For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Duplicate "Compression Profile" names allowed
-
I found out (accidentally, I assure you) that PA allows more than one compression profile of a given name. Needless to say this can be confusing when you go to use one of them.
I was in there and copied/pasted one profile name, intending to change the name “ZIP (Save full paths)” to “ZIP (Save no paths)”. (Yeah, I’m lazy. That’s why I want a “Configuration” toolbar button"!) But I forgot to change the name, then later went to use the profile…
Now, I’m not saying this is bug “2 of 2”, but… Well let’s just say I’m hoping! :)
-
damn…I’m glad I keep things simple…:)
-
There’s nothing complicated about how I have it set up. I have two ZIP and two 7-ZIP profiles. I prefer to select profiles from a drop-down than to keep an eye on various settings, especially when those settings become the new default.

granted it probably is very useful to you but all my compression is always done via the context menu…it’s very rare I actually open PA in all it’s glory unless of course I’m examining archives.
I wonder if there is any way a 'NEW" Profile can be added to the context menu
or would that be something to perhaps wish for in a future release? -
i consider this an feature, not a bug… PA lets you name your profiles as you wish, no restrictions :).
There are real bugs you know, I have list, its big! :)

I use these compression profiles from the context menu as well. I’m not sure why every post I make becomes an indictment of me as a computer user.

Sorry, I thought this was a bug. Because you’re actually wrong; you can’t name profiles as you wish. I wanted to rename the default profiles, but could not. (Actually I wanted to delete them, but after finding I couldn’t, I tried renaming them.) In any case, it’s a real stretch trying to call the ability to have duplicate names a “feature”.

dont take it personally, people have opinions, thats just all :).

It didn’t make sense though; I access compression profiles via the context menu.

most people use default explorer shell options, and dont go into the options screen :). Thats probably what he meant… but thats why we are here and we take in mind that we have wide range of users that are using PA in different ways :P

seems to be some confusion here over MY post maybe?..methinks nameless has seen it as an attack on his original post when in actual fact I was just stipulating the fact that I use the context menu…I saw no mention of that in his original post which is why I aimed my wish at the context menu having the additional options.
do I now have to make sure my posts are politically correct people ?..or am I now labeled as ‘opinionated’ ?
it seems I will have to construct my replies more diligently so as not to offend anyone in future…sheesh!
and here was me thinking all I was doing was testing a piece of software.apologies ‘nameless’ if you thought I was making light of your post…it wasn’t my intention.
I was just airing my views and wishes on the topic in question.
