Via explorer with the drag/drop you still can add selected files/subfolder to a new or existing Archive. If you use the PA Dashboard to create a new archive or adding extras to an existing archive you ONLY can select a folder. The PA explorer shows up the mainfolders, but you cannot select a subfolder or even files in a mainfolder to archive…

Most of the time, I use PA for extracting or viewing archives but today I had a ZIP file I wanted to update but can’t. I can’t enter ANY subfolders in PA’s Add files dialog!
Drag and Drop doesn’t work from XYplorer pro or Windows Explorer to PA

@ckit Ah, I am not the only frustrated :-). But I use GP Soft Directory Opus and with this beauty you can drag/drop files into PA. (I didn’t know that you cannot with MS Edge/Explorer, indeed). There are of course PLAN B solutions for your problem… Example : Open PA dashboard and select below the PA EXPLORER. Arrange the dual panes so on the left you have the ‘explorer’ and right you open you Archive Folder. Now you can drag/drop files !! Surprise : click on +add and the selected file in PA explorer (left pane) will be added to your open archive (right pane). Here it works, so I hope it works too for you.

Suppose I want to create an archive from my ‘hits of the 70’s’, these files are located in a subfolder on D:\ripped songs\hits of the 70’s.
I open the dashboard of PA and create a new archive : hits 70ties. The ‘add pop up window’ appears showing the folder ‘Ripped songs’.
But NO WAY to select the subfolder as PA doesn’t open in this pop-up explorer screen the subfolders…So even if you want to select individual files located in subfolders you may forget it. The PA dashboard / add explorer doesn’t give ACCESS to subfolders…

@spwolf I wonder too… I am still playing around before a final walk over to PA, I discovered this. The funny thing is that in PA explorer dual panes, all PA commands works even on subfolders and the drag/drop. I underrated the power of that PA explorer. But of course, using the PA dashboard is easier then PA explorer dual panes :-)

can you send us your HKCU\Software\PowerArchiverint to support at conexware dot com. And then you can try resetting to the defauls in Options menu. It should work fine, works fine here, might be some option or something. Thanks!
p.s. be sure to first save settings to reg so we have an example!

There’s no need to send you the REG file, I found the bug myself.
PowerArchiver running as Standard user privileges has no issues BUT change powerarc.exe’s Compatibility tab to “Run this program as an Administrator” and omg we’re buggy!

@spwolf GREAT : indeed, if you enable that ‘Advanced Add’ in config then my remark becomes a pseudo bug. Now folders/subfolders/files… the whole circus is showed ! Thanks for this tip. Suggestion : enable this as a default setting in a next release.

@pirrbe i like it too in PA 2017, but we need to improve it a little bit more to make it nicer. Regular add window is a bit easier to use for novice users, at least right now.

@spwolf great, selecting files/folders_subfolders works now in the Dashboard pop-up explorer. Status : solved :-)
