Plugin System
-
I have been researching PowerArchiver to see if it would fit my needs, and have seen many great reviews. I am especially interested in your plugin system, as I use several obscure archivers for which there are TC plugins.
I am, however, having a hard time finding info about your plugin system. Is there any documentation about the use of plugins in PA? From the info I have found, some plugins work and some do not, is there any way besides trial and error to determine what type of plugins will work (Multiarc for example)? I have seen the admin on here suggest to a user to write a plugin, but then give no direction or docs as to the format for PowerArchiver plugins. Since TotalCommander plugins do not work all the time, it might well be a waste of time to write a plugin using that format. If a plugin does work, does it just allow viewing or can you compress and extract as well. Does the plugin functionality extend to the context menu?
Sorry for the mismash of questions, but the plugin feature really needs better explanation. I would appreciate any info.
Thanks,

PA is able to use the “packer” plug-ins from TC (wcx format).
Sorry, but I know nothing about actually creating them :(With the plug-in installed (and file type/format assigned) then the archive files appear as if “natively supported” within the limits of the format (and plug-in). So if that supports viewing, compression, extraction - then so will PA (GUI).

Thanks,
HookEm!packer (extract only) and viewer plugins should always work, unless they use undocumented features… If they dont, someone needs to report it in and we will take an look and fix the issue.
Viewer plugins work in preview window and internal viewer, while packer plugins work if you open archive inside PowerArchiver (via Open button)… PowerArchiver will not associate itself with any of those supported formats, as in many cases it would be impractical to do so (for instance, with MSI or CHM plugins).
If you want more features, Wishlist forums is best place for that…
thanks

We already know that is there but nfor people who can’t understand why all total commander plugins don’t work i thought it would be nice to have a program or more advice on how to create powerarchiver plugins.
Not all plugins work for both powerarchiver and total commander.
we should have a program that helps you create plugins.
There should be plugin contests and a way for people to make money on plugins as some do with total commander
