    Website ideas
    D davidsplash
I do like the new website though I would like to have support tap to include in its menu the community forums. As at first I thought you got rid of them until I accidently went to bottom of support form page. It would be nice to have a menu for approved plugins for powerarchiver. I would be willing to test them for you.

Could powerarchiver be open sourced as I fear it is going to be lost once you decide to stop development on it.

    Missing Icons
    LuxorL Luxor
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9 [image: 1695053428163-powerarc_2023-09-18_17-00-19.png] [image: 1695053445119-powerarc_2023-09-18_17-01-05.png]

    Missing or ugly SFX-Icon
    MerowingerM Merowinger
When I create a SFX-file from a zip (not from a 7-Zip) it happens that there is no icon for the file or a really ugly, pixelated icon. [image: 1563693941255-unbenannt-1.jpg]

    Windows 11 Shell Extension crash
    W wilsonp
Copied the Take Command shortcut, changed Target to be wt.exe -p “Take Command” and saved it. Right-clicked to get to properties and Explorer crashed. (wt.exe is the Microsoft Terminal program, which I have installed from the Microsoft Store.) The Target path had changed to: C:\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\wt.exe -p “Take Command” Created a new shortcut in a Start Menu folder and set the command line to the same, and it crashed the same. Created a new shortcut and set the command line to mspaint.exe (also a Windows Store app) and Explorer crashed on right-click on the shortcut. It appears PowerArchiver shell extensions doesn’t handle Windows Store apps in shortcuts properly. Perhaps it needs better defensive coding around checking the Target of shortcuts, or just ignoring shortcuts altogether. Running PA 22.00.11 on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.6584

    Affected by winrar/.rar vulnerability?

Was Power Archiver affected by the WinRAR/.rar vulnerability discovered by ESET researchers recently? Not sure if PA is using their libraries for extraction.

Ultimate zip was made by powerarchiver
    D davidsplash
From google search AI Overview Yes, that’s correct. UltimateZip was indeed a product of the same company that developed PowerArchiver, and it was essentially a rebranded version of PowerArchiver. It was discontinued and replaced by PowerArchiver.

    News/Update on PowerArchiver/Connexion in 2024
    TheAndyMacT TheAndyMac
Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).

Zip extraction from windows 11 by windows
    D davidsplash
Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 . The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg I know it has non standard quotes in it. However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip. Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it. Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver. When will a fix be implemented?

Hi, i used to be able to do this on the universities computer who had power archiver installed but not on my own computer at home and that is when ever i right click on a file i wish to compress at university it says compress to “Filename”.zip (this is what i want to do) at home when i right click it says compress to “Folder the file is in”.zip This is annoying as why would i want to call my new zip file the folder it is in. So how can i set it so when i right click it will compress to the nane of the file.

Also could i ask if you could make this a default setting on newer versions.

      Thank you
      Anthony

Windows Explorer right click menu choices are configured under “Options / Configuration / Shell Extensions”.

However, right-clicking on a single file (e.g. foobar.txt) in Windows Explorer does offer “Compress to foobar.zip” as default

If you right-click on a folder, that is when it offers “Foldername.zip”

I therefore assume you are right clicking after selecting multiple files and want to compress each one individually - if so, this is not possible (at least, not yet - it is probably one of the oldest things on the wishlist).

To compress multiple files individually, you should launch the “Tools/Batch Zip” utility from within PowerArchiver.

Yes you are right but what i am actually wanting to do is choose a bunch of files and put them in the one archive with the name of the file i have right clicked on.

So if i have three files (say two txt files and an exe file) i select them all but then on the last one (eg. the exe file) that i want the zip file to be called i right click on that last one and instead of giving me the name of that file to zip up with it usually says either Desktop.zip or New Folder.zip depending where those three files were located. I do not want this. So is it possible to change to this.

This used to work at university so im sure its possible

          Thanks

OK - with you so far
            @Anthony1uk:

… but then on the last one (eg. the exe file) that i want the zip file to be called i right click on that last one …

But here, you lost me

If I do that, then the other selected files are deselected, I am now only compressing the last file - so I am offered “filename.zip”.

If you meant shift-click (or ctrl-click) on the last one to select all the files - then it works as I said : “FolderName.Zip” for multiple files.

This used to work at university so im sure its possible

Not in windows explorer, maybe you were using the new archive/add to archive dialog within PowerArchiver when the zip file had already been named?

Thanks for all your help on this but i will show you what i am meaning i have uploaded a screen capture of my computer desktop as an AVI format, I have uploaded it to a you sendit file here to show you what happens when i try to right click zip something

              http://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=14F5PTNTIRBPR1JBOEGTPNUT8K

What i want to do is select a bunch of files, right click and have the zip archive to be the name of the file i right clicked on like i say it definitely used to work at university. It may have been a different zip program i was using at uni but i am sure it was power archiver, and if you say it works then i am assuming its just my computer acting up as if you say its possible but it does not seem to work for me.

The screen capture will show what happend.

Thank for all your help and patience on this.

Ahh, you are not using Windows Explorer ! You have files on the desktop and are “lassooing” them (Click and drag).

Just tried this, it seems that if you lasso shortcuts, then right click on one of them - only the target of one you rightclick on is compressed (so individual filename.zip is offered), but if you lasso actual files then all are compressed and it works the same way as I described in Windows Explorer (with the foldername being DeskTop.zip).

So, it actually works the same way as I decribed before.

Thanks but is there anyway that i could set it now or you could set in future releases that if i choose three objects and right click on one them the archive will be named what i right clicked on.

As to me it seems strange it would only give you the option to call it desktop.zip i mean why would anyone want to call their archive that?

Thanks for all your help though

Because that is the name of the directory/folder the files are in. If you saved them to
                    “C:\Program Files\This Is My Program”
Then the Zip would be named “This Is My Program.zip”

You could create a Folder on the desktop “This Is My Program”, move your files into it and then Zip that Folder :)

You could always make a request in the Forum Wishlist - however, I’m not sure how you think PowerArchiver would pick which of the filenames to use from the list provided by Windows Explorer or how users would be able to control it.
Choosing (and/or lassoing) and then right-clicking depends on Windows Explorer and not PowerArchiver. The filenames are then passed as a list to PowerArchiver via the context menu.

Usually, the order of files in the list is not important.
Maybe when CTRL-clicking explorer provides the list of files in “selection” order (last clicked is last in list)?
Don’t know what the order would be when “lassoing” though (alphabetical?).

                    P.S. I’m another user I don’t work for Conexware/Powerarchiver :D

Say you want to put aa.txt bb.doc and cc.exe into cc.zip.

Right click cc.exe and create cc.zip containing just cc.exe

Then select aa.txt and bb.doc and drop them on to cc.zip

cc.zip will now contain copies of all three files
