    • Optimize archive on Context Menu

      W

I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.

Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption

    • Highlighting files and folders in Add modes

      PA_Fan

I prefer to use light themes, and when, for example, I have set up my main archive screen to be Classic Toolbar with Blizzard Blue, files in the archive are highlighted (no checkboxes, full row select) with white text on grey background. They are easy to see .

However, in the Add screens, the files and folders are black type upon a pale blue background, which is not so readily visible, especially when highlighting separate files in lists with Ctrl/Click for addition. It would be ideal if the backgrounds to files in these screens could be set to mimic the highlighting of those in the main archive window.

I have tried experimenting with different themes and settings for skins, toolbars and so forth, but, unless I’ve missed something, none seem to give me the effect I want.

Re: Windows 11 Context menu support

It would really make me happy if you put .BH in the Windows 11 context menu. I know it’s in the “More Options” section, but this would make it more convenient. Don’t know why the option to add it to the menu isn’t there in the first place. P-L-E-A-S-E ??? :) Thanks You!

Now that the Windows Store is making support for non-UWP apps mainstream, including those with their own update delivery process, it would be nice to see PowerArchiver in the Windows Store going forwards - at least as a channel for the product to be available.

In Windows 11 a new explorer context menu is introduced.
The “old” context menu may still be accessed through an additional mouse click, to reach the PowerArchiver context menu functions, but this isn’t comfortable at all.

Could you add PowerArchiver items to the first level (and ideally disable the Windows native ZIP entry)

    • Better handling for protected archives

      BigMike

      Hi,

I’d like to propose an improvement for password protected archives.

      Actual behavior is:
If I open an archive, which is password protected and make a typo in the password dialog, I’ll get the message, that the password was wrong and I end up with an empty window. I need to reopen the archive to be able to enter the password again.

      Improved behavior:
Tell me, that the password was wrong and give me the chance to enter the correct password to decrypt the archive.

    • ZIPX: Add support for packing JPEG with specialized algorithm

      A

      Hello!
I know I have been asking for this feature some time ago, but as nothing has changed let me ask again:
The ZIPX-format offers an algorithm, that compresses JPEG-files by about 20-30%. Please add compression (packing) support for this in ZIPX-archives to Powerarchiver. Extraction of JPEGs packed into ZIPX by this algorithm is already supported by Powerarchiver for a long time, so it should not be difficult? Or is it a licensing problem?
      Thanks!

    • Better archive type handling with drag & drop

      BigMike

      Hi,

I’d like to suggest, that the correct archive type is (always) selected, when adding files by drag & drop to an archive.

This is already happening if the archive has the correct extension. For example, if I’m adding files to test.zip, zip will be selected. If I’m adding files to test.7z, 7z will be selected as format in “Add dialog”.

But this won’t be working, if the archive has not the “right” extension.
So XPI files (Firefox addons) for example are ZIP files. PowerArchiver opens them without any problems, but if I try to add file by drag & drop, PowerArchiver won’t auto select “ZIP”, but use the last selected archive format, while PowerArchiver already knows, that I’m trying to add files to a ZIP.

I tried to search this forum, but couldn’t find anything related to my question so i’m sorry if it already been covered and i missed it.

I would like to be able to add two context menu entries for creating zip/zipx files. One that says: Compress to “something.zip” (for the compatible .zip format).
The other should be: Compress to “something.zipx” (for the optimized .zipx format). Is this possible to have both entries? So far i have only found the option to have either zip or zipx since i cannot find a way to have more then one entry for the zip/zipx format on the context menu.

Even better would have been the ability to create custom context menu entries like when using Winrar. Then i could have created as many context entries that i want, with custom names and customize each of them just the way i prefer. I assume this is currently not possible either or did i completely miss this feature as well?

Since i cannot have both zip and zipx as context menu entries at the same time i have the compatible zip format as default so i have the options Compress to “something.zip” on the context menu. Then i created a profile for zipx as well and when i want to create a zipx file i’ll select Compress with options… on the context menu and then select the profile i created for creating zipx files. When i select the profile i created for creating zipx files the method change to “Optimized (.zipx)” in the GUI which is correct, but the file created still have the extention .zip. Shouldn’t the file have the extention .zipx in this case? If i select Compress with options… and select .zipx in the method dropdown box instead of selecting the profile i created (that actually do the same thing) then it seems to work fine and the file created have the .zipx extention. Not sure if this is by design or a bug, but if by design i find that design hard to understand.

I’ve wanted the ability to use custom profiles on the context menu for some time but the team said it was too complicated to do so.

I didn’t know, but i hope they will reconsider adding this feature even if it’s complicated. Winrar added this feature in version 3.80 and i think that’s one of the greatest enhancement in the recent past for this kind of program. I just create the profiles i need and add those to the context menu and it’s customized just the way i want it to be. Would have been awesome to see this feature in PA as well.

I couldn’t agree more…there’s probably only a handful of additional profile options I’d use/need in the context menu but I’d see it as a huge bonus.

it is simple if we do it quick and it is complicated if we take in account all of the features that PA has…

… adding additional .zipx which you can then configure with compression profiles is not complicated at all.

I don’t know what the sourcecode of PA look’s like and how it’s done so might be harder to implement than what i think it is, but the way i see it then the custom context menu entry should be linked to a profile. So you have to create a profile and give it a name. Then choose that the profile should be shown as a entry in the context menu.

The feature to create custom profiles is already implemented in PA so the next part would be a feature to select that the profile name should be shown on the context menu. When selecting some files/folder, rightclick and choose a entry from the context menu then PA should compress using the settings from the profile.
It would have also been nice with a setting for the profile to choose if the compression should start immediately or if the compression dialog should be shown before the compression start. The dialog box should in this case be shown with the right settings for the profile already set, but give you the option to change some settings like the filename that i prefer to set manually in most cases.

As i said it might be harder to implement than i’m aware of, but sounds doable:)

Anyway a extra setting for zipx would be very nice, but the option to create custom context menu entries would be great so i hope this will be considered for a future version. I think that would be a great enhancement for a new major version of PA somewhere in the future.
