Vivaldi browser.

From the guys who gave us Opera comes a new browser. A technical preview has been released which you can download from here Chrome based but the UI is more like the old Opera with notes, bookmarks, (email coming later down the line). Basically all the things that Opera ASA told us was not possible in Opera 15+ Maybe one worth keeping an eye on, for us old Opera devotees.

Total Commander

I have heard many of you refer to Total Commander. I currently use Xyplorer –- which in many ways is nice. But (a) there is almost always some glitch that causes it to crash if I use it as the default file manager, and (b) the developer’s help files are less than adequate, and the developer won’t give any help. So I am thinking about changing. Are you happy with it? Is it stable? Instructions clear?

Recommendations for backup software?

I do not want cloud backup. I have a service and am happy with it. I do not want imaging backup. Tried it and didn’t like it. I want a program that will backup the files I specify efficiently (without insanely slowly down the system), on a schedule, and with some decent options (exact copy, plain copy, versions, etc.). I have used a program I liked (SecondCopy) for at least a dozen years. Never thought I would change. But they are now on beta 4 on Version 9 – after starting on beta 1 some 7-8 months ago. It is still plagued with nagging problems. I keep trying it, finally uninstall the beta and reinstalling version 8. This is getting tiresome. It is time to look for an option. However, I am not having any luck. I keep find online backups and imaging software. But I don’t want either. Ideas? I would appreciate your guidance. Hugh

Who uses cobian backup?

For backup my documents i use cobian backup for some years. Ones everything is set, it runs by itself and the user don’t have to worry that there will be a failure with the backup. Are there people who uses cobian backup or is everyone using PA backup? I don’t know if i must ask the next question in this section or in the wishlist. Cobian backup is for sale. Is Conexware interested in the program or trying to implement the advanced option(scheduled backup parts)? Now i’m using the standard version of PA, but scheduling the backup is the only thing that i’m not satisfied about.

PA website on WP7

When I try to select the forum on website shown on my WP7 phone, it never shows the dropdown list, It just reloads the page. When clicking on community. the dropdown list flashes by and the page is reloaded. Anything you can do about this?

Opera moves to WebKit

So Opera is moving to Webkit. Presto will be no more. Opera gears up at 300 million users 300 million users strong, Opera moves to WebKit Good or bad? I’m undecided. If the great things that Opera is good at, security, customisation and innovation continue then I suppose it won’t make much difference to the normal user. At least it will bring an end to those sites that use browser sniffing to prevent Opera users using their sites properly. :rolleyes:

CCleaner & PowerArchiver

Hi, If you have ccleaner and the winap2.ini file if you copy and paste the below script I wrote it will give you an option to clear all recent files including backup scripts. CCleaner does include PowerArchiver but it is prior 2009 and doesnt include the latest versions recent history. Hense why i wrote this. Boot up Sequence

I just need a refresher on the best way to go about changing my boot up drive… I have win7 installed on c drive and e drive but i want the e to become the c drive which will then enable me to format the larger current c drive. can you guys give me a refresher please on the safest way to do it ? many thanks…very late and very tired here so I thought I best ask the experts…:)

‘Lux’ you wouldn’t happen to be running ‘Opera’ 11.60 Build 1185 would you ? curious to know if you’re encountering any page reloading issues when viewing PA forum? on occasion for me it just reloads and displays lines of code as opposed to the correct layout but another refresh seems to cure it.

VMware Workstation Question

Question for you guys… I’ve never used any of the current breeds of software that enable you to install an operating system onto a virtual drive and I’m wondering if this is at all possible… can I install vmware workstation then create a virtual drive via it and install the OS of my choice and then after a period of time if I’m satisfied with it can I then copy that OS from the virtual drive to a secondary hard drive or is that not possible? or do I have to reinstall from scratch to secondary hard drive ? I’m hoping to install an older OS and once it’s running as I want it I want to take an image of it using Acronis True Image…that way I can use it or store it. I’m relying on your wealth of knowledge in this dept…:) many thanks, Mike.

Battlefield 3!

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone will be buying the Battlefield 3 game and if so why and what console? I personally, have a major interest in BF3 and have played BF2 since I found out about its dynamic enviroment and 95% destructable Frostbite system. However, I am a PS3 owner! but might have to build a PC if this game is as good as the 55 awards say it is!! I noticed some performance degradation on my blazingly fast laptop and when I finally got around to check it, it ended up being my CPU running 600mhz instead of 2ghz :-).

Pretty nice software for anyone with an laptop… good job for authors!

Interesting tool but I am not sure how to use it yet. At least I confirmed that I am running at the expected 3.4 Ghz on my laptop. Now I need to try it on my crappy laptop with the mobile processor.

it is basically for managing speedstep - you can micromanage speedstep settings of your mobile cpu.
