    Website ideas
    D davidsplash
I do like the new website though I would like to have support tap to include in its menu the community forums. As at first I thought you got rid of them until I accidently went to bottom of support form page. It would be nice to have a menu for approved plugins for powerarchiver. I would be willing to test them for you.

Could powerarchiver be open sourced as I fear it is going to be lost once you decide to stop development on it.

    Missing Icons
    LuxorL Luxor
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9 [image: 1695053428163-powerarc_2023-09-18_17-00-19.png] [image: 1695053445119-powerarc_2023-09-18_17-01-05.png]

    Missing or ugly SFX-Icon
    MerowingerM Merowinger
When I create a SFX-file from a zip (not from a 7-Zip) it happens that there is no icon for the file or a really ugly, pixelated icon. [image: 1563693941255-unbenannt-1.jpg]

    End of Powerarchiver

Powerarchiver is dead no updates to fix bugs no new features, no communication and errors in program update system with scripting errors. Duplicate context menus windows 11 no fixes no updates I declare that this is the last version.

    Windows 11 Shell Extension crash
    W wilsonp
Copied the Take Command shortcut, changed Target to be wt.exe -p “Take Command” and saved it. Right-clicked to get to properties and Explorer crashed. (wt.exe is the Microsoft Terminal program, which I have installed from the Microsoft Store.) The Target path had changed to: C:\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\wt.exe -p “Take Command” Created a new shortcut in a Start Menu folder and set the command line to the same, and it crashed the same. Created a new shortcut and set the command line to mspaint.exe (also a Windows Store app) and Explorer crashed on right-click on the shortcut. It appears PowerArchiver shell extensions doesn’t handle Windows Store apps in shortcuts properly. Perhaps it needs better defensive coding around checking the Target of shortcuts, or just ignoring shortcuts altogether. Running PA 22.00.11 on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.6584

    Affected by winrar/.rar vulnerability?
    C cmmpc
Was Power Archiver affected by the WinRAR/.rar vulnerability discovered by ESET researchers recently? Not sure if PA is using their libraries for extraction.

Ultimate zip was made by powerarchiver
    D davidsplash
From google search AI Overview Yes, that’s correct. UltimateZip was indeed a product of the same company that developed PowerArchiver, and it was essentially a rebranded version of PowerArchiver. It was discontinued and replaced by PowerArchiver.

    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT TheAndyMac
Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

The Windows 11 context menu for PowerArchiver on normal files (to be compressed, etc.) is now showing multiple tiers with two identical menus. Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D davidsplash
Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 . The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg I know it has non standard quotes in it. However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip. Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it. Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver. When will a fix be implemented?

It looks like PowerArchiver will encode yEnc file but NOT decode them–-at least I haven’t gotten it to.
Anyone know if it will or should?
Also has anyone found a better yEnc decoder than yEnc32.exe?

      Note:
unfortunately Newgroups still use yEnc extensively although god only knows WHY!

Yenc support was added in PA8.50 (see whatsnew.txt).

It “recognises” Yenc files using file extension “ntx”.

Can you give more details of your problem with decoding?
I just tried to encode and then decode a jpg (using PA 9.2 beta) - worked fine

          Hi Terry,

What I’m looking at (Saved attachments files from a Newsgrooup) are a series of files with .001, .002, .003 extensions and then some .par2 files which verify the series. These are not proper RAR files as you might think from the numbered extension but in fact yEnc encoded files.

When all the parts are complete the various Newsreaders will automatically decode them. If a part is incomplete and I have to use something like Quickpar to repair one of the numbered files using the downloaded .par2** file–-That is where I have problems. At that point the Newsreader itself in not going to decompress the series and the only stand-alone decompressor I have that understands these files–yEnc32.exe is old, no longer supported and doesn’t seem to work on current yEnc encoded files.

**and that is the purpose of these .par2 file–to repair incomplete segments.

So far I haven’t found that PA–I’m using PA9 has any ability with these files—not even the ones a newsreader like NewsRover or Agent Forte is able to decompresses successfully.

          BTW:
When you’re looking at a series of files with a .ntx extension are they .nt1, .nt2, .nt3 because Newgroup attachment in a series generally all have the same filename with a discrete numbered extension as I describe above…eg., file.001, file.002, file.003…etc
renaming the series to file1.ntx, file2.ntx, file3.ntx results in
“unknown.001” error when loaded into PA9
renameing the series to file.nt1, file.nt2, file.nt3 results in
          “unrecognized compression format” error

          And again:
This is simply the Defacto standard compression format for Newsgroup files with compressed attachments. It’s archiac but that’s what you get.

So basically what you are saying is that PA 9.2 does not support these file.001 yENC files?

What we could do is check it out for 9.5 and add support for it? I know how newsgroups work, people posting love simply changing the rules of the game all the time :-).

            thanks,

I’d be glad to check out PA9.5 from this end although I have no idea where to locate that verson–assume it’s an internal beta.

BTW. PA9 2 does offer to encode yEnc files. I don’t know that the yEnc compression standard has changed but the .par verification files have. The new .par2 files will not process with legacy versions of Quickpar or Smartpar. Trying to find “current” yEnc ecode/decode details on the WWW is like looking for hens teeth in a chicken coop.

I consider PA to be a forerunner in PC file compression Applicatons and with a resurgence of Newsgroups–now being used for Filesharing more than community correspondence–I wonder why folks don’t use more current and mainstream compression technology.

Current release version is 9.2 - 9.5 will be the next release version.

                I think/hope this was a :p

                Regarding PAR2 & Yenc files - I don’t know.
Maybe your newsgroup has a FAQ which covers this?
