PA Live Archive Facility

As many of you are aware, PA Offers some ability to zip, open and save current compressed documents such as Excel. However, there are experiences that unless you save twice it doesn’t update the Temp folder correctly therefore the zip archive doesn’t recognize the change.
Also I have tested this same process with Word Documents and it doesn’t update.
PA You have made a top notch application! no questions about that! But is it possible you can work on an improved Live Archive that allows users to zip, open, change and save documents within an archive without having to export.
This would be a fantastic feature as users would be able to keep their files secure & compressed while making changes.

I dont quite understand - what exactly is the wish for?
The way Excel works, no matter where we store the .xls file, it will always use separate temp file on the hard drive.

If excel is creating a random temp file due to it opening and saving from a compressed source,
You could add the option to PA That when creating an archive you have a tick box named for example “PALive” when selected this would instruct PA on opening a zip to export the contents to a source on the harddrive and when selecting the file it opens it from the folder created therefore “live” when saving and closing that file and on the closing of PA your program would detect any changes in that folder and move/replace them in the archive.
Saving a user from Manualy draging file from zip to folder working on file and saving it then draging it back into zip.

Thats what it does already, exactly :-).
Excel always uses temp file. It doesnt know or care that you are using PowerArchiver.

Do you think if there is any other way amending it so when users are opening a file from PA and make changes it will update the archive.
Or is this a problem that wont get fixed until Microsoft Decide to change the way their office applications save?

we are making some special provisions in PA 2007 to work around that. It is really specific to Office due to the way they handle saving of the files (which is not when you click save).
In excel, all you have to do is wait for 2-3 seconds beforing confirming the update in PA, and it will ask you for update again (which is true update).

Well I can but wait till PA 2007! and hope that those improvments will reflect.
Understand the delay in excel as i use it on a very regular basis. However, my main enquiry was regarding any office application.

for instance, with Word, you have to quit word and it will save the file. So it depends on specific application.
As to PA 2007, should be soon, no specific dates as usually it always gets delayed for whatever reason…
