test” appeared in the main shell menu, and b) I could run test immediately, just after selecting the archive, just as it has always done before.

The problem - unfortunately - is that I am not 100% sure what I did. I was tinkering with adding and deleting several other items in the shell extensions menus. (I thought tinkering with the menus might yield a result.)

I THINK this is what I did:
Under compression:
1. removed compress to RAR

Under extraction:
1. ended up with “extract archive to” and “extract archive here.” I either had one but not the other; on even took one off and added it back on.

In any event, shazzam: test showed up and worked correctly, both in explorer shell AND in right clicking within the PA window. It did NOT take to me to the PA windows or require me to actually open the archive. Just selecting it was enough.

If you want, I can send you the new registry keys, and you can compare them with the one I sent this morning. Perhaps you can isolate the exact difference.

yeah, it is unofficial release so no log as usual.

We had to do it because of translations - in languages such as German and French, almost every word on the toolbar was 1-2 characters longer so in Extract mode, everything would shrink down to 16x16 icons in default width… so we arranged these into the Tools icon to make it all fit nicer and be a bit cleaner.

See I knew there would be a good reason for it. ;)

ok, so this update is live for everyone (.20)… it is also different from your’s guido… but nothing related to SkyDrive or clouds…

Yup works now, the program paused for about 10 seconds, then the list was filled, extracted all those archives just fine too. You rock as usual.

it was flood attack on the patchbeam server, our admins “fixed” it, so it back to fast now.

Patchbeam Debug works only for the patchbeam update process, not check, as they are separate… it creates the file in C:\ once you enable it (and once update starts, again not check).

we will see once we start work on “real” AC… then we can troubleshoot it thoroughly.

its there in case there are extensions that are not recognized by PA but are still compressed file - for instance there is at least a hundred extensions that use ZIP format but are named differently… this is why we included this option.

By the way, could you make some of your program windows’ re-sizable? Mainly the ones related to “Archive Converter…” and “Batch Archive Creation…”.

I’ve installed the latest BETA (version 14.00.17) and the issue persists.
How can I send you a debug log?

maybe restart your computer? installer itself is the same as before.

I installed over the top and the install program deletes the older version.

Still having problems with the driver letter being assigned to a virtual drive when an image is mounted. It looks like the driver for virtual drive fails. Please see screenshots. The installing driver window was present for well over a minute.

I manually installed the Starport drivers and updated them to the latest version. They appear to be installed okay but there is no virtual DVD-ROM showing as a result (further screenshot added).

I can work around this issue (I have Virtual CloneDrive installed and working) but do not like to let computers win ;).

This time it took 20 minutes to extract a 5 part 3.5G rar file. It actually hung at 59% for about 8 minutes. I went into the task manager and disabled everything Java related and it immediately started moving much quicker. That tells me that there is some kind of conflict between Java and PA. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have made the big difference it did in the extraction time. The same has held true with any lengthy extraction. Disable all Java related programs and the extraction is quick whereas if they (Java programs) are running the extraction moves very slowly. It has nothing to do with hard drive access as the files being extracted are on a completely physically separate hard drive. This is really getting frustrating to say the least. I actually had time to go to the gas station 2½ miles away, pay the attendant, fill up my tank and return home before the 3.5G extraction mentioned above was close to completion. In fact, it only moved from 18% to 59% in that time - about 13 minutes.

PA does not use Java in any way… did you try to reinstall Java on your computer? It is obviously somehow slowing it down… I have no idea why would that be as We dont interact with it… I have Java installed as well and it is not causing any issues.

i see you already emailed support so that should be enough, I am not sure if they had time to write this up for PACL yet…

We got few people complain before that were not actual users of PA, just ppl who wanted link backs to their sites via profiles… PA.com has high PR rating on google so it is beneficial to do that. So they would come in with 1 post and ask why they cant edit profile.

We use one of the most popular forum software out there and all the security addons there are, and everyone basically has same issues… most “solve” them by manually approving users which I think would be extremely annoying - because you would have to wait to post your question.

In any case, we are always on forums, on support ticket system, on phone support or on web chat on your bottom right. We try to provide support in every way possible.

Many forums closed due to all the spam, it has became crazy in past 2-3 years because they break any automated verification system within minutes.

Given that, you might want to just use “Rijndeal” in all instances . . . or none at all. The fact that PA has it listed differently could be confusing.

We are using Microsoft FIPS certified encryption modules (RSAENH via Microsoft CryptoAPI), depending on version of Windows used.

Thats certification for Windows 7 specifically. For every Windows OS, there are different certificates, let me know if you need specific one - its supported from Windows 2003 Server to XP, Vista, 7 and Windows Server 2008. Same is used by Window’s components, and plenty of other applications - for instance Secure ZIP (which is only other zip program I know is certified).

Ya Like I said it’s weird bug on my system that all. Windows 7 works great windows 8 not so good with cab support compress.

Well our d&d is built in mind for explorer, so TerraCopy should mirror whatever Explorer does, but we will check it out and see if we can fix it from our side as PA 2013 is coming to beta very soon.

and recommend PA to your company as well… thats where a lot of our business comes from. PA is only compression utility that has phone support, as well as email and web chat. We are also only one of above with security certificates that allows for US Govt to buy our software - with fips 140-2 aes certification. WinZip, WinRar or 7zip can not be used by US Govt institutions due to data protection laws.

The PRO version does does allow you to burn files to disc, but the burn disc as ISO option is available in the Toolbox version only.
I guess if you have the PRO version it should not show you the option to “burn disc from ISO”
I’ll log that in so it does not show anymore for the PRO version.

Worked fine, starts as usual.
I noticed that the startup time was very slow when Eset was doing it’s Quick Scan.
Is it possible that a quick scan or any scan was being performed at the time of your attempted start of PowerArchiver?

Go ahead and send over your reg settings (zipped) to support and I can take a look while I still have Eset installed.
And try to reproduce with your exact settings.

just tried this with Avast version 8.0.1483(latest from their site)
and PowerArchiver started fine, as it did prior to Avast installation.

can you try updating to that latest version and see if it still happens?

Early I mentioned the wrong date on notification for downloads.

There is a second ZTE oddity.

For (virtually?) every I send via ZTE I receive two notices that it has been downloaded, even though I sent it to only one person. Now I am sure that someone may have tried twice. However, it seems unlikely that all did.

Not sure what would cause that. But I thought it worth mentioning.
