Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats?
    A

Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)

    Optimize archive on Context Menu
    W

I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.

Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption

I’m more intrigued by the ‘Super Secret App’. You should not have even mentioned that, LOL.

We’re a curious lot here and I’d take some pills for your headache…which is yet to come!

Guys I think it’s great. One more thing - every time I make an update I have to manually end my explorer.exe process (if I don’t, it will think for a long time and then ask me to do so) and then reinitiate it.
Are you benchmarking on Vista/win7 with UAC activated?

Yeah, it took 65 sec on Win7 w/ UAC, with clicking on dialogue boxes instantly, on very fast computer with 4 Mbs connection… we will see how it goes with new update system ;-).

As to the explorer.exe, thats feature of Windows Restart Manager, something is wrong with yours then… definetly not an perfect Windows feature but it is better than what we had before (which was nothing). Not sure how will this be influencing it, as we will be accessing restart manager directly, instead of through Windows Installer.

This will make life allot easier! maybe we could have background update… where if selected by the user PowerArchiver updates to the latest Beta or Full release and installs in the background ready for the next restart.

                          @blog:

It took around 65 seconds until PowerArchiver 2010 11.60 was installed and running again (upgrade from PA 2007)

So, who was still running PA 2007

                          Incremental update - Yes
                          Parallel/One-Step update - Yes

No mention of update option for shell menu (yet) :p

P.S. would this also update for “patches” like

So that’s where I have it:). I was deliberately vague and did not specify the OS ;).

It’s quite common and explorer.exe always automatically restarts. Mildly inconvenient at most.

you mean the slowness is common or restart is common? I believe Explorer gets prevented by some apps to do proper restart, I had that problem with Win7 RC’s, but is gone now (i also have less apps installed).

But the whole point is that when some installation needs to replace file which is in use by system, unlike before, it shuts down that application first, install new software, and restarts it (in this case Explorer)… in XP and before, you had to restart your computer which was rather inconvinient ;-)

                                                  Sorry for not explaining properly,

It is quite common for the PA install/upgrade to have to close down explorer.exe. Explorer always starts again automatically and the whole business is a minor inconvenience so I’ve never bothered reporting it.

                                                    Sorry for not explaining properly,

It is quite common for the PA install/upgrade to have to close down explorer.exe. Explorer always starts again automatically and the whole business is a minor inconvenience so I’ve never bothered reporting it.

                                                    Regards

                                                    DrT

yes, thats the way Windows Restart Manager works ;-). There is no other way to replace system files (such as pa shell extensions dlls) than to close explorer, replace them and restart it. Windows Restart Manager is new feature of Vista/Win7 that Windows Installer (MSI) uses and is mandatory.

Previously, you had to either manually do that, or restart your computer.

not yet…. some things are done, some are not.
