PowerArchiver Toolbox 2015 v15.04.03
Choose to use “Windows Dark” skin, Go into “Configuration” and select “Highlight archives” change from Black to any other colour, click OK twice I think.
Powerarchiver applies the new colour to archives briefly but then returns to Black again!
Hello!
When I use one of the older skins of PA 2018 in the new 2019 version the progress bar looks pretty ugly.
It looks better with the new skins but I prefer the old ones.
Unbenannt 1.jpg
I still have a fondness for the very old buttonbars to be found at http://www.powerarchiver.com/skins/toolbar/.
Up until (I think) PA2017 it was possible to use them with the more recent skins, but I haven’t yet been able to work out a way, or the right combination, to do so with PA2018.
It’s not exactly the end of the world if the old bars can no longer be used, but I’m curious to know if they still can.
I have had to reinstall PA 2016. I can now change to any of the included skins (Classic, etc.) but cannot use any of the downloaded skins (in the SKIN folder or obtained by double clicking on the download). Any ideas, please?
I just wanted to express a congratulations to PixelPirate, Basj and Conmandeco.
Also, I think all the skins submitted to the contest were great and I know PA users appreciate each and every one of them. Nice work guys!

Can I/we please, please, please have the option NOT to use the tab titles in ALL CAPS like Office 2013 please?
there seems to be white bands on some of the borders for this theme, can that be fixed for the next update?
Hi All,
Currently PowerArchiver 2011/12 hosts;
1 default Classic Toolbar and 20+ downloadable skins via website.
The user can also select 6 preinstalled Ribbon interfaces ranging from office 2007/10 with Black, Silver and Blue.
So significantly more classic old style than modern.
Do you as a PowerArchiver User prefer Ribbon or Classic?
It possible to add more ribbon to new PA 2011??
If yes, i hope the developer add news office 14 ribbons…
Thanks, cant wait PA 2011!..
 I have to say without a doubt, Mr. Marc Foumbergs Skins are by far the best, most creative skins on the site! The others are good……but his are off the chain! Good job MARC! :p
PA - Preferred Skin ?

Just being curious but why is your thread titled “PA - Skin’s Future”? when it’s really just a poll asking which one we use.
-
I was a die-hard classic user for most of my PA days and defended it vigorously especially since I was an avid user of Marc A. Foumberg’s skins but since the introduction of additional options in PA I feel the ribbon layout suits me better for ease of access…it took me a while to adapt but it won me over in the end.
-
Very similar to my use Moles.
If I’m feeling rebellious I switch back to the classic skin. ;)
-
Which should I opt for when over 90% of use is via shell extensions ??
I use main window only when configuring (options, profiles etc.)
Admittedly I prefer Modern for that - but only because of QAT (I’m lazy) - not for the skin. -

Cheers, have updated.
I am just interested in what is the PA users favourite GUI.

I got that. ;)
That’s what made me think it was a strange title. -
I like to clarify it further with you Luxor… you know so your able to understand it. :)
-
Ahem!
@Sir:Miss title to be fair
Nothing wrong with my understanding. :p

Yes, she’s always fair, whenever she wins the title!

Can’t remember to be honest.<runs off=“” to=“” check=“”>
Yes I’m Invisible. Ready to pounce from the shadows when required. :D</runs> -
Ahh gotcha! It just helps when i can see green because i know how soon i need to bother to reply to a message :) or how long to wait till i reply :D
If it wasnt for being on these forums for so many years and understanding how to check if your online without the green light im sure that “Pounce” would un nerve my slightly.
However, as you un nerve me anyway it doesnt really matter. :D

You’re not the first to say that Richard. :D

you know i was just about to post a poll on our Facebook page.
I feel that time has come for Modern interface to shine.
We simplified it in PA 2012 a bit yet made it more advanced :-).Question is NOT what you guys like - you guys can change your setting anytime. Question is what average joe prefers - he gives PA one chance and does not know to change skins.
So will the new modern interface with no default preview but with Preview smart tab and color coding be too much? Or will it be easier to use than before?
-
two very different sides to PA 2012 :-)
-
p.s. Richard - our Classic works on any Windows OS and our Ribbon works on any Windows OS… you dont have to limit it to XP or Win7.
p.p.s. There are over 20 skins, 5 per page :P

“SIGH” I wasnt reffering towards “compatibility” but visually styled… classic is like XP. and modern like vista, windows 7 & 8.
reference the skins… do appologies… i shall amend.
So we have more old style skins and significantly less modern.2012 Looking Good ;)

Notm sure what the smart tab is? Is that the coloured Preview beside the QAT? I just think that looks confusing.
Also shouldn’t those zip files be coloured? Preview supports Zip.
-
I think the idea of a Smart Preview Tab is a good idea and concept! something that can be expanded on.
Also it is similar to Office when you select a file such as a picture a new Tab appear enabling you to alter the picture.
So you are keeping powerarchiver coherent with a international office application.
Thats good for business and home users too.
The question should be, if the user doesnt like the smart tab is it possible they can turn it off and switch to the old preview screen???
ow and to clarifiy before i get it in the neck from you guys “again” im not complaining… i personaly am happy with a preview tab… but until get to test the program in real life i cant say for sure. I am just asking a question and suggesting a possible solution.

smart/conextual tab turn on based on what file you have opened and/or selected.
i have it in mind to add tools tab for instance as well, that would show tools applicable, used on that file you have opened.

sure, you can leave preview always on… smart tab just give you bigger area to work with than that tiny toolbar we had on the top of preview…
so basically gives you easy access to preview when you need it and more screen space when you dont.
-
as part of Win8, Windows Explorer will have similar contextual tabs that show up depending on what file we selected… it makes sense, very simple to use while keeping you with all the options.

now the question was - is new PA 2012 interface with color coding too complicated looking at start to be default?

