PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.
16.00.66 New behaviour of "Check for new version…"
-
Is this new behaviour (just taking you to the Powerarchiver download web page) intended?
And now people who want the beta versions have to be on the “Fast Ring”.
Choosing the name Microsoft used for their disastrous series of progressively less and less compatible versions of Windows 10 doesn’t really encourage me to stay “on” the fast ring. -
That ‘new behaviour’ is not happening here.
If you just remember, that here as well as with Microsoft, ‘fast-ring’ = ‘beta’ and you use those versions at your won risk, you will not go far wrong. Anybody who thinks otherwise should not be using them.
Cheers

You still get the old dialogue with current and new versions of Powerarchiver, Powerarchiver Beta and Patchbeam when you choose “Check for new version…” with version 16.00.66?

http://dl.powerarchiver.com/2016/powarc160067.exeFor some reason Windows Installer would not update patchbeam.exe properly so it would “disappear” during upgrade.
As to the naming, just like what drteeth said, it is another name for official test release. We plan to provide more official updates via fast ring version than previously where betas were done only during major release testing. Hope you will like it!

It would be nice to have a changelog for each version. If there is one, I cannot find it.
Thanks
