That is a completely pointless test, you invalidated any comparable results by using different compression methods and compressing different files.

Use the exact same file set, and the same compression settings for whatever compression algorithm that you choose to use (zip, 7zip, rar etc.)

Only then will you have results that you can use to compare both products. What you did just there is take an apple and compare it to an orange and ask us why they are so different. (It’s because they are different)

you shouldnt try to surf the web from inside PA help… i dont think IE allows everything inside help hence it might not allow all plugins.

can I assume it’s all to do with the ‘makeup’ of how winrar creates it’s encrypted files?
when I use the same encryption method in PA (PAE) it at least removes the ‘empty’ folder after an incorrect password has been used.

No, centered over PA is great, just nudged to ensure that the entire window is on the current monitor.

It’s a very minor thing to me, and if it’s more trouble than its worth to fix, I’d rather see the current behavior over any other.

There’s some weird bugs in Beta 3 with the Shell Extension when the Queue is enabled.

Here’s repro steps:

1. Right click on folder in Explorer
2. Select Compress to … + Options in context menu.
3. Select CAB as archive type.
4. Set Method to LZX
5. Make sure “Add to Queue” is checked.
6. Click “Add.”

The resulting archive file is using MsZIP compression, not LZX. If you follow the same steps only uncheck “Add to Queue”, then the resulting archive is LZX packed.

I’m not sure if this affects other archive types or not, I haven’t tested further.

Another bug I ran into while dorking around with the details on this one is as follows:

1. Start with an empty folder (foo).
2. Create a subfolder (bar). Toss some files in.
3. Right-click on bar, select Compress to … + Options
4. Make sure archive type is CAB.
5. Click Add.

Everything’s fine so far. In foo, you have a folder bar, and a file bar.cab.

Now to make it go pear-shaped.

1. Right-click on bar again, select Compress to … + Options
2. Make sure Archive type is CAB.
3. Make sure Add to Queue is checked.
4. Change the archive name. (e.g. grah.cab)
5. Click Add.
6. Proceed to be greeted by a prompt asking you to overwrite bar.cab.

It gets weirder.

7. Click “Yes.”

bar.cab gets deleted, and grah.cab is created.

This bug happened with CAB files for me, but not 7-Zip. I don’t know if other archive types are affected or not.

All happening in XP SP 3, Beta 3 installed on top of Beta 2.

I have a archive that takes ages to extract. WR also has this problem.

I have a archive that doesn’t show current file.

or it could be corrupted if it was stored on cd/dvd media especially.

Yes, you are wrong ;) . As TBGBe said, PA2010 is saving previously used Folders and the Submenu can’t be removed in the Settings.

Just for clarification :
The QAT was present after performing the upgrade; and after uninstalling / reinstalling.
It disappears after the skin switch (Modern / Classic / Modern) and stays gone after further switches and restarts.
I can’t find a way to make it reappear except for uninstalling / reinstalling.

yeah, dialogue above is basically just due to win7 build and should be fixed by them, it is just an glitch that doesnt affect anything…

by the time Win7 is released, PA is actually going to be tested by Win7 Q&A team against final build to make sure all of their issues are fixed.

spwolf, maybe you should combine both. selecting the files you want to backup with checkboxes and finally generating a script you can reuse everytime. would be more easy to use. :D

we use PAOP on 4-5 different versions of Office, including Office 2007 on my computer…

In one day Outlook 2007 hangs and says, what 2 dll (it PAO) must be disabled ( in window on screenshot)

Now Outlook windows is empty, as I delete bugged PAO

does that still happen in PA 2010? Did you try your backup in PA 2010?

It is indeed an oversight (as much as I am aware off), only difference should be location of the temp drive, and you can force that via Config> Misc> Use current folder as temp. See if that helps.

There is one inconsistency. I have used both Exout and Outex before, so I have them available from the Add folder dropdown. When I do the second add to Exout, I select it and my chosen folder appears as OUTEX. When I go back again and select Exout again, I then get both folders in my add list, from which I remove Outex. Thereafter the Move removes Exout!

so basically first time same folder is added, ok we will check it out.

as to the folder - you are moving folder, and many people complained before that if folder is being moved, it shouldnt be there anymore just like when you do it in explorer.

I personally dont like folders being moved or I actually dont like moving of anything because some kind of error might happen and then what.

I have tried many situations to reproduce this but could not, we simply need more information. I have tried compressing 200,000 files and 80 GB of data and backup worked fine.

we found some situations where there would be double the copying, and we made sure that does not happen now.

so it is still compressing and then splitting, but it might be faster for you now.

Hi, I’ve been trying to create a Zip SFX thus far.

Hi, just a word to tell you that I’ve been able to repair my installation of PA by removing it, removing Daemon Tools Lite (DTL) and then reinstalling PA but without reinstalling DTL first (reinstalling it only after PA).

Trying to repair or to reinstall PA while DTL was still installed didn’t make the cut.

However, I’m wondering if the next time I upgrade PA, I will have to remove DTL again or not. :cool:

it only happened to me if I tried to drag from PA browser window to desktop before the image had rendered in the preview window…in all fairness though PA was dealing with pretty large images which took a second or two to display in full.

Also even after a restart this happened only after i decided to unistall and restart delete all reg entries of powerarchiver restart and then install restart did it work. what does that say.

ok… i have logged it in our bug tracking system already, it is just waiting for more time…

check your Control Panel> Regional and Language> Formats, and see if something there could be done differently now from then…

we did some work specifically to make screen readers work better (lots of small things everywhere) and as always, we need more input from people who use screen readers to help us with it…

The problem is only present when Windows Media Encoder v9 is installed. Running Vista x86 SP1 and WMP 11.