Speaking for myself, no it doesn’t look too complicated at all.

it is mostly about color coding… some people will like it, some wont… if we make it optional, nobody will ever use it.

Those who don’t like it can disable it if it bothers them. For that reason I would go with it being the default layout. I would guess that a lot of folk will find the colour coding useful and if it’s not default then some would never know it’s available.

For the 1st time in ages i agree with Luxor… :)
It isnt too complex and if you want users to have a feel for something new sometimes you need to push them in that direction so they get to experience it.
I’ve spoken to a few freinds from work about this feature and they suggested it was a good idea to enable an adaptive colour scheme for Archives.
One area I would suggest, and have done in the past was a more advanced search engine that incorporated additional filters.
Now you have colour schemes it would be great if that was a filter within the search Dialog.
This then gives user a more adaptive, dynamic interface with coherent search and filter system.

I’ve noticed that many of those things ive added over the 6 years have found themselves into the PowerArchiver Application. :)
And as a developer myself i know your work is never done. Everytime you finish one job it can open up several other adjustments, additions etc.
…. But, if its a problem i can always keep my thoughts to myself. ;)

Thats the Developers Spirit i like to see!! and thats why you have my support :)
Looking forward to testing Alpha 2012!

Hi!
So will the new modern interface with no default preview but with Preview smart tab and color coding be too much? Or will it be easier to use than before?
Personally, it feels like the colors is way too much I it really doesn’t help me at all when I look in the filelist of the Archive. There are too many different colors in the list and if I would have to choose between the clean white background of the filelist or the one you have with different colors, I would choose the clean white background.
If I have understand this correctly, the user will have the option of turning these colors off and use the white background instead and the question is if the colors should be turned on by default. I think it would be better if they where turned off by default. If you choose to have different colors in the filelist then I have a suggesion of how you could improve this.
Let the user have 3 different settings for the color coding of the filelist.
- Same as you have in your screenshot with colors for filetype, maxsize, maxcompression etc.
- No colors at all with white background (default settings)
- User defined color coding of the list.
With user defined color coding, the user can choose to set a color for a specified filetype and then the whole row will have the same background color.
Example: If I choose to have all files in the archive that have the .xps fileextension set as lightblue, then the filelist will have white background for all the files except for the one that have this extension.
The filelist will be easier to read with only one color of each row instead of different colors in different columns of the same row
Kind Regards
Micke
-
those options already exist :-)
you can turn it off, turn it on and manually color different groups. -
like this……
-
TOP Notch!
Especially when im emailing and archiving backups of Database’s with Spreadsheets and txt files in sub folder groupings…
To be able to visually see the difference and not having to check the words for formats is a top idea.
And it is a Fact that the human brain recognises Images and Colours significantly faster than words and numbers.
-
maybe when alpha/beta is out you guys can send in your suggestions for default colors

Anything but pink & green. :D
-
I actually think - same as Luxor - this should be turned on by default (to show that it is possible) otherwise most users wouldn’t even know about it.
Of course, turning off or changing should be as simple as possible - maybe even described in release notes.
-
bump :-)

And Help, of course
Do we need to come up with a name for this feature?
I also don’t like “Base, Darker1” etc but can’t think of better names at the moment
-
Color coded file list :)
Did you notice how to turn it off? I dont think it can be more obvious… But still some people might not be able to find it quick enough? :-)
-
Finding it yourself and having it described are different requirements ;-P

I did :) bottom left corner of a ribbon interface look like a paint can and brush with a “user colour coded filelist” as text popup when curser goes over it.
-
so what about colors that you preffer? send us your screenshots!
-

You mean the big one with always active highlight?
Yeah, was waiting for Guido to “bug” it.
He loves that stuff :D -

Still playing with the formats, to be honest its great but doesnt work the way i imagined it to.
For example I cant easily say all:
“xls”, “csv”, “txt” is Yellow
“Mpeg”, Jpeg" is Blue
“SAP, MDB, DDB” is red.But again… im still playing around.
One area i am trying to change is if a file is “csv” is doesnt class it as text on my system i would prefer it as a spreadsheet colour.
I know csv’s are text formatted but as i deal with csv’s every day and associate them with spreadsheets or database’s i would like the ability to choose.
I’ve just played with the presets, nothing major.
Ow it would also be good if I could Apply a colour to Archive’s as currently it’s set as text in colour?
It might just be that i dont understand the formating and settings… :)
