It’s totally usable now.
It’s downloadable now.
It’s just that development has slowed to a crawl.

Just uninstalled, fully cleaned all registry using Registry Finder to search for and remove all PowerArc and Connexware entries, and then reinstalled - and now showing just the one, correct menu.

Something was duplicating the installation of the handlers, so maybe something that can be done in the installer.

Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 .

The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg
I know it has non standard quotes in it.

However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip.

Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it.

Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver.

When will a fix be implemented?

I have installed the latest beta on windows 11 pro and it work ok, I use mcafee. If the file is in the folder, as I suspect it should be, then it could be a permissions thing on your system. One way to test its’s not your antivirus doing this is to temporary disable it and try loading / installing powerarchiver. If that works its your antivirus.

Another solution is to install to a different folder to see if the program folder is locked permission wise.

I would suggest listing your windows 11 build and specs on computer.

I tried it again. After attempting to delete a directory in the .tar (or .tar.xz) file I get this:
PA del err 1-fs8.png
and then the file is truncated.

Just wrote a reminder to the team to release the Portable version, if it does not appear in the coming update, it will in a future one.

Thanks. I’ve had a look at the Ashampoo Pro 4 version, but that seems to be minus a number of things that are in the current release of Powerarchiver.

For instance, there isn’t a “Remove Encryption” offering, the archive creation section doesn’t offer several of the options in PA such as Move/Update/Refresh and some other switches, there isn’t a Test Archive feature and so on. Whilst it does the job in parts, the Pro 4 offering is distinctly reduced from the PA version, although the prices seem to be the same.

Speaking of which, we haven’t seen any updates to PA 2023 since 22.00.09, and whilst I’m a firm believer in the “ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy, it would be good for those of us who have bought and used PA for many years to have some small inkling of what PA may be planning.

Going back to the original problem of decryption, I think that it may have been just a temporary glitch (possibly process overloads) on my machine, as it has worked OK, albeit on smaller archives than that which gave problems.
Another interesting thing is that the Help for the Ashampoo version does list the same things as the Help for PA e.g. gridlines, comments etc. etc.

Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)

While I think the PA is a great format I have the problem that most of my contacts use WinZIP and thus can only process ZIPX when exchanging JPEG and MP3.
Unfortunately PowerArchiver supports extraction of all ZIPX-archives, but when compressing to ZIPX the really useful JPEG- and MP3- and … algorithms are not supported.
Please consider adding these ZIPX-compression-capabilities for better interoperability.

Well this is weird. This “bug” has gone away. I swear this is what was happening when I originally posted the bug report.

However today it’s working perfectly.

It must have been due to something other than PA on my PC, since the only things that have changed are things other than PA.

Any updates going to happen for the bugs reported?

@Mili 6 years later I see no support for .PA on Android :) Currently using ZArchiver on Android. It does the job but .PA usually gets a better compression ratio. Are there any plans to release an “Unrar” like component for other archivers to use?

I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz

It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.

I’ve tested converting the archive and found that the test2 folder that is inside the archive is omitted when converting.
Also, PowerArchiver shows a CRC error when extracting the same archive.

In further testing, tried converting https://mattmahoney.net/dc/silesia.zip and that worked properly.

We have logged the issue in and will take a look to fix it.

@spwolf OK, but what if you don’t have a registered copy because your Toolbox license has expired? Can you continue to extract PA files? Or is your ability to interact with PA files completely cut off?

@trparky I had the same issue as you did - the latest windows 11 update (March/23) seemed to be the cure - give it a shot.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix coming? This is a primary reason I buy PA.

I’ve tried both methods I know to extract multiple zips at the same time. 1) Multi Extract feature in the GUI. 2) In Windows File Explorer, select multiple zips, right click, use PA context menu to Extract or Extract To…

Is there a setting I missed? Or maybe it really is processing in parallel, but I can’t detect it? Nothing tells me in the Processes in Task Manager that multiple PA extracts are running. And my CPU, memory and disk resources do not look like a lot of extracts are running.

I’m using PA 2022 Standard version 21.00.18 on Windows 11 Pro version 10.0.22621 Build 22621.

It looks like its resolved in the latest Windows 11 preview update (March/23).
