@Keith: Will there be an RC3 before the final? I’m using PowerArchiver 2010 RC2 even though it’s considered beta because of problems with PowerArchiver 2009 related to self-extracting cab files causing explorer to hang until it finishes searching to the end of the file and it takes an excessively long time if the files are stored on a CD or DVD. that will never get solved, you know the reason, you know the solution. So it will be same in PA 2010, as you know.

@spwolf: we had complaints from people with poor eyesight that it was hard to drag original border, hence the increase for PA 2010. The border looks so much nicer in Vista and Win7. Cheers DrT

@JXBlack: Thanks for your reply. Please tell me what to do when the PA windows opens. All I want is for it to place the incoming file intact (zipped) at some place that I can find it> please look at my reply above. Your Firefox is not configured properly, you need to solve this in Firefox. PA has nothing to do with it. Firefox is not saving your file, it is sending it to temp folder and opening it in PA.

This is because by default 32-bit programs cannot access the real system32 directory (which holds 64-bit binaries on a Win64 system). There are some APIs that will let a 32-bit program override this default, but that will require the PA developers to work to add specific support for this (which I think they should probably do, but I certainly can’t speak for them). However, I just recently learned that you can manually override this behavior by having the 32-bit program navigate to the \Windows\SysNative directory - this is a link to the true, 64-bit system32 directory that doesn’t get redirected to SysWOW64. See here for details on why and how this all works (also with a pointer to APIs if the PA team is interested in baking this support into the program): http://www.nynaeve.net/?p=133

PAOP currently does not support unicode, although this is planned once PA 2010 is release. Do you have portuguese as language for non-unicode programs under Regional and Language in Control Panel?

@steje: Why… won’t v2010 just compress it at 998 kb - LOL ? But seriously, can anyone say if there was perhaps a ‘change’ in 2009 from 2007 that might otherwise be intended to result in “better” compression in other cases / byte patterns etc that just happens to NOT work out so well in THIS case? we changed/updated engines between all these versions… PA 2010 has our latest engine, so if you want to make any comparos thats where to look.

keep in mind that in PA, you can select various compression strenghts for optimized, and Ultra/Max are very different from Normal…
