For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

Some labels in the help toolbar are not translated:

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Bug not fixed in new version

Re: Using the Queue Feature affects Compression Ratio negatively
I’m sorry if the dev team is affected by pandemic, and if anyways that is affecting their quality to provide quality software.
But honestly, it’s been an year I have been complaining about the queue feature, it is taking them ages to fix.
referencing the above bug, I have been waiting patiently, but the bug isn’t fixed at all.
The old queuing bug where PA gets stuck randomly, isn’t fixed either.
The Bug where you keep 10-15 files in queue at once, will cause the software to miss few in queue.
and sometimes it would compress into a corrupt archive, so you have to manually open each archive and make sure everything is there as expected.
There’s way too many bugs, and I see none getting fixed.
I’m disappointed with this software.
I should have sticked to 7zip or given a shot to other archivers than this, at least they don’t provide update once in 4 months and fix nothing.

Hi,
thank you for the report. We (@Mili ) will investigate queue and PA format a bit better, I saw it mentioned in our issue reporting system. In this case, it seems all the options might not be passed to the queue as supposed to when you create file directly. Are the files the same if you do not change the dictionary size?
When it comes to 7z and other software, what kind of compression are you getting on the same file? Is there a difference?
thank you!

Honestly,
There’s not even a single guide to using this software, it’s just that if you know what you are doing you are at your own’s mercy.
I tried changing lots of options, including changing dictionary size to 128 MB.
keep PNG filter to reflate*7, and no filter for PNG files.
keep x64+deltab for exe and no filterEverything has same result, Using queue will make the files large
There’s another issue.
I tried to avert the queue feature.(Instead start all compression at once)
Make some 10 folders, with 10-15 files in each, small PNG, JPG, or anything u want. make total size somewhere 50 MB of each folder.
then keep all the folders in compression individually, and run all of them at once.
out of 10, the very first process will complete normally, rest all will have following resuults:
- either complete with no errors but the .pa archive will be corrupt with some 20-40% of total file’s size or empty.
- will give disk full error after some 10-15 secs
- if the first one completed while you tried to put up another one for archiving, it will go on as it should, but the rest process will have corrupt results.
Also, when I try to change directory from the selection tab, without using browse feature, to create folders.
The PA process runs, asks for admin rights, I give it, it creates folder if it does not exist, then it will give disk full error, and delete the empty folder, no compression is done.
-
Coming back after exact 30 days, there’s no update for the software.
Now the windows 11 is coming, so there will be huge delay due to migrating and making the code work with new OS.
I don’t expect the very features that I need to work to be fixed in this year’s patches.

Please send us that archive compressed with .pa/normal and let us know what settings you used. Thanks.

There will be no changes needed on our side for Windows 11.
On PA side, we are releasing minor version update in next 10 days and we have started working on PA 2022. Thanks!

I cannot make a lengthy video for variety of errors that I encounter.
However, this is persistent error, let’s start with this.

and the file that was archived.

I will be honest with you.
You release minor versions because you fixed bugs, optimized performance/code.
,
You release major version because you added new features, made overhaul to the software, and it’s competitively better than old major release. However, all your releases had same bugs, same outcome, I hardly notice any difference between resulting compressed archives, there are no new algorithms, there’s no optimization or performance improvements, and no new features.
Many devs have made it a hobby to release new major versions to sell new software due to major upgrade.
also, don’t wish to go offtopic, but ConeXware’s Encryption suite has never been updated, it has same visual and operational bugs, yet you guys are selling it openly, without disclosing the fact that software is no longer supported.
I feel the same with this software.
P.S. commenting after 12 days, there’s no minor version update yet. as per your 10 days statement.
