Archives .pa or Backupscripts .pa conflicts with open Office files
-
If you archive or backup your MS Office files in .pa compression, be sure that they are not in ‘open’ status. PA will kill the contents, and results ZERO archives/backups !
(also for Softmaker Office 2018 files - MS office clone)- Test of an Archive with an ‘open’ PDF files in .PA : no problems
Test of an Archive ‘open MS Office file’ in .PA : killed contents = zero file archive
Test of a Backup with an ‘open MS Office file’ in .pa : killed contents=zero file
(disaster if in this situation you activate the 'delete original…)
With ‘open’ MS Office files in .ZIP compression : NO PROBLEMS
With ‘open’ PDF files in .PA compression : NO PROBLEMS
With ‘open’ MS Office files (excel/word) in .PA compression : ZERO contents… and potential risk of lost file contentsSo why .zips do allways the job even with ‘open’ office files and .pa conflicts and kills your files ?
-
@pirrbe you mean it does not compress files in use - it does not “kill the contents” which would probably mean it rewrites original files? It should show an error at least, we will check it out.
-
@spwolf It is a potential killer if you active also ‘delete original file’ after backup… Or after the ‘no error’ report you delete your original file…
Or your have a ‘crash’ on your data partition and want to use your Power Archives …??? So there it is a potential killer :-).
Maybe ‘killer’ is a too strong word to express ‘data lost’.

How does it work in 7z for you?
-

Is this the same for both backup and shell compress to. pa or just backup?
Merci!
-
@spwolf it is for ‘Archive’ and also when using ‘Backup’ Script .pbs through PA dashboard
