    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT

Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

BETA PowerArchive 22.00.11 - Windows 11 Context Menu duplicated/additional tier
    TheAndyMacT

The Windows 11 context menu for PowerArchiver on normal files (to be compressed, etc.) is now showing multiple tiers with two identical menus. See attached captures of the issue:

Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D

Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 .

The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg
I know it has non standard quotes in it.

However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip.

Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it.

Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver.

When will a fix be implemented?

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA2023 22.00.09 trying to delete a directory from a tar file.
    Brian GregoryB

I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023.
PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more.
I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result.

This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.

    PA 2023 Toolbox - 22.00.09 - Remove archive encryption
    PA_FanP

    Win 11 64 bit

I have some archives which have been encrypted, using the encrypt option either in pbs or when interactively creating a zip. When I open these, and look at files, I am asked for passwords, which I know, and then can view items or decrypt the files in the archive (tools>decrypt files).

However, when I use the Actions>Remove Archive Encryption (whether using the same zip or asking to write another), the routine shows progress bar to the end, but then just hangs i.e. “OK” never activates. All process information shows this stalled/hanging.

What can I do to sort this out?

Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !

I have Windows XP Home edition, Service Pack 2 with 512 mg of ram with 70 HD. A new issue has come up and I need to alert people to see if this can be confirmed.

      1. Open PowerArchiver 2010.
      2. Minimize the application.
      3. Now hibernate Windows XP.
      4. Resume XP from hibernation.

Issue: PowerArchiver 2010 maximizes after you return to the desktop and now you can’t minimize the application. If you try minimizing PA2010…it refuses to minimize. You have to close the application to see the desktop.

Big difference though…you’re using Service Pack 3. I chose not to update Windows XP with Service Pack 3…so my issue concern is still valid.

I kind of doubt it is due to SP3, it would make our life easier (in that case it is MS issue that has been fixed). But you guys need to remember that it is not black and white, it can work at one place and cause issue at another.

I suppose it could be a video card issue…but I’m not buying it. All my other programs work as intended except for this issue with PA2010.

Hopefully the coming update will fix this.

i doubt it is video card, it is something else… and something like this needs to be fixed specifically, so no update will fix it unless we can reproduce it.

can you send us your registry settings from HKCU\Software\PowerArchiver, zipped to support ar conexware dot com and Mili can try to replicate the issue with your own settings.

                    thanks

First of all…how do I do this? Should I first replicate the problem and then see if this creates this file you’re talking about?

This is what just greeted me after I did another wake up from a hibernate session with PA2010 as the only application minimized.

After waking Windows XP from hibernation…I get PA2010 MAXIMIZED…and I can’t see the desktop even after I hit the minimize button on the top right hand of the screen. It refuses to minimize. I’m forced to close PA2010 to see my desktop.

In case you’re curious…I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop. If this is localized to only the Dell models…then I’m out of luck.

whats the reason that you dont want SP3 on your XP installation? I just checked list of fixes for SP3, and while there is never ever any guarantee about anything, but it seems that SP3 has over 10-15 different hibernation fixes included.

We have 4 different Dell laptops running XP in our office alone, and we will keep trying to reproduce this issue in following days but something like this could be extremly specific to even specific graphics card drivers for instance.

There are also issues also with the Service Pack 3 with software compatability. I use an expensive Windows Explorer replacement tool…Directory Opus 9 and I’m afraid installing Service Pack 3 could crash my laptop. So I keep the old saying in mind…“If it ain’t broke…don’t fix it.”

I think this saying is very true. I’ve done nothing to my system that would cause it to slow down or crash. PA2010 is good…but I can’t use this for hibernation jobs. I’ll simply close the application before I go into hibernation. Every other application I’ve used for hibernation works as advertised…and PA2010 is the first one that doesn’t (as far as my laptop is concerned.)

I think it’s the Windows Vista/Windows 7 capabilities that are built into PA2010 that might be causing this issue. Remember, Windows 7 is a big jump from XP so I wouldn’t rule out GUI changes to the software model that might account for this.

nah, its nothing that far fetched at all, there are no gui changes required whatsoever… as you could have seen by now, i dont like trying to guess what the issue is before finding the culprit (experience), but i am pretty sure that win7 changes would be all the way back on my list :).
