Judging from my overall experience with Opera, I think it would be appropriate to describe IE as a monolithic browser, though Opera is still slightly buggy with its page rendering algorithm (It cannot render mail.yahoo.com correctly). Of course this post is not related to PA at all. Just a tip. :rolleyes:

As mentioned in my previous posts WinZip and some other ZIP archive utilities can handle this file, so while the file may not adhere to the ZIP standard, I would still very much like to see PA handle it (which means the DynaZip library being updated)

We shall see, we are still compiling list of things for them, however they are usually not to keen to support things that outside of standards and any update they do has to be verified by MS team so do not expect anything soon.

You are right. I noticed it too! ;)

that program only recently had that support and it is verry buggy i tested it out and compared it with the 7 zip file manager and it came a way below par. It crashes and makes 7 zip archives that do not suppot full unicode and it only uses the old way of creating 7zip sfx files that is a new way that 7 ziup foile manager has.

Powerarchiver is taking its time to get it right not jsut includ it then sort out the bugs as that program has done well seems to have done.

I will consider this as a wish for future version - so far no changes in final 9.0.

The second issue with duplicate “textfile” folder in archive’s folder will be fixed in next version.

The issue with overwrite dialog will not be fixed because currently our overwrite dialog doesn’t detects existing unicode filenames - as you can see all files are shown as “???.txt” which is same for checking non-unicode existing filenames.

We will take care of this issue for next version - 9.1.

Currently you can only create 7Z SFX archive with 7-ZIP Manager. PowerArchiver only supports extracting 7Z SFX archives.

We shall see if we can add somehow support for creating 7Z SFX archives for future versions. I will talk about this with author of 7-ZIP.

Only one problem - since at least half of the threads in tech support forums are usually not bugs, it would seem to casual observer that PA is full of unsolved bugs :-). Other than that, its good idea. We dont lock threads anymore so users can still contribute to the thread, even if we think issue has been solved.

I voted for ‘other’ since LHA didn’t show up - still have some in-house apps that work with LHA formats.

I remember that previously, when I tested few files that simply did not want to get archived properly with cabinet.dll I found it out to be their dll bug and using newer dll didnt help at all (i very much doubt it is really developed anymore). It simply didnt work with certain files. I will check it out again.

Yesterday I converted a large zip file(195,452 files 1,479,437kb) into a 7zip with maximum compression, over a network share(100mb). Besides taking forever, 6 hours, I noticed that the number of handles were going up alot, 146838 when the conversion was finally done.

After it got done I noticed that there was an update to 9.00.33, I was running 9.00.00. Attached are some screen shots of task manager as well as an error(Failed to set data for ‘MainForm1280x1024Left’) I got when trying to exit powerarchiver.

I noticed there were bug fixes and optimizations in 9.00.33, but I haven’t had the motivation(6 hours) to see if this issue was already addressed.

Since version 8.0 PowerArchiver should work fine with all PC emulation sofware on all platforms - from MAC to PC (Unix/Linux/Windows).

As for Windows emulators I cannot gurantee it should work with all of them (for example WINE) - older versions worked with some of Windows emulators and with some not.

This goes on wishlist for 9.1. Currently Solid compression is turned on by default.

Here is what happends:

WinRAR creates a registry entry for creating empty-RAR file. Then when you start PowerArchiver it associates with RAR files (because PowerArchiver can extract RAR files). So from this moemnt, all RAR files are called “PowerArchiver RAR file” and when you choose “New” -> “PowerArchiver RAR file”, Windows will use ShellNew key created with WinRAR but call it “PowerArchiver RAR file” since .RAR files are associtated with PowerArchiver.

There is nothing we can do here - we cannot create RAR files, but still cannot delete registry keys created by other archive utilties.

If you often create RAR archives, then I would suggest you to disable RAR file assciation by PowerArchiver and re-enable it by WinRAR.

Well, when I checked last, it does (a little bit) - depends on format :D

Graphic jpegs (digital camera) - 10 Files Total 12,600,516 bytes
-> cab 12,564,597
-> bh 12,588,570
-> zip 12,589,310
-> lzh 12,593,241

Whereas rar & ace both increased the total size (real Byte size, ignoring Disk usage).

It will be more better! But you can always find improvements

How else you propose to have PA’s “trial” date start set? It certainly cant be set in main PA’s folder in registry, and this is much better solution than having an file hidden in your Windows subfolders… And of course, by simply uninstalling and installing software, you cant be able to reset it, this is how every piece of commercial software with trial works (leaving an key or file somwhere), except that PA never expires.

I had to use TuneUp to clean my registry and disks after this unprecise and unclean installations!

Seems to work fine in my case. I hovered over not empty 7-ZIP file and I got correct file size. Then I opened this 7-ZIP file, and again get back to Windows Explorer and it also worked.

It can be only if you were extract/compression that 7-ZIP file at the same time, or the 7-ZIP file is corrupted (empty).

In any case, it has nothing to do with us - in this case it is conneced with 7-ZIP DLL.

That was it I was using the .30 version, after uninstalling it and reinstalling the new .31 everything works smooth now.
I thought I was having this problem in version 8 as well(seemed to happen with any zip file, regardless of the filename or format of the file inside when the zip was around 1mb or above) and it would push me away from using it.
Now thats fixed I’ve found my new and only archive utility.

I am curious why install v9.0 over the older version didn’t pick up the registration information automatically, but everything is ok now.

Grids still not working as they should, grids are only drawn for the amount of files in the folder you are viewing. In previous versions the whole window had grids drawn. I find the new method of displaying grids a bit difficult to use.

In Explorer view, can can right click and select the columns to show. Right clicking and selecting the following is not remembered by the program Date Created, Attributes, Owner, Author. I select these items, then close the program and only the following columns are shown: name, Size, Type, Date Modified

when you go to encrytion it tells you how to create pae files not how to create winzip aes compatible files. it only tells you that you can. Anyone not familiar with the program may not know how to do this.

Pae encrytion is better than winzips aes encrption
