Question to 4Gb ZIP archive options
-
what happened if you forget to set the 4gb checkbox while creating an archive larger than 4GB?
-
It would create an archive in pkzip 2.04g format which means that it would be an bad archive. Keep in mind that the size of files does not matter since for example you could compress 10 GB file to 3 GB and it would work fine - just in case you were thinking about that :-).
We will probably enable this option by default in the future major release…

thsi would be great ;)

And what will happen if you use more then 4 GB without having a file that size? Are there any sideeffects which I should keep in mind?
If there are no side effects, if it is only a kind of upgrade, why is there an opportunity to switch? -

If the flag is NOT set and the resulting Zip archive is 4GB (or more) it will be invalid.
So you will not be able to extract from it.The size of files being archived do not matter, it is only the size of the resulting Zip file that matters.

If the flag is set, and the size is less then 4 GB, are there then side effects? What does that flag, does it increase the size, does it doublecheck?
-
Flag makes PA create archives in PkZip 4.5 format, and a lot of other archives can not read files create with 4.5 format…
