Just find it odd. Never started happening until after the early Sept. update.

When running PA and drag and drop a file into it, PA asks me for a filename and often stores it elsewhere, but not in the same folder of the original.

I mostly use the context menu.

But how do I get PA to
a) use the same filename
b) stores the zip file in the same folder

I suspect you have your update set for "check for . . . latest beta and original version. If you just want the latest version, change the selection in the drop down box.

Its on the configuration menu, auto update.

it should work with doubleclick + edit file + save file, and then PA will ask to update file inside archive.

Actually, there is an issue.

Go to the Configuration menu, Shell Extensions.

There are two options: Compression and Extraction.

I assumed that the compression options would determine which context menu options should show if the user clicked on a non-archive; and the extraction option would determine which options should show if I clicked on an archive.

If I am wrong here, please say so . . . but I would have thought that was the natural way to interpret these options.

When I am on a single file (not an archive), and right click, the option to “FTP It” shows up. But that doesn’t even seem to be an option I can select (add to the shell extensions) for Compression in the config menu.

However, since it is there when I click on a non-archive, I assumed it was shorthand for compress and FTP it — since it shows up when I right click on a non-archive.

Using “Beta” “Alpha” are typical stages of development and you have them in every version developed.

And technically we do PowerArchiver - “Profesional”, “Legacy” and “Toolbox”.

Having Version numbers are really helpfull as it can give you an instant idea of the age of the product when you visit the site.

Many ways of doing it. But D&D onto the icon always seemed the easiest.

Which is why I would also like to be able to move or copy depending on which keys I hold down while D&D (which key combinations matters now) — just as move seems the default in Win 7, but holding down the CTRL key while doing it copies the file.

Very simple bug, When the users Minamizes PA to the TRAY before it starts compressing and showing the file, location and percentage complete it displays within the pop up caption “PowerArchiver 2009”.

So it’s just a minor script adjustment somewhere in the code.

We took our time to find this issue and fix it, so nobody should have this happen anymore.

We couldnt reproduce it in our test accounts but someone complained again today via support so our web development guys took few hours to sort through code and find the issue…

The issue is with the automatic issue of drive letters. I found another piece of software that worked similarly to PAs and also used StarPort drivers. I have updated these drivers via windows device manager without any difference. Anybody have any ideas where the upper and lower filter keys for the PA virtual drive are in the registry or even what the drive is called (Rocket, StarPort, PowerArchiver, SPTD)? Restore points will not help, old ones gone as many installs and uninstalls have written new ones.

Not sure :) im the only one with PA as im developer with admin rights and use my own License, Ive been pushing them for years to use PA but they wont buy new licenses until they have rolled out Windows 7 and Office 2010 in two years time.

I can partly see why that one is there. But the others. Also when first selecting the burner ribbon and then when choosing easy interface, the burner ribbon disappears.

Thinking about this while typing. I think it’s pretty useless there (statusbar). If I do this in the ribbon, You do not switch between easy and advanced. You turn on/off Easy Interface.

Using latest PA 2012. Archive was created using Optimized compression, Ultra, Solid archive.

you are using make sfx? maybe send screenshot of options used to the support at conexware dot com.

as to the solid option, we should add a checkbox with it in next release… it really should have nothing to do with any feature.

You could do that with almost any file, but I mainly do it with a PDF portfolio. With a PDF portfolio, you can just drag a file into it. If I am NOT dragging it from another encrypted archive PA correctly asks if I want the FILE within the 2nd Archive updated.

Seems as if (a) I cannot explain this clearly enough, and (b) it probably cannot do what I want done, so I will stick with the workaround. Sorry for the bother.

I did a clean install of PowerArchiver 2012 RC1. Why are there two registry entries called PowerArchiver and PowerArchiverInt in HKCU? The PowerArchiver key only contains General key with value BurnMode=0 and nothing else. When I uninstall PowerArchiver 2012 only the PowerArchiverInt key is removed but the PowerArchiver key still remains.

maybe you have both standard and pro in your account so you clicked on PA 2012 Standard codes? Support can sort it out since they can easily see whats in your account.

As to the update - during the process, we decide when upcoming version is better than old official one and then we put it on update. So you dont have to wait for things like website changes for instance, which official version needs.

generally speaking, mobile OS’s are trying to take out the user from the experience of filesystem and hence you cant use Android as if you are on Windows box, even if you wanted to.

Although save of storage space on mobile phones is probably a lot more important than on desktop. Even on destkop you use archiver for 2 things - exchanging files or backing up files.

in any case, when it comes to delphi for Android, doesnt really matter if it is delphi or not, because all of our compression libraries are in C.

ZIP AES is FIPS 140-2 certified. There is no difference in encryption strength when it comes to AES, it is always same AES standard.

I have the default ZIP and ZIPX set to “Move and replace.”

But when I drag a file either onto a ZIP icon or an open ZIP, the option is set to add and replace.

in few days… paf simply requires a lot of specific codecs, we have done general one, we are almost done with pdf/png/zip recompressor, next is jpeg and then parts of paf.

If we work only on paf it would be done in 6-7 months… but we are not working only on paf, we promised some things last year and it is coming soon :-)

Okay testing this script out on a Windows 7 Professional 32bit machine works just fine with 7zip optimized Ultra compression, no errors. Might be a 64 bit issue.

in any case, it is google drive issue - we dont do anything special there. But you need to check non-optimized and zip compression to see if you can work around it.

it is not that simple… PA allows you to right click and unmount from anywhere… if it was only on specific iso, then you would also have to take steps to find that iso in windows explorer which is also not going to be super fast.

p.s. we cant have it mounted from the network, it is limitation. has to be locally.
