For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

PA 22.00.09 shows a nag screen, when I try to open some setting windows. I have already PA 2023 Toolbox and PA shows, that it’s licensed in the info dialog.

I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
Win95b problems
-
Hi,
Installed PA 9.11 on a Win95b computer and received the following error messages:
1. The POWERARC.EXE file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:ShellExecuteExw
2. Powerarc.exe - a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Now, knowing the problems (fun ?? ) I have had in the past with Win95b, that errir msg is famailiar, and from memory, basically means I need to update SHELL32.DLL, however I do know that I have all the latest patches, etc, installed for Win95b, and I also have IE 5.50, so the msg on this site about Win95 and IE is not applicable (i.e. I’m on a later version of IE anyway).
I did email PA technical support, but I guess they are asleep. :D
Also, will PA 9.11 include files beginning with a period, I find it annoying that vers 6.11 will not include these files, as they are needed on websites (yes 6.11 is free, so I get what I pay for , but now I’m considering buying PA 9.11).
Thanks,
Peter

I could be wrong, but I don’t think they support 95 anymore.

Hi,

I don’t know, but from here - http://www.powerarchiver.com/download/ , right down the botom, it implies Win95 is okay.
Although the logo on the right hand side at ‘features’ link ( http://www.powerarchiver.com/features/ ) doesn’t state Win95, a lot of software companies all “officially” dropped Win95 support as soon as M$ did, but their products will still run okay under Win95.
Thanks,
Peter

Well, as this is not a valid Windows filename/foldername format - I doubt it.

Since somewhere in 9.xx release, PA does not support Win95 anymore - it is due to the new explorer view that we are using.

Hi,

Well, I have no problems creating filenames beginning with a period on Windooze. As a lot of the compressed files I work with are for websites, filenames beginning with a period are very common.
DOS can ‘see’ them, so can Windows, so I see no logical reason why PA cannot include them in an archive. I understand PA is written in Delphi; Delphi itself has no such limitations, it can read files beginning with a period.
(I can even do it in Clipper).

So, is there a “9.xx - 1” release that I can download/trial please ?
Thanks,

Actually, PA works fine with files starting with an dot :-).
I am not sure what is the last version that supported Win95, I would have to check and I really dont reccomend buying PA because of an older version even if you like it - makes no sense. I will see if we can do anything at all for 9.5 to make it work with Win95 but I doubt it.

Hi,
Good to hear the news on PA being able to handle files with a dot/period, as vers 6.11.0 which I have used for sometime now, misses them, and also runs out of memory if the file is too big (some are 30 to 50Mb compressed). Anyway, you get what you pay for, and 6.11 has been good really.
I’m looking at PA 9.2 because when I looked at another (very well known) compression tool, I was amazed it didn’t compress files to TAR or Gunzip formats, which is what is needed on the websites I work on.

I’m making enquiries about upgrading my OS, it is 10 years old, so I guess it’s time to upgrade. :D
However, thanks for considering Win95 users in vers 9.5, but I think it may be a backwards step, if it , in some way, hinders the functionality for (more modern) OS’s.
Thanks,
Peter

Well, if you are to upgrade to newer OS, then PA is definetly for you :-).
It is all about progress, that you can see, feel and maybe even smell, so yes you will be able to experience the difference. Newer versions are more stable, faster and even use less memory - we have tried hard to keep in touch with the basics, even while adding new features…Hopefully you will like it.
thanks,

Hi,
I just had the same problem.
To upgrade shell32.dll you have to install IE 4.01 SP2 using standard installation.
Installation of IE 5 or any other doesn’t contain upgrade of this file.best regards,
