Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)
I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.
Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption

it would be very nice if we could say back up a file automatically rather than clicking on the script or run from within pa. I would like it to backup the file for instance every so oftern. without user intervention to make this happen. so it is a total automated backup. Basically a tool to schedual the backup.

Hi David,
You can use Windows Scheduled Tasks screen to provided that function for PA Backup files.
But I can understand where you are coming from with regards to a built in funtion for PA that automates it.
Maybe its something for a future release as for such a script to work it would need to run in the background possibly using PA Starter.

THE PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS TASK MANAGER IS THAT IT HAS TO CALL POWERARCHIVER TO WORK, WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR WAS A WAY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN WITHOUT INTERVENTION OF OTHER SOFTWARE. , THIS WOULD MAKE IT EASIER AND QUICKER. aS PA SAID IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC, I RIGHTLY ASSUMED IT COULD START IT SELF BUT IT NEEDS USER INTERVENTION TO WORK. tHE TASK MANAGER CAN ONLY WORK ON EXE FILES AND AS PA’S BACKUP SCRIPT IS NOT THAT IT WILL NOT WORK THATS WHY PA MUCT ADD THIS FEATURE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT AN IDEA TOOL FOR BACKING UP FILES IN COMPRESSED FORMAT AUTOMATICALLY.

scheduling .pbs file will work great in Windows Scheduler… it is explained to the detail in the help, so please check it out…

it does solve one problem. However it does not solve the problem of over writting the file. I mean so it can create a new file with say temp01 and then one temp02 and tem03 each time it does a backup, so it doesn’t over right the first backup. It does not shutdown the computer when the backup is complete.

Sure… you can set it to use existing filename or to create new one… it is one of the pbs settings…
And of course, you can shutdown windows via taskscheduler as well.
There is no reason to have additional application doing things that Task Scheduler is already doing.
