For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

Some labels in the help toolbar are not translated:

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Unsolved Smart AI: Preferences not intuitive

Sorry, in this scenario: What will happen?
Is FIPS mode auto, on or off?
Is PowerSave mode auto, on or off?
Is Touch mode auto, on or off?For all three settings, I can select on, off or auto - what’s the catch of the switch on top to enable/disable Smart AI? How does it influence my selections for the three options below?
-
FIPS, PowerSave Mode, Touch Mode are all part of the SmartAI component and therefore the settings in the dropdowns are applied when Smart AI is turned on at the top.
Thanks for bringing this up, would a textual description at the top help in clearing up how the settings work?
We’re always looking to present new options/features as clear as possible, and this helps us in that.Let us know! thanks!

help section would help for sure :)

@Mili So, if I understand you correct, I’ll have to enable Smart AI to use the components. But if I set all components to on or off, there’s nothing “smart” about it?
If I disable Smart AI, the three components will be disabled even if I’ll set them to enabled? Wouldn’t it be better to disable the component’s options if “Smart AI” is disabled in first place?I think a description would be very helpful in any case.

right now you dont have to enable smartai to enable options, it is work in progress. I guess big selector could switch them all to Auto or Off.
Otherwise, when it makes sense, there will be more than a single option… each individual option is different, and you might want to use touch mode but do not want FIPS.
By default, most of them will be on Auto, now or in the future, and that is the main point - being able to change options intelligently based on users computer usage, without them having to go into options.
-
@spwolf For sure, I understand, that I want to set the single components to different states. And ON/OFF/AUTO are valid options for each. But I think, the global SmartAI slider is not intuitive (but if it’s still work in progress, I guess it will get better).
-
Hi @spwolf, I’ve just had a look at the new preview.
Now, I think, I understand what’s the effect of changing a setting.
But as the settings dialog seems to be unfinished, I can’t really ensure it by testing…But I still think the UI could be simpler.
Now, there is one slider to enable “SmartAI”, which gives you the possibility to enable SmartAI for FIPS, power saving and touch UI via another checkbox.
If this “SmartAI” slider is disabled or the corresponding checkbox is unchecked, I can configure each of the three setting by a combo box. Then there is another slider for “SmartAI for themes” which gives me the possibility to select a themes for standard and dark mode.
The sliders are completely superfluous in my opinion.
The checkboxes and the comboboxes can easily combined if you add an “Auto” or if you like “SmartAI” option, as it was before.
If one setting, stands on “Auto”, SmartAI needs to be enabled. If none of the three is configured for auto selection, SmartAI could be disabled.Same for the skin selection: If the same skin is selected for standard and dark mode, SmartAI for themes is off, if different themes are selected, SmartAI for themes is on.
-
@BigMike I also think it can still be improved… incoming i guess :)
-
I’ll continue to give my input, while it’s work in progress. Complaining after release is somehow not the right way…

Hi,
I’ve reported this already per mail, when I sent my updated translation files, but actually never got a reply:If I first open up the SmartAI properties, while “SmartAI” and “Auto detect color mode” are disabled, the “Auto” check boxes are enabled (red in the image), enabling SmartAI and disable it again, the check boxes will also be disabled.
Even worse: Enabling the light/dark mode detection disables the Theme dropdowns (why??), switching it off/on again, won’t enable these dropdowns, they stay disabled (blue in the image)The gestures list and the gesture dropdown cut the text, this is also the case for English texts. It’s impossible to know, what the gesture looks like/what action will be performed. (yellow in the image)
-
good points @BigMike
reproduced all and logged in, as well as an improvement report for the gestures text.
thanks! -
Just to report back: Still not working in 19.00.58
