PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

Convert archive is incorrect for some WinRAR 5 archives
    W

WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.

I have a minor problem viewing text files in .rar archives.

Usually they show up fine in the preview window, but when I try to view the file in notepad or the internal viewer, it shows as blanks or dots.

Sometimes it works the first time I use the “Associated program” but not if I try to view the same file again.

After trying, even the preview windows shows only dots?

This happens with all kinds of supposed to be text files, .txt, .reg and so on.

Extracting the archive is no problem.

      Using PA pro 11.03.04

I can’t reproduce this effect using rar files I create to test
Is it only with rar archives?
Did you create these rar archives yourself (what options used) or are they downloads (example url)?

P.S. What is your windows version?

So far it’s only with rar files I seen this.

It’s downloaded files only, I use zip normally.

Among others try the Language pack link here

Sorry about the indirect location of the file, haven’t kept the original.

          I’m on Vista SP1.

OK. I can see the problem with the ReadMe.txt in that file!
            Open in GUI
            Preview active - displays OK
View (internal viewer) - Shows as dots
Close viewer - preview now shows dots.

            • just changing font corrects the problem

So it’s not OS specific
Doesn’t seem to be any “strange characters” in the txt file.

Ok Terry, thanks for verifying the bug.
It’s just a little quirk as long it’s extracting correctly.

Seems to be fixed in Beta1. The file displays fine for me. Tested the lang pack.

Same for me - had to re-download lang pack.
Preview and internal viewer both work now (PA 11.50.23).
